Chapter 494 – The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

Soon, the jet started, and Evan took Danika to the city. Howard wanted to say something, but in the end, he kept his mouth shut. He just followed along, keeping an eye on Danika to prevent her from doing anything unexpected. Danika didn’t mind and acted as if she hadn’t noticed.

After an hour of flying, they finally landed in the city of Duxdence in Monaerim, and Danika learned where she was through the airline announcement at long last.

Did You Notice Anything Strange Around Here?

The city wasn’t the most developed place in Monaerim, but it was not bad, just a bit chaotic.

After pondering it for a while, Danika realized that a chaotic place was more suited for someone of Evan’s status. What she needed to think about now was how to pass on the information that she was here. Unbeknownst to Danika, her worries were actually unnecessary because when Evan’s private jet landed at Duxdence Airport, Eustace had already received the news.

At that moment, opposite the airport, Eustace was looking through a telescope at the airport entrance. He saw Evan and his group walk out from the inside. Perhaps because this was his own turf, Evan wasn’t cautious and didn’t bother to take any precautionary measures to conceal themselves. Because of that, Eustace could clearly see their movements.

When he saw Danika, he noticed that she’d lost weight. He deduced that she must not be living well under Evan’s care, which made his heart ache. Evan and his group came out of the airport and got into the car parked at the entrance. Eustace and his men followed; he also sent people to install a positioning system on Evan’s private jet to help him locate their position accurately.

“Where do you want to go?” Evan asked Danika, who was sitting beside him, in a very gentle tone.

Danika glanced at the scenery outside the window. To be honest, she wasn’t interested in going anywhere, but she couldn’t say that. She needed to prolong her stay in the city as much as possible so that she could find an opportunity to leave messages for Gilbert, Zack, or Eustace. She knew they would definitely come looking for her.

“Let’s go have a look in the mall. I don’t have many clothes, after all.” The few sets of clothes she had were given to her by some women on the island. She’d gone there suddenly and didn’t have any clothes with her.

Hearing that, Evan felt a bit embarrassed. “Sorry. Let’s go to the mail.’

With that, the car headed toward a nearby mall. Soon, they arrived at the location, and Evan took Danika shopping. Whenever he saw something nice, he would buy it for Danika without any regard for the cost. Danika felt helpless about the situation. After a while, she found something she liked. When Evan was about to pay, she quickly said, “Let me try it on first. What if it doesn’t look good?”

“You look good in anything,” Evan replied.

Danika couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. This wasn’t shopping-he was basically clearing any existing stock the shops had to offer. At this rate, they would be done soon, and she wouldn’t be able to delay the trip any longer so that she could have an opportunity to send out a message.

Evan smiled and didn’t refuse. “Alright, go try it on.”

With his permission, Danika took the clothes and headed toward the fitting room.

After she went in, Evan’s smile disappeared. ‘Did you notice anything strange around here?”

“I haven’t noticed anything that seemed out of place,” Howard replied.

“Keep an eye out. Eustace and the rest won’t just give up like this,’ Evan instructed.

He knew that Danika had come to the city hoping to pass on a message to Eustace and the others, but he wasn’t worried. This was his turf, so he wasn’t afraid of Eustace.

Inside the fitting room, Danika called out, “Can someone help me with the zipper?’

A salesgirl went in to help her, and although Evan wasn’t happy about it, he didn’t say anything. He had his people all around, so he wasn’t worried about Danika escaping.

Inside the fitting room, Danika chatted with the salesgirl. Just as she was about to ask her for her phone so that she could use it to send out a message, Evan’s voice came from outside the door. “Are you done yet, Danika?”

Danika broke out in a cold sweat and quickly replied, “Almost.”

She was nervous because she hadn’t gotten the chance to message Eustace yet. If she missed this opportunity, who knew when she would get another chance again?

I’m Here

Just as she was feeling anxious, the salesgirl suddenly grabbed Danika’s hand and wrote a few words in her palm under her shocked gaze. When Danika came out of the fitting room, she had returned to normal.

However, those few words still flashed in her mind: “I’m here.”

“Eustace is here!’ Danika cheered internally.

For a moment, she was so surprised she wasn’t sure how to express her excited emotions. Unfortunately, she couldn’t exactly express herself at the moment. Not only that, she couldn’t show even a hint of abnormality.

“It’s stunning.” Evan’s words rang in her ear, snapping her out of her daze.

She then smiled at him and said, ‘Thank you.’

In the end, Evan bought that dress, along with the others he’d chosen for Danika, and sent them all to the island. The amount of clothing was enough for her to wear for many years. It seemed Evan had never thought carefully about how long Danika would stay on the island. To be more exact, he dared not think about it.

As they were done with their shopping, they went to a restaurant to eat. The air between them was strange. It wasn’t tense, as they didn’t hurl hurtful words or remarks at each other. But it wasn’t accurate to say that things were pleasant between them, either. Anyone could tell that they were not on the same page.

“How do you feel about this place, Danika?’ Evan asked, a little nervous, as he wanted Danika to like it there.

Danika ate her steak and smiled faintly. “It’s pretty good but very different from our home country in terms of customs and practices.”

“Really? Then…” Evan put down his knife and fork and became serious. “If I ask you to stay here from now on, will you?”

Danika didn’t want to broach this topic with him at first. After all, they were destined to not be able to come to an agreement. But since Evan brought it up, she had no choice but to make things clear to him.

