“Do whatever you please,” Jeremy rasped. “I can’t speak much about other towns, but at least for Solana City, I’m in charge. No one will get in your way here.”
Alyssa frowned. Why did that sound so weird? It was like someone had flavored a floral perfume with old socks.
The atmosphere suddenly grew quiet. Neither spoke.
After some time, Jeremy said, “That’s all I wanted to tell you. Goodnight.”
“Hey!”
But Jeremy had already hung up.
“What the hell? Was he drunk or something?” Alyssa grumbled, shaking her head as she switched off her phone.
Meanwhile, Jeremy was just realizing how clammy his hands were. His throat was burning dry, and his heart pounded wildly against his ribs like a caged animal.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Let what is a bane of my mind today pass on before the next light. May that which frequents my heart unchecked, leave
Abigail remained in a state of coma after the car accident.
According to the doctor, she was near vegetative, with very little chance of reawakening. This came as wonderful news to Betty. She felt like Lady Luck was finally gracing her presence!
She couldn’t have anyone find out that she had persuaded Abigail to steal information from KS World
Hotel.
Still, Betty’s situation didn’t change for the better. Ada Kingsley insisted that she would only speak to Jeremy about working together. Apparently, her team was also scouting other hotels, too.
Betty went to visit Zoe at her place after lunch. She was panicking to no end. However, Zoe appeared calm and composed, quietly sipping her tea.
“What do you plan to do about Ada?”
“The only reason she chose KS World Hotel is because Alyssa fulfilled her condition of procuring one of the world’s top jewelry designers to help design for her wedding-all for that useless little brooch!
“My useless brother hasn’t been able to get Alexa onboard until today!” Betty cried, stomping her feet.
Zoe cocked her head. “All’s not lost.”
“What… What do you menn, Zoe?” Betty asked in shock. “Did you manage to find one of Alexa’s designs?”
“As far as I know, Alexa has never revealed herself to the public, always keeping a low profile. In fact, we don’t even know if she’s alive, and barely anyone has seen her actual products. So, why don’t you make a counterfeit one to give to Ada?”
“Y-You want me to give Ada Kingsley fake jewelry? I’d be ruined if someone found out!!” Betty gasped, eyes wide as plates.
“Tsk. How would anyone find out? You can’t even tell whether you’re bidding for a fake or genuine item during auctions, not to mention something as small as a bunch of shiny rocks. No one would be able to tell other than Alexa herself,” stated Zoe.
Then, Zoe leaned in and murmured, “Plus, I know a guy from Yoarkley. He’s a jewelry designer and was once Alexa’s disciple. I can have him make a counterfeit of Alexa’s jewelry for you. Then, you can pass it on to Ada. That way, she’ll definitely agree to work with you.”
Betty was still feeling hesitant about this plan. But honestly, she barely had a choice anymore. She gritted her teeth and chose to give it a go.
With Lyla’s birthday, Winston’s third wife, drawing near, Alyssa dedicated her nights to crafting a present In her room. It was a ring of pure gold, inlaid with natural aquamarine and diamonds.
Craftsmanship-wise, this was a piece of cake. Only the aquamarine heightened the cost of the ring. It was a true blue, straight-from-the-mine crystal that was still attached to its host rock when she got it.
Alyssa was always thorough and devoted when it came to the gifts she prepared for her loved ones.
She used to be the same toward Jeremy, too. Sadly, he never appreciated it.
Just then, a video call request appeared on her phone. It was Sliva Nunez, her assistant from her jewelry design firm.
“There are very few reasons why you would call me at this hour,” Alyssa said while polishing the crystal.
Dow you remember Tyson Nolan?” Sliva asked.
“Yeah. Why? He apprenticed under me for three years before starting a jewelry line of his own. He’s a pretty gifted student.”
“You won’t believe what happened. Someone contacted him asking to make a mimic of your jewelry design a couple of days ago.
“Isn’t that outrageous? You might want to consider showing yourself in public again, Alexa, before counterfeits start filling the market!”
Alyssa laughed leisurely. “No reason to get worked up. It shows how irreplaceable I am. They couldn’t find me, so they had to counterfeit my work to satisfy their egos. No one else’s work sufficed.”
“Tyson came to tell me this first thing after he failed to get in touch with you. He doesn’t want to take the job at all, saying it was an insult to your name, craft, and his loyalty to you, his teacher!”
Alyssa was impressed.
Alyssa asked curiously, “Who is this person who’s commissioning the fake if you don’t mind me asking?
They must be truly influential to be able to find my disciple.
“I’m not sure how they got to know him, but he says they’re a Cyrrian from Solana City. A woman. The rich heiress kind, with the last name Harper.
Alyssa was caught off guard.
“Oh, she’s also that pianist, Christina Hammond’s student,” Sliva added.
Alyssa smirked when she realized what was going on.
As they continued to push the boundaries of her tolerance, Alyssa had no reservations about not holding back.
“Tell Tyler to proceed with the commission, Sliva. He has my permission,” Alyssa said slyly
“What? Why?”
“Tell him to give it his all, and don’t make me look bad.”
Five days later, Jeremy received word of alarming news after his staff meeting.
Ada Kingsley bod
Ada Kingsley had agreed to work with Berenike Hotel.
“What is this?” Jeremy asked sternly as he gazed out of his office windows.
Xavier said, “I heard Ms. Betty got her hands on one of Alexa’s designs and gave it to Ada. That’s why she has agreed to work with us!”
Jeremy sneered. “It’s definitely a counterfeit.”
“That… I can’t be so sure. Shouldn’t Ms. Kingsley be able to identify a genuine product from a fake one? Xavier felt dejected.
He went on, saying. “If they sign the contract, the hotel will fall into Betty and that witch’s clutches. What if they exploit the situation and begin to oppress us?”
“Alyssa should have heard the news by now,” Jeremy murmured to himself.
Betty was a far more taxing opponent than Alyssa was. But that was the least of his concerns right now.
Xavier sighed. “Madam hasn’t been taking much action these days. She might have given up for all we know.”
“Give up? Like hell, Jeremy said slowly. “Alyssa would never give up so easily. She’s very likely biding her time right now. I’m sure she’s already plotting her next move if she hasn’t already.”
Betty Walsh’s intelligence paled in comparison to his beloved wife’s.
As soon as he thought that, he realized his mistake. She was now his ex-wife.
Jeremy winced as his heart ached.
That night, the Walsh family got together for their monthly dinner with Newton.
The atmosphere appeared cheerful and merry; even Betty helped serve her sister food and drink every now and then. It was as if they shared a close bond.
Lauren stayed silent beside Jeremy, not uttering a word since the beginning of the evening.
Though she remained quiet, her determination was evident-every morsel of food Betty gave her was discreetly pushed to the side of the plate.
Javier set his silverware down. “Dad, Sophia and I have something important in the works. We’d like to seek your opinion on it now that we’ve taken the time to consider it.”
“Why? If you two have decided, then there is no point in coming to me for approval.” Newton tucked into some corn.
