Chapter 485 – The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

Since Evan couldn’t beat him, he had to bring him to the hospital no matter what he said.

After struggling to drag the person to the stairs, when Eustace was about to continue dragging him down, Evan suddenly laughed.

It stunned Eustace, who was busy dragging him across the floor. Puzzled, he commented, “You really are something else. How can you manage to laugh in this situation?”

“Eustace, did you know why I called you here?” Evan looked at him calmly, without any sign of panic.

Eustace knew Evan had something up his sleeve, but he couldn’t figure out what it was. Hence, he didn’t dwell on it too long. “No matter what you’re up to, you must go to the hospital with me today!’ he said and began to drag him downstairs.

After two steps down, Evan suddenly grabbed his hand, asking, “Eustace, what would Danika think of you if I fell from here?”

It caught Eustace by surprise. Before he could recover, Evan attacked him without warning. Due to the pain, Eustace instinctively released Evan, which sent the man falling down the stairs.

The truth was, Evan could have stood without Eustace’s help. However, he chose not to, planning to fall down the stairs.

Hearing the loud noise, Howard appeared before Eustace. “Boss!” he cried out, eyes red with tears. He ran over to pick Evan up, ready to leave.

However, Eustace stopped them. “No one is taking him away today.”

Since things had already escalated to this point, even if he knew that Evan was plotting against him, he wouldn’t yield. He had to bring Evan to the hospital for a full body checkup. There was no way he would let Howard take him away.

“Mr. Quincey! Are you trying to secretly kill him while Miss Zellweger is not here?” Howard asked.

With a stoic expression on his face, Eustace replied, “If you don’t want anything to happen to him, come with me!” He wouldn’t let Howard take Evan away, as he wanted Evan to be sent to a hospital that he trusted. Who knew which hospital Howard would take him to?

“Don’t cross the line!” Howard shouted in anger.

If Eustace paid a little more attention, he would have realized that Howard was not in a hurry. Just as the two were at a standstill, Howard caught a glimpse of a figure at the door and suddenly raised his voice, “Mr. Quincey, how could you do this to him? Just because his presence affects your relationship with Miss Zellweger doesn’t mean you can push him down the stairs!”

Eustace frowned, failing to understand Howard’s sudden burst of anger. Just then, there was some movement at the door, and Danika appeared, which cleared up Eustace’s confusion.

“What’s going on?” Danika asked as soon as she entered the house. Eustace’s back was facing her, and as she walked closer, she realized that Howard was carrying an unconscious Evan.

All That Trouble

Danika hurried toward Howard and looked at the unconscious Evan.

Confused, she asked, “What happened to Evan?” “Eustace pushed him from the top of the stairs!” Howard answered, looking at Eustace directly.

Eustace was exasperated but managed to speak before Danika could say anything. “I’m taking him to the hospital.”

“No thanks! I don’t trust you,” Howard said, refusing his offer. Turning to Danika, he asked, “Miss Zellweger, can you please take us to the hospital?”

“What are you waiting for? Let’s go!” Danika answered anxiously. Evan was already unconscious, yet they were busy arguing.

Danika led Howard out of the villa, and Eustace followed behind them. “Which hospital are you taking him to?”

“Bardoff Hospital, of course! It’s the closest hospital.” After all, Danika worked there.

Eustace frowned as realization struck him. “No! Let’s go to another hospital.”

“Are you trying to kill him?” Howard would not allow Eustace to take Evan to another hospital. They had their people stationed at Bardoff Hospital. Hence, Evan had to be sent there, or their plan would fail.

Upset, Danika rushed to open the car door. “Eustace, don’t waste our time!”

“Danika…” Looking at Danika, Eustace wanted to tell her how Evan had orchestrated everything, but he knew it would be pointless-Danika wouldn’t believe him.

Danika took Howard and Evan away, leaving Eustace behind. He was angry but had no way of venting his frustration. “Evan! You really went through all that trouble just to do this!”

He had figured out that Evan had called him over to trick him, but he would not let him succeed. With that thought in mind, Eustace left. He didn’t forget that he still had Evan’s man in his hands, and as long as he made him confess everything, Eustace would have all the evidence he needed.

At the hospital, Evan was sent to the emergency room, where Danika and Howard waited anxiously at the door.

“What’s going on?” Finally, Danika had time to ask for details. She believed that Eustace wouldn’t push Evan down the stairs. Surely, there was another reason.

With a solemn expression, Howard answered, “He told me he regretted not letting Dr. Gaarder examine his injuries. In fact, he wanted to make a speedy recovery, but because he had no confidence, he was afraid to hear something that would make him even more desperate and discouraged, so he refused Dr. Gaarder’s examination. However, he’d been thinking it through for the past few days and told me to bring Eustace over. He wanted his help to make an appointment with Dr. Gaarder. I don’t know what they were talking about in the study. When I saw them, Eustace was dragging him out of the study. Then they argued in the corridor, and Eustace pushed him down the stairs.” He didn’t elaborate further, as Danika knew what happened after.

Danika was in a low mood as she knew it was out of character for Eustace to attack Evan.

As if afraid that Danika wouldn’t believe him, Howard continued, “Actually, he’s pretty strong. If it weren’t for his current condition, Eustace might not have been able to take him down.”

In other words, Evan couldn’t defend himself from Eustace because he had saved her. Danika felt guilty. She had come to take care of Evan, but not only did she not take care of him well, she had also worsened his condition.

