Thinking of that, she carefully kept the note and hid it in her clothes.

You Seem Excited

She’d just finished tucking the note away when she heard the sound of Evan coming down the stairs outside the door. Danika composed herself, opened the door, and walked toward him.

“Up so early?” Evan was a little surprised to see her come out of her room.

“Didn’t you tell me to wake up early?” Danika asked in reply, suppressing her feelings of anticipation.

Evan smiled and led her to the dining table. “There’s no need to wake up so early. You can sleep a little longer if you want.”

“No, I’m not very sleepy.” Danika refused. She was afraid that Evan would suddenly change his mind and decide not to take her out.

“You seem excited to go.” Evan handed her a sandwich and remarked casually.

Danika nodded and didn’t deny it. “I’ve been staying on this island day after day. I feel like I’m becoming isolated from the world. Of course, I’m excited to go out.”

Evan opened his mouth, wanting to apologize, but immediately realized that his apology was meaningless and could only serve to comfort himself.

They quickly finished breakfast, and Evan took Danika onto the private jet. It was her second time going out, so Danika was much more at ease than the first.

After arriving at Duxdence, Evan had to attend to some business, but he didn’t trust Danika enough to let her wander alone, so he asked Howard to follow her. Danika was well aware that he wasn’t concerned about her safety, but rather, he was afraid she would run away.

She didn’t object because she knew it would be useless and would only make Evan unhappy. If he sent her back before they even got to leave the airport, she would lose all chances of contacting Eustace.

After Evan left, Howard stood next to Danika in a somewhat displeased mood. “Where do you want to go?”

“To the mall. The one we went to last time was pretty good. Let’s go see if there are any new arrivals.” Danika smiled and walked out of the airport.

Just like last time, as soon as Evan’s private jet landed at Duxdence airport, Eustace got wind of it immediately. Therefore, when he saw Danika walk into the same mall and then into the same store as before, he knew that she must have something to say to him.

After Danika left, he quickly found the salesgirl and secured the note she’d written. Having read the contents of the note, he paid the salesgirl a large sum of money before leaving contentedly.

He wasn’t worried about Evan investigating the girl. After all, she was a local and had lived there for decades without any issues. The only thing she lacked was money, and Eustace just happened to not lack money.

Danika wandered around the mall. She bought some clothes as evidence of her shopping, but she didn’t buy many. Finally, she had lunch at the mall and left reluctantly.

Nevertheless, she wasn’t sent back to the island right away but was taken by Howard to

Evan’s workplace. As Evan had said, he had now established a company, and it looked quite impressive. If it weren’t for Danika knowing what kind of business he was doing in private, she would probably believe he’d truly turned over a new leaf.

“You’re done shopping?” Evan looked at Danika, who was sitting on the sofa, and felt a little helpless. He could tell that her enthusiasm was nowhere near as high as when she had come out in the morning.

Danika nodded and leaned back on the sofa. ‘Yeah, there wasn’t much to see. The clothes were the same, and there weren’t many nice ones.”

“Well, when we have time, I’ll take you to Luedross. It’s livelier over there.” Evan smiled as he looked at her. After all, Danika had only recently come there, so it was normal for her if she felt like a fish out of water.

Danika responded with a cursory “okay” but didn’t really take it to heart.

You’re Thinking Too Much

She stayed in Evan’s office the whole afternoon until they took the private jet back to the island in the evening.

“Do you travel back and forth like this every day in the past?” Danika couldn’t help but ask. Although the flight only took an hour, she still found it troublesome.

“No, I was mostly in the city of Duxdence. I only come back here occasionally,” Evan answered. But now it was different. He couldn’t leave Danika to stay in Duxdence alone, but he also didn’t want to be away from her for several days, so he had to travel every day.

When Danika heard him say that, she knew what he meant. “Actually, you don’t have to travel to and fro like this every day. I won’t run away.”

“Are you showing concern for me?” Evan smiled, secretly happy that Danika cared about him.

Danika was speechless. Although she felt annoyed, she didn’t say anything.” I just don’t think it’s necessary,” she finally said.

“It’s necessary for me.’ Seeing Danika every day was something he’d been dreaming of.

Danika had nothing to say to that and remained silent. The jet plane landed quickly, and the two of them walked straight to the castle and returned to their respective rooms.

After returning to his room, Evan asked Howard, “Where did she go today?”

Howard reported where she’d been and asked in confusion, “Boss, what are you worried about?’

“It’s nothing. I’m just a little worried.” Although he couldn’t sense anything amiss right now, he just had a feeling that Danika wasn’t the kind of person who gave up easily.

If she were to get angry with him, scold him, or even leave him, Evan could accept it, and he was even prepared for it. But Danika was too calm throughout this whole time, and that made him feel a little uneasy.

“You’re thinking too much. Maybe Miss Zellweger has figured things out and thinks that you’re not too bad,” Howard comforted him.

Howard thought the world of Evan. In his opinion, women like Danika, who didn’t know what was good for them, deserved death for their ignorance.

“Go get some rest.” Evan nodded and waved him off. He also hoped that he was thinking too much and that Danika had truly decided to stay.

Another three days passed by calmly, but Danika felt increasingly anxious. Why hadn’t Olivia given her any updates yet? Could she really pull it off?