“Sorry, I won’t. Maybe it doesn’t matter where you live, but it’s different for me. I prefer to live in Clusia because that’s my country.”

Evan smiled bitterly, not surprised by her answer. “I knew you wouldn’t agree.”

“Since you knew I wouldn’t, when do you intend to send me back?” Danika asked.

Their eyes met, and Evan was at a loss for words. ‘In a while more.”

Danika chuckled. Wasn’t that what he said before? She knew that Evan had no intention of sending her back to Clusia but was just dragging her along, hoping one day she’d choose to stay. Fortunately, she was prepared for this a long time ago, so she wasn’t disappointed. They didn’t continue with the topic and silently ate their steaks as if nothing had happened.

After dinner, the group got back on the private jet and returned to the island.

At the airport, Eustace watched the jet plane disappear into the distance and took out his tablet, which showed a small red dot moving away. He instructed someone to keep an eye on it and pinpoint the island’s exact location. If he couldn’t find a chance to take Danika away from the outside, he would have to hijack the jet plane. Of course, his ideal plan was to take her away while she was in the city, as the chances of success would be higher.

Back on the island, Olivia found out that Evan had taken Danika out shopping without inviting her, and she was going crazy in the castle.

“Evan!” Olivia saw the two of them return and rushed over angrily. “Why didn’t you invite me to go shopping?”

“Don’t you have something to do?” Evan replied coldly, keeping a distance from her and even shielding Danika behind him.

“If there’s something to do, I can leave it to someone else. It’s not like I have to deal with it personally,” Olivia retorted.

If she’d known that they were going shopping, she would have followed them no matter what.

I’m Not a Seductress Like Her

“Next time,” Evan replied hastily. He intentionally didn’t bring Olivia along. Evan knew exactly what Olivia was thinking, but unfortunately, he had no other intentions toward her. If it hadn’t been for the fact that Olivia had been working for him for many years, perhaps Evan would have already lost his patience with her.

Olivia pouted and then saw the bodyguards behind her carrying a lot of things. Her eyes lit up. “Did you buy these for me? Evan, you’re so nice!’

However, before she could approach the items, Evan ordered, “Put them in Danika’s room.”

Immediately, the bodyguards went upstairs with more than ten bags each, but not one was for Olivia. Following that, Olivia’s expression darkened considerably.

Howard quickly handed her the bag he was holding. “Boss didn’t forget about you. This is what he bought for you.”

In fact, it was Howard who reminded Evan about Olivia before leaving. Only then did Evan reluctantly agree to let him buy something for Olivia.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have even remembered that Olivia existed.

Olivia looked puzzled, but seeing that Evan didn’t deny it, she smiled and took the gift. Her mood soured when she saw that it was a set of skincare products. “Why do you always buy me this?”

Howard didn’t say anything, thinking to himself that they didn’t even know her size, so how could they buy her clothes? If he didn’t know what brand of skincare products she used, they probably wouldn’t know what to buy for her at all.

Evan ignored her and looked at Danika, who was behind him. “You must be tired from a day of shopping. Head back to your room and rest.”

“Okay. You should rest early too.” Danika nodded. She had long since lost interest in watching Olivia throw her tantrum. Evan and Danika went upstairs together and went back to their respective rooms.

After the two disappeared, the faint smile on Olivia’s face disappeared completely. She threw the things into Howard’s hands and asked, “You bought these for me again, didn’t you?”

“Absolutely not. The boss paid for it.” Although he was the one who swiped Evan’s card, it was indeed Evan who paid for it. In this regard, he didn’t deceive Olivia.

Seeing that Olivia wasn’t convinced, Howard repeatedly nodded to assure her. Finally, she took the bag and complained softly, “Why does Danika have so much, and I only have this little? Evan is really unfair.”

“Olivia, Danika is different from you. She’s someone special to Boss. You should know this,” Howard reminded her.

His kind reminder made Olivia even more unhappy. “Hmph! She’s indeed different from me. I’m not a seductress like her.”

Olivia thought that if she had even a tenth of Danika’s ability to seduce people, Evan wouldn’t ignore her completely.

“Boss isn’t interested in you. It has nothing to do with Danika.”

They all knew of Olivia’s feelings toward Evan, but they also knew that Evan wasn’t the least bit interested in her. Regardless of Danika’s existence, Evan wouldn’t consider her under any circumstances. They could see it clearly, but unfortunately, Olivia couldn’t.

“How can you say it isn’t because of her? If it weren’t for her, Evan would definitely like me!”

Howard was rendered speechless. He didn’t know where Olivia got her confidence.

“Wait and see. I won’t give up easily.” She looked at Danika’s room upstairs and didn’t believe that she, who had been by Evan’s side for so many years, would lose to a worthless woman who hadn’t lifted a finger since coming to the island.

In Olivia’s eyes, Danika was powerless and weak-someone she could easily crush.

You Bewitched Him Somehow!

Danika was upstairs in her room, completely unaware of what Olivia was planning-not that she cared anyway. She knew that she would be safe in this place as long as she had Evan’s protection. Even so, she didn’t plan to stay here for long and wanted to leave. She just didn’t know how to leave. Perhaps she could only wait for Eustace to come and rescue her.

Next door, in Evan’s study, Howard had just calmed Olivia down and was called into the study by Evan.

“Boss.” Howard pushed the door open and saw Evan sitting at his desk, seemingly worried about something.

Evan heard the sound and looked up at him. “Did you notice anything unusual on your way back today?”

“No,” Howard replied.
