Eustace sighed. He didn’t know what to do with her.
“Don’t worry, Danika.I won’t pick a fight if Evan doesn’t come looking for trouble.Eustace had to tolerate Evan.He saved Danika, after all.But only if the man didn’t start a fight.
“Alright,” Danika said, and nothing more.
She had no reason to let him leave.
Soon, the doorbell rang.
Evan appeared at the door.
When he saw that it was Eustace who opened the door, the smile on his face vanished.
“Why are you here?” he asked, frowning.
Eustace smiled and said, “I came to make her breakfast.I might have made you some if you said you were coming earlier.”
Eustace looked at the things that the person behind Evan was carrying. It was also breakfast of some sort.
Eustace wanted to smile but held it in for Danika’s sake.
“Thank you, Mr.Quincey, but I’ve already eaten.”
Evan’s face was cold.He moved past Eustace. His assistant pushed him into the apartment.
“Evan.”
Danika got up, inviting him in.
Evan glanced at the dining table.
Indeed, they were having breakfast before he arrived. He felt upset, but he was glad to have appeared in time.He didn’t want them to be alone for too long.
“Have you packed up your things, Danika?” Evan asked.
He glanced at Eustace.
As expected, Eustace didn’t look happy. Evan’s mood lifted. Danika did not notice that. She replied simply, “Yes.”
“Alright.Let’s leave after breakfast. We need to see if anything needs to be fixed in the villa.”
They didn’t know how long Danika would be there.
She could even be there forever.
Danika said nothing and nodded, but Eustace couldn’t bear to listen any longer. He went to the dining table and sat, saying in a mocking tone, “Do you really think it’s fair to Danika? Don’t you think it’s selfish?”
“Eustace…”
Danika wanted to stop him from saying unpleasant things, but Evan said, “I told Danika before that I wouldn’t force her to move if she didn’t want to.I’ll ask you again, Danika.Do you want to move? If you don’t, I’ll leave immediately and won’t hold this against you.I saved you voluntarily.I don’t care even that I’m wheelchair- bound.I don’t want you to be miserable.”
I Won’t Let You Succeed
He said it sincerely.
Danika’s eyes reddened as she listened.
But Eustace wanted to laugh.
Evan’s words sounded sweet, but he wouldn’t have said things like that if he didn’t want her to stay with him.
He was saying it only because he was sure that she would agree.
“You don’t have to say anymore, Evan.I’m taking care of you voluntarily,” Danika replied.
She wasn’t cold and ruthless.
Evan had sacrificed his life for her.
Couldn’t she take care of him? Eustace said that Evan was being selfish.
Danika felt that if she were to decline Evan, she’d be the selfish one.
Danika’s response was just as Eustace expected.
He glared at Evan coldly.
Why hadn’t he realized how sly this person was before? Eustace said nothing. He knew that he couldn’t change anything.
“Come eat breakfast, Danika,” Eustace said.
He ignored Evan altogether.
Danika murmured in response and looked at Evan.
“Have you eaten, Evan?”
“Yes, I have. You can go eat.”
Evan smiled at her.
He didn’t care if he suffered for a bit, as long as things escalated to the same outcome. He didn’t care about one-upping Eustace. He was just a loser.
So what if he felt upset on the inside? Just like that, Eustace and Danika ate breakfast together while Evan and his assistant waited for them.
It was weird, but no one dared to break the silence.
Not long after, breakfast was over, much to Eustace’s unwillingness.
Danika had to leave with Evan.
Before they left, Eustace leaned in toward Evan and said in a soft voice, “Don’t think that I don’t know what you’re playing at.I won’t let you succeed.”
“I don’t know what you’re saying, Mr.Quincey.”
Evan acted dumb, merely letting Howard follow him and Danika.
Who would care about Eustace? The elevator doors slid shut, and the two disappeared from Eustace’s sight.
Eustace felt like he had swallowed a ball of pain that had no way of being released. He kicked the wall hard, but that achieved nothing except the pain in his foot.He took his phone out and dialed Vincent’s number.
“Is that doctor here? Tell him to hurry up. I want to see him today.”
Eustace thought Evan was fine.He seriously doubted if Evan really needed to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
“By the way, find out where Evan’s villa is.I’m going to move in next door!”
He wanted to keep on observing Evan.He would not let him win.
Downstairs, Evan knew nothing of what Eustace was doing.
The car had already begun to move, heading toward the villa.
“By the way, Evan, this means you won’t have to go to the company, will you?” Danika asked.
Although she didn’t involve herself in Zellweger Inc’s matters, she was still the president. She could cover him somewhat.
Evan shook his head and said, “It’s okay.I still have to work.I’ll feel better if I do.Don’t worry, Danika.Just because you’re coming to take care of me doesn’t mean I’ll need your supervision every waking hour. You can still go to work like before. It’s just that if I see you every day, I’ll feel much better, and the pain won’t feel as bad anymore.”
He said it all very sincerely.
Danika couldn’t bear it.
“But it’ll be tiring if you go to work every day.”
“It’s okay.I’m fine with being physically exhausted, not mentally.”
Evan smiled.
Is That It?
When Danika heard that, she opened her mouth, yet was at a loss for words. She chose to remain silent.
Not long after, they reached Evan’s villa.
Howard helped her bring her things inside.
“Danika, go pick out a room that you like.”
There were many rooms in the villa.
Besides the master bedroom where he slept, every other room was empty.
“I’ll just stay in the room next to yours.=,” Danika said.
“It’ll be easier for me to care for you.”
“Alright.”