If Olivia couldn’t get her off the island, Danika had to quickly think of another plan. She couldn’t just keep waiting like this. Just when she was stressing about it, Olivia pushed open her door.

“Evan won’t be back until very late tomorrow, and he won’t be leaving the island for a long time after that. So, tomorrow is your only chance.”

Upon learning about that, Danika felt helpless as she thought, “If I fail tomorrow, then I won’t get another chance to escape for a long time.”

However, she didn’t say it out loud. She nodded and asked, “How are you going to get me off the island?”

“Tomorrow, I’ll put you in a box and send you away on a supply ship. After it docks, you’ll have to figure it out on your own.’ Olivia had already done enough by helping Danika get to Duxdence. She didn’t arrange anything else for Danika after that.

Danika wasn’t worried, as she’d already contacted Eustace in advance. As long as she could reach Duxdence, Eustace would be able to find her.

“Okay.” Danika nodded and agreed. No matter what, tomorrow was her only chance. Even though she knew that Olivia wasn’t a good person, Danika had to take the gamble.

Seeing that Danika had agreed, Olivia breathed a sigh of relief. ‘Rest well and prepare yourself. I don’t want you to fail tomorrow.’

In any case, she had to get Danika off the island. Only if she died outside could Olivia escape any suspicion. If she died on the island, Evan would definitely think it was related to her.

No Turning Back

Despite Olivia telling her to rest well, Danika couldn’t sleep all night. She was very worried and afraid that something unexpected might happen. As Olivia had said, that was her last chance in the near future. If Danika missed the opportunity, she didn’t know how long she would have to stay in that place.

The next morning, when Evan’s footsteps faded into the distance, Danika immediately sat up from bed. He was going out, just as Olivia had told her.

As the private jet took off, Danika’s nervous mood finally relaxed a little. She was at least one step closer to success. Soon, there was a knock on the door. Upon opening it, there stood Olivia.

“Don’t waste time. Let’s go!” Olivia whispered. She didn’t have time to waste with her. Although she was happy to see Danika leave, betraying Evan also agonized her.

Danika followed Olivia. She then hid in what Olivia called a large box. At least at that moment, she was handing her life to Olivia. It wasn’t that she trusted her to that extent, but their current goals happened to be the same at the time.

In no time at all, Danika could feel the box being lifted off the ground. She heard someone outside the box ask, “Olivia, what’s this?”

“How dare you ask me what’s in there? My personal items are in there, alright? Do I have to give you a list of my stuff?” Olivia chastised impatiently and unkindly.

The person dared not speak again. After all, everyone on the island knew that Olivia and Howard were the two people Evan trusted the most. They wouldn’t do anything that would bring harm to Evan.

Danika boarded the ship successfully in the box and breathed a sigh of relief.

As the ship started moving, Danika knew she was gradually drifting away from the island. She was excited but also nervous. She didn’t even know if Eustace had received the message or whether he was even there. Everything was just based on her guesswork.

But now, even if it was just a shot in the dark, she had no way of turning back.

The ship sailed for about three or four hours and finally stopped. Danika, who had been half asleep in the box, suddenly felt unbelievably nervous.

Soon, someone lifted the box she was in off the ship and said, ‘This is Olivia’s.”

Another group of people took over and carried her away. They didn’t walk far before they put the box down in a corner and opened it. The sudden brightness made Danika uncomfortable after being in the dark for so long. She didn’t act rashly because those people were all armed.

Sure enough, once her eyes adjusted to the light after she opened them, she saw the gun in the person’s hand pointed at her forehead. “Where’s the check?”

It seemed Olivia had never intended to let her take the money. When she gave her the check, she planned to take it back.

“So, Olivia is someone who doesn’t keep her word, huh?’ Danika tried hard to stay calm and buy herself as much time as possible.

The person sneered at her condescendingly, “Who do you think you are to deserve Olivia’s promise?”

Danika pursed her lips. “I can give you the check, but you have to prepare a car for me.”

“I’m afraid you haven’t figured out the situation yet, Miss. Who said we only want money?” The person laughed, and his two followers laughed too.

Danika wasn’t surprised by that. She anticipated that Olivia had no intention of letting her leave alive. Her men didn’t take action on the island because Evan would easily suspect her. They waited until she left the island, and they could make their move in Duxdence. Even if her body was found afterward, they could say that she escaped and was killed by someone else.

What a cunning plan!

Unfortunately, Danika wasn’t a fool either.

“It seems that I won’t survive.” Danika sighed helplessly with a hint of grievance.

The men didn’t take her seriously, and it never crossed their minds that Danika would resist. To be more precise, Danika was a weak and powerless woman in their eyes.

Absolute Silence

When Danika decided to fight back, she didn’t know what the outcome would be. She was left with no choice. After all, it was unlike her to silently wait for death to befall her. However, before she could even touch the person in front of her, the man suddenly fell with a gunshot to the head. His two subordinates soon dropped to the ground in the same way too.

To her surprise, Danika turned around and saw Eustace walking toward her. She had to admit that Eustace looked like a god who had descended from heaven at that moment. His handsomeness was further amplified by his heroic deed of coming to her rescue in the nick of time.
