Filed to story: I Got Married Without You
“Jayden, be careful with your words.””
Her implication was for Jayden to quickly apologize to Mr. Evans, but Jayden pretended not to understand, clenched his fists, and gritted his teeth in defiance against Andrew.
“I heard that Ryan and Rosalyn were inseparable childhood sweethearts. They were a loving couple before they met you. So why did Rosalyn marry you?”
“Jayden, you don’t know the whole story, so don’t speak recklessly!”
Stella seemed to be angered. She went from a reminder to a warning, using her position as the hospital director to warn Jayden not to openly provoke Mr. Evans anymore!
Only then did Jayden look up, and when he saw Andrew’ icy eyes, he seemed to realize that he shouldn’t have said the latter part of his sentence. But the words were already spoken and couldn’t be taken back.
“I did indeed take Rosalyn away from him.”
Just when Jayden thought Andrew would slap him or kick him in anger, he suddenly spoke up and calmly replied with that sentence.
It was precisely this sentence that made Jayden breathe a sigh of relief and gave him even more confidence to retaliate against Andrew. “So you and I are the same kind of person.”
Andrew sneered, the curve of his lips filled with contempt.
“I’m different from you. I strive openly and honestly, not resorting to underhanded tactics behind closed doors.”
After Andrew finished speaking, he slightly lowered his head and arrogantly looked down upon Jayden, who was shorter than him.
“I know you’re feeling resentful, thinking that if you had the same background as me, taking Eva away would be as easy as taking candy from a baby. But you’ll never understand that some people, even with their background, may not be able to win. Just so you know, Eva and my wife are of the same kind.”
His words were profound, and Jayden didn’t understand, but Stella did. Eva values character more than anything else.
Once she sees Jayden’s true nature, she will completely leave him. Even if he manages to snatch her temporarily, what does it matter? In the end, Eva will make the right choice based on her true feelings.
Jayden didn’t reply and seemed to be thinking about how to respond. Lost in thought, Andrew took another step forward, exerting pressure on Jayden. “Jayden, do you feel inferior to Paul in your heart?”
The man’s cold and indifferent voice slowly entered Jayden’s ears:
“Do you know why that is?”
Jayden heard this and clenched his fist again.
At first, he didn’t think there was a gap between him and Paul. During the trip to the capital, when Paul bullied Eva, he deliberately provoked Paul by pulling Eva along. Paul had a group of friends who helped him, even when they were taken to the police station, he had friends to help him out, but he couldn’t find a lawyer anywhere.
Anthony’s words, about how with Jayden’s background, he couldn’t compete with the Evans Family, immediately planted a seed of doubt in Jayden’s mind. He still hasn’t completely gotten rid of it, and he even feels more and more inferior to Paul. This invisible sense of inferiority makes him lack confidence in front of Eva.
Similarly, he can feel that Eva still has feelings for Paul, but she’s afraid of getting hurt by being with him, so she settles for him instead.
Of course, before Eva started dating him, she made it clear that she was just using him to spite Paul, and that he said he didn’t mind. But over time, he started to mind in the face of his own inferiority… There’s no way around it, human nature is so fickle, but…
Did he do something wrong?
Jayden firmly believes that he didn’t do anything wrong, and confronts Andrew with his head held high.
“I don’t have the wealth and background like him, nor do I have a brother who can settle everything. Naturally, I can’t compare.”
Andrew smirks and chuckles.
“Besides that, Paul doesn’t need any tricks to gain Eva’s sympathy.”
He says this while looking at Jayden’s bandaged hand.
Jayden didn’t expect that his imitation of Paul’s car accident would also be seen through by Andrew, leaving him with nowhere to hide.
In just a few words, Andrew sees through his thoughts.
When he feels extremely embarrassed, Andrew’s disdainful voice resonates in his ears.
“The biggest difference between Paul and you is that he doesn’t bother to use tricks to compete with you for Eva. Otherwise, you wouldn’t stand a chance against him.” This statement is quite condescending and makes Jayden feel uncomfortable.
It’s like a thorn piercing his heart, stirring up the depths of his soul.
He knows very well that even if Paul is a playboy, he lives openly and carefree.
As for himself, he can only rely on tricks to get what he wants.
“Is there something wrong with that?”
“You’re not wrong, but even if Paul was replaced with you, he wouldn’t do such things.”
The biggest difference is your nature.
It can be said that Paul is at fault for being a playboy, or for pursuing Eva, but in the face of Jayden’s despicable tactics, he is not at fault.
Jayden’s heart raced, and his lowered eyes betrayed his guilt.
He couldn’t even meet Andrew’ gaze because there were no secrets in front of him.
But Jayden, stubborn as ever, tried to negotiate with Andrew with words, as if it would help him regain his dignity.
“Paul is your cousin, so naturally you’ll side with him.”
“Of course.”
Andrew didn’t shy away at all, directly admitting it, which caught Jayden off guard.
Just as he was about to reprimand him with “birds of a feather,” Andrew impatiently interrupted him.
“Jayden, two choices: either apologize to Paul in person, or leave this hospital.”
It was only because of Eva’s reputation that Andrew came up with this solution.
Likewise, if it weren’t for Eva being Rosalyn’s good friend, Andrew probably wouldn’t even bother saying a word to Jayden.
Apologizing to Paul was impossible, leaving the hospital…
Jayden glanced at Stella, who signaled him to choose the former, triggering a subconscious resistance in Jayden.
“Eva has already apologized to Paul on my behalf.”
Upon hearing this, Andrew looked down even more on Jayden.
“You dare to let a woman clean up the mess you made? The mistakes you made yourself?”