He Planned Everything

An hour later, the lights in the emergency room turned off, and a doctor walked out of the room.

“The patient’s life is not in danger, but the condition of his lower limbs is more severe than before,” the doctor announced solemnly.

Upon hearing that, Danika felt uneasy. “Is there still a chance for recovery?” she asked.

Glancing at her, the doctor didn’t give a clear answer. “It’s hard to say. It’s not very likely right now, but it’s not impossible. Miracles can happen in this world.”

Danika didn’t ask further, knowing the possibility of a miracle happening was slim.

Evan was transferred to a hospital ward and woke up shortly after. When he saw Danika, he smiled at her. “I’m sorry, Danika, for making you worry.”

“Evan, I’m sorry,” Danika apologized, unable to meet his eyes. If it weren’t for her, Evan would have been able to resist Eustace. If it weren’t for her, Eustace wouldn’t have deliberately made things difficult for him, and this wouldn’t have happened.

Seeing her feeling so upset, Evan also felt uncomfortable. He wanted to reach out and touch Danika’s head, but he couldn’t lift his hand due to the effects of the anesthesia. Although his injury was fake, he did sustain some injuries from falling down the stairs, just not as serious as they had thought.

“Danika, it’s not your fault. You don’t have to apologize.” Evan smiled and shook his head, not wanting Danika to blame herself too much.

Evan had his worries before executing his plan. If Danika found out the truth one day, how would she look at him? Would she hate him?

Thinking of that, he felt a little scared, but he wanted to have Danika so badly that he continued with his plan despite his fears. Fortunately, he would be leaving this place soon.

Danika stayed at the hospital all night to take care of Evan. It wasn’t until dawn the next day that she returned to Evan’s place to get some clean clothes for him.

As soon as she arrived, she saw Eustace waiting at the door.

Danika’s feelings were complicated at this moment. She believed that Eustace was not evil. Nonetheless, she couldn’t forgive him for what he did to Evan. No matter his reasons, he shouldn’t have pushed him down the stairs.

“Danika.” Seeing the disappointment in her eyes hurt him. He didn’t fear nor care for Evan’s schemes. All he was concerned about was Danika.

Danika stopped in her tracks and looked at the man in front of her, waiting for him to speak.

“I didn’t push Evan. He fell down the stairs by himself,” he explained. “You know what kind of person I am. I won’t stoop to his level.”

Danika remained silent.

“He suddenly told Howard to call me over. Do you know what he said to me in the study room?” Eustace finally understood why Evan had egged him on the room. From the beginning, he was planning to frame him.

“He told me that he had planned everything, that he kidnapped you, and even his injuries were fake. He even stood up in front of me. How could I behave rationally in that situation?” Eustace asked her, then continued, “The only thing I thought of at the time was to take him to the hospital for an examination. As long as we did a full-body examination, everything would be clear. He has people at Bardoff Hospital.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been diagnosed with such severe injuries. That’s why I stopped you from sending him to Bardoff Hospital. I just hoped we could go to a different hospital for the examination.”

Then, he fell silent, waiting for Danika to speak.

What Did He Give You?

“Eustace, I know maybe you didn’t mean to, but it doesn’t change what happened. You haven’t even asked about Evan’s condition once. Aren’t you too heartless?’ Danika asked, casting him a look heavy with disappointment.

Eustace hesitated. Danika’s disappointed gaze delivered a blow to his heart.

“Danika, since I know his injury is fake, why would I bother asking about his condition? Nothing will happen to him.”

Danika walked away and entered Evan’s house. She didn’t want to talk to Eustace anymore; she just wanted to calm down.

“Danika, I’m telling the truth. Evan’s leg injury is fake. He can even stand up like normal,” Eustace said, trailing behind her. He had to convince Danika to bring Evan to another hospital for an examination.

“Enough!” Danika shouted. “I’ve seen the surveillance footage. You dragged Evan out of the room. Even if his injury is fake, must you pick on and bully him?”

Danika considered it bullying. Having watched the surveillance footage in which Evan had been completely defenseless before Eustace, she couldn’t find any other word to describe it.

Looking into her eyes, Eustace understood that he had lost to Evan. The man knew Danika too well, and he had calculated his every move, leaving Eustace completely defenseless to his schemes. But he wouldn’t give up. He looked at Danika with a firm gaze. “Danika, I know you don’t believe me now, but I won’t give up so easily. I will find evidence to show you that all of this is Evan’s plan.”

With that, he left.

Danika watched his retreating figure, feeling uneasy in her heart. She wanted to believe him, but the facts were right before her. What else could she believe?

Danika went back to her room and slept for a while. After taking a shower, she returned to the hospital to take care of Evan.

As he had promised, Eustace didn’t give up. After taking over the Quincey family, his power grew, and investigating things became more convenient.

He went to visit the person who kidnapped Danika in the dungeon. It was his first time interrogating him since taking over from Blake.

“What did Evan give you that you would risk your life for him?” The man had been looking down, but when he heard Evan’s name, he suddenly raised his head to look at Eustace.

The man sneered, “Evan? I don’t know who that is.’

“It seems that Evan must have done a good job. He treats you well, doesn’t he?” Eustace completely disregarded his reply, steering the conversation in his desired direction.

When the man remained silent, Eustace continued, “But do you really think he’s good to you? If I were to release the information I have about you, what do you think Evan would do?”

Eustace grinned at him. Still, the man remained silent.

Eustace didn’t bother to continue talking to him as he knew a stubborn person like that man had to be hit by reality on his own terms.
