As Callum carried me out of the ballroom, I saw the crowd’s surprised eyes. The faces of my father and Nicole blurred in my vision. I lay in Callum’s arms. His strong arms wrapped around me, and the smell of liquor around me made me hold my breath a little to keep my head from spinning. I could see his broad chin and high nose bridge. His golden eyes were not looking at me. Instead, he held me tightly with his hands, and I realized that I was shivering slightly in his arms.
I turned over his shoulder, and as the ballroom and the manor grew blurred in view, I suddenly felt something clearly slipping away from my life. My happy childhood, my miserable youth, my mother’s tears, my father’s neglect, Nicole’s arrogance. They all left me at this moment, so clearly.
I let out a long sigh of belated delight, as if I had unburdened myself of some invisible burden. I don’t have to worry about Nick harassing me or the rumors in the pack. I put my hand on Callum’s hand. Callum finally looked down at me. He narrowed his eyes and asked me calmly, “Do you regret it?”
I clung to his finger. His hands were cold and hard, and they had the touch of marble in the rain.
I shook my head firmly and gave him a genuine smile as he looked at me. “I’m glad I could get away, thank you.”
He didn’t speak. There was something in his eyes that I didn’t understand. He rubbed my huddled body in his arms like I was a wet cat.
“I hope you don’t regret it.” The rain gradually became heavier. He put on the hood on his cape. I could not see his expression clearly. “But even if you regret it, I will not let you off.”
My ears caught the phrase in the passing wind, as if it were an auditory hallucination.
Callum took me into the carriage. I was so tired that everything that happened today was quickly replayed in my mind. Finally, in a daze, I closed my eyes completely.
A smell of food seduced my nose, and I felt a slight spasm in my stomach before I knew it. My stomach felt like a wrung-out washcloth, eagerly awaiting the moisture of food. So, before I open my eyes and am half asleep, my head is moving from side to side with the smell I’m smelling, but damn it, why is it getting further away from me?
When I frowned and opened my eyes, I heard a low laugh.
My head was pinned down by a pair of big hands. The smell of the food stopped wafting, and I subconsciously opened my mouth slightly when I touched something soft at the edge of my mouth. Then a teasing voice sounded in my ear: “Still not awake? Do you want me to feed you?”
I opened my eyes abruptly, and a handsome face crashed into my line of sight. His golden eyes looked up at me, his bushy eyebrows raised, and I realized that I was still in his arms, and that I had slept in his arms.
Moon goddess, what have I done!
My body stiffened with shame, but then I noticed that he was holding a small plate in his left hand. On the plate were small slices of bread and butter. In the light of the carriage, it gave off a mouth-watering smell. Then I heard a rumble in my stomach that could be heard throughout the carriage.
Well, I know where the smell I just smelled in my dream came from. As for the movement of the smell, it was the mischief of His Highness.
Thinking of this, I felt that I had no face to lose in front of His Highness. So, with a blank expression on my face, I said expressionlessly, “Thank you, Your Highness, but I think I can still eat by myself.”
My body went weak and I struggled to find a seat in the farthest corner of the carriage from Callum.
Callum stared at me from the moment I thanked him until I sat down in the corner, out of his arms. I tried not to make eye contact with him, but I could still feel the heat of that line of sight.
He handed me a plate of buttered bread with a small, delicate golden fork sticking out of it. I try to eat gracefully. I don’t think the prince has ever come in contact with a werewolf like me. I can’t be rude. But unfortunately, my stomach does not allow me to be an elegant girl. I eat faster and faster.
After I had eaten five plates of bread and butter in a row, I finally remembered that there was a prince sitting before me.
“They won’t let you eat?” Callum finally asked me when I finally put down my plate.
I looked up at the prince’s complicated expression and silently shook my head. I was discriminated against in the pack, but I was still alpha’s daughter, and they wouldn’t let me go without food. But most of the time, I eat scraps. I haven’t tasted this kind of fresh food for a long time, and everything that happened today made my body consume too much.
