Of course, Evan was well aware of the fact.

He stood silently with an ashen face.

Seeing that, Howard added, “I’ve made the arrangements to leave for abroad. We can make the move at any time.If you’ve come to a decision, I’ll let our men leave before us.Leaving at the same time will only make us an easy target.”

Leaving? Evan did not mind leaving Clusia, but he was only worried that Danika wouldn’t follow.

At that moment, he had not thought of a good way to breach the topic.

So, he said, “Let’s wait for a bit more.I’m waiting for the right timing.”

Although he was unhappy at how Eustace was hanging around Danika, he understood that the two might have started dating had he not shown up and disrupted the plan.

He didn’t see his action as wrong, but he also new it was impossible to keep Danika away from Eustace unless something happened, causing her to lose her faith in the man…

Danika got Eustace into the emergency room at the hospital and waited anxiously for him by the door.

Soon, a nurse who was an acquaintance emerged from the room and went straight to the point, “It’s peptic ulcer—not fatal, but not good to live with it long -term either.”

“Got it.Thank you.”

Danika nodded as she silently grumbled about Eustace’s lack of concern about his health.

When Eustace was wheeled out of the emergency room, he was unconscious.

Although he was fine after receiving treatment, he needed to be warded for a few days for close monitoring.

Danika helped him with the paperwork for hospitalization.

Once she was done, she stayed by his side in the patient room.

The sight of his pale face gripped her heart.

It Was an Accident

Eustace woke up feeling thirsty in the middle of the night. He struggled to sit and get water, but he woke Danika up instead.

“Stop moving around,” she said.

“Just tell me what you want.”

“Water,” he muttered in a hoarse voice.

She poured him a glass of lukewarm water but held the glass in her hand.

“You can’t drink the entire glass of water at once.I’ll dab your lips with wet cotton swabs.Alright?”

She coaxed him like she was pacifying a kid.He couldn’t stop smiling as he nodded.

“Sure.”

With Danika around, his thirst suddenly didn’t feel that bad.

After carefully wetting his lips with the cotton swab, she returned to his bedside.

“You can rest now.”

“What about you? Do you plan to look after me like this?”

He was glad that she chose to keep an eye on him, but he felt sorry for her at the same time.

“Yeah.I’m fine.Dawn is coming soon.”

She didn’t mind staying up.

Eustace did the same for her before, so she had nothing to complain about when she was in the same position.

Eustace didn’t share the same opinion. He moved to the side a little to make space.

“Come lie down in bed.It must be tiring to sit through the night.”

“No, that’s fine. The bed is cramped enough. If I lie down, I’ll only disturb your rest,”‘ she turned him down and stood up.

“I’ll rest on the couch.Call me over if there’s anything.”

The couch wasn’t spacious, but it was just enough for one.

Still, it beat having to rest in a chair.

Eustace didn’t comment further.

Instead, he started chatting with her, “Why did you suddenly come to my place?”

She understood what he was getting at.

After some thinking, she decided to come clean.

“You didn’t call long after I turned on the lights in my room.It was very odd.”

“Does that mean I saved myself?”

He burst out laughing.

“That’s right.”

She nodded, agreeing with him.

“Danika, thank you,” he suddenly thanked her.

Even if he was the one who saved himself, he believed that Danika’s concern was the reason she managed to find him unconscious right away. She pursed her lips and sat up on the couch with a serious face.

“How about you thank me by taking care of your health? You should at least eat your meals on time and rest well.”

“Before I met you, I had nothing that kept me afloat. But I’ve changed a lot after meeting you.”

At the very least, he’d take his meals on time.

Even though he still stayed up late into the night, his current lifestyle was overall better than before.

Danika ignored his claim because she found him unconscious at home.

“If you had changed, you wouldn’t have fainted from pain at home.”

“It was an accident.”

He would have been fine after taking meds, which he happened to run out of. There was no shop selling the meds in the neighborhood, so he decided to tough it out.

To his dismay, the pain worsened to the point that he fainted.Still, he wouldn’t say he regretted his action, for Danika wouldn’t have been taking care of him otherwise.

“Eustace, you’re still young, you know?”

She had a grave expression on her face. She didn’t look like she was joking.

He met her eyes and immediately understood what she meant.

“Don’t worry.I’ll be fine.I’ll live a good life for your sake.”

“No, you should live for yourself, not for me.”

She went back to lie on the couch.

In her opinion, no one should live their life for others. They should all be responsible for themselves.

You Shouldn’t Overthink

Eustace didn’t argue with her because he had arrived at an answer.

Perhaps, growing up in different environments led to a divergent mindset between them.

With her carefree attitude, she could live a good life without him.

But things were different for him.

Had he not met Danika, he’d still be muddling through life.

Therefore, he’d do the best for her and was willing to live for her sake.

“Go to sleep.It’s late.”

She checked the time and realized that morning was near.

He nodded.

Even though he wasn’t sleepy, he’d be a jerk to mess up Danika’s sleep schedule, given how she had been looking after her.

Silence enshrouded the room as they said nothing more.

Only steady breathing sounds were heard in the air.