He looked like he wanted to say something more, but a knock on the door interrupted him.
A gentle face appeared in the glass of the carriage.
“Come in.” Callum’s voice grew serious.
The door was pushed open and a werewolf with blue eyes stood outside.
“Your Highness, we have been traveling all night. We have already left the territory of the Red Moon Pack. We hope to rest for half a day and travel after lunch.”
“Yes, be careful of the vampires and the watch and don’t disturb me,” Callum said with a faint dignity in his cold voice.
“Yes, Your Highness.” The blue-eyed werewolf retreated, and I felt him cast a curious glance at me before he left.
“Your clothes don’t match your face,” Callum said to me after a moment of silence.
I silently clutched the hem of my dress, the rough fabric sliding in my hand. This is the dress I took from the maid’s room. Of course it’s not pretty. I thought of the gorgeous party and Nicole’s beautiful gold fishtail dress, and an indescribable sadness made me bow my head.
“Change it, you’re not part of the Red Moon Pack anymore,” Callum ordered me.
“But, your highness, I don’t have any other clothes.” When he took me away, I was only wearing a worn servant’s uniform. The royal family didn’t give me time to say goodbye to anyone. They were efficient and cold, like vultures that scatter after a fight for meat.
I don’t know what Callum is thinking, but I don’t think his face will look good.
“Knock, knock,” Callum said, tapping his long, handsome fingers on the glass of the carriage door.
Immediately, the face appeared outside the glass.
“What can I do for You, Your Highness?”
“Alen, fetch me a lady’s dress. I remember there are ladies’ clothes in royal luggage. If you don’t have one in her size, go and buy one.” Callum raised his chin and pointed to me.
“Yes, Your Highness.”
A moment later, Callum took a long dress from outside the carriage and handed it to me. He got out of the carriage and stood outside with his back to me. His tall back gave me a silent sense of security.
“Change.” He turned his head and looked at me with his golden eyes.
“Yes, Your Highness.” I was holding my clothes, and for some reason I got stuck in front of him.
It was a long white one-shouldered dress with exaggerated puffy sleeves and a tight waist. I took off my rough servant’s clothes and put on this beautiful silk dress. But awkwardly, I found that the belt-tightening design at the back made it impossible for me to wear it.
Damn it, I tried to stretch my arm out to reach the ribbon on my back, but I couldn’t get it to work, and my face turned red, but the slimy ribbon kept slipping out of my hand. I felt like a cat caught in a ball of yarn.
“Your… Your Highness?” I had to lie prone on the glass, quietly tapping with his fingers, hoping that the figure could turn around.
“Aren’t you dressed yet?” Callum turns around and looks at me.
I blushed and turned slightly to show him the ribbon that had slipped behind me. “Can you help me?”
I heard the carriage doors opening and closing, and the smell of Callum approaching.
“Turn around.” I heard his low, rough voice.
I tried to straighten my back, but the heat of his fingers against my skin made me shiver uncontrollably, and I could feel his fingers moving. Every touch he made was like a feather brushing against my skin. The laces at the back of my dress were tightening, and his breath floated down the back of my neck. My skin was pale pink with sensitivity. I don’t understand why my heart beats out of order every time I get close to him.
“Turn around,” he said, holding my waist in his hands so I could face him.
The sunlight outside the glass window shone on his deep eyebrows, and the high brow bones cast a faint shadow on his eyes. There was a flicker of gold floating in his eyes, and his cold expression made me wonder what he was thinking. The carriage was filled with his smell, and I sat in front of him like a doll he’d been playing with.
“It’s not perfect,” he said, looking at me.
Then he took something out of his pocket. It was the pearl necklace my mother left me, which Nicole had taken from me.
“Put it on. It’s yours.” He handed me the necklace, and the pearls glowed in the sun.
Moon goddess, you must have heard my prayers? Mother, did you bless your child in heaven? The surprise made me unable to control myself. My eyes began to become wet. “Your Highness, do you mean this belongs to me?”
I stared at his face, eager for an answer.
