Something Fishy Behind His Injuries
Eustace brought Dr.Gaarder with him when he showed up at Evan’s villa.
Danika was off to the hospital, leaving Evan staring at Eustace with a scowl on his face.
“What’s going on, Mr.Quincey?”
“Dr.Gaarder will fly home soon. Before he leaves, I hope you could allow him to check your injuries. You probably wouldn’t want to be using a wheelchair for the rest of your life,” Eustace explained with a half- smile on his face.
Evan shot him a look and noticed the ten bodyguards who came with Eustace.
He then smirked.
“Is that so? Mr.Quincey, seeing the men you brought, I thought you were here for a robbery.”
“Mr.Clarke, you’re overthinking it.” Eustace smiled gently.
“What if I refuse to let you in?” Evan challenged him. nove.leb.ook He stopped smiling as Eustace’s bodyguards marched over.
“Oh well, I would have no choice but to force my way in.You wouldn’t want that to happen.”
“Eustace Quincey, are you trespassing on private property now?”
Evan’s expression hardened.
Eustace was unbothered as he walked up to Evan.
“How could you put it that way? I am doing so because I worry about your injuries. Why are you so against a checkup?”
Evan was silent, but his eyes were shooting daggers at Eustace.
Eustace questioned with a knowing smile, “Is there something fishy behind your injuries?”
At that moment, Evan realized that Eustace must have caught on.
Even if Eustace had no confirmation of the details, he must have harbored suspicion.
Evan thought, “Looks like I have to speed up the process of moving abroad.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about. Please leave before I call the police, Mr.Quincey,” he scoffed, refusing to let Dr.Gaarder check his injuries.
Eustace inched closer to him instead of walking away.
“Mr.Clarke, I’m afraid there’s no running away today.”
He was determined to make Dr.Gaarder perform a checkup on Evan to determine if the injuries were fake.
Howard Young stood in front of Evan as protection, but he was nothing to Eustace.
Just as Eustace was about to pin down Howard, Danika stopped her car on the porch.
“Eustace Quincey! What are you doing?”
He froze upon hearing Danika’s voice. He purposely chose a time when Danika was at the hospital to visit Evan, but…He glanced at Evan, who had a gleeful smirk on his face, and immediately pieced everything together.
It was fine.
Judging by Evan’s reaction alone, he could tell that there was something fishy behind Evan’s injuries.
In other words, there was something fishy behind Danika’s abduction.
“Danika, I brought Dr.Gaarder to perform a checkup on Evan,” he replied.
Danika finally noticed the doctor’s presence, and her expression softened.
“Okay.Just do the checkup. Why did you have to play rough?”
“Mr.Clarke, for some reason, refused the checkup.I could only force him to do so.”
Eustace glanced at Evan with a smile.
Evan met Danika’s eyes and answered calmly, “Mr.Quincey came knocking on my door with his men.I felt that he was here to assault me, not performing a checkup.Of course, I wouldn’t agree to that.”
His explanation made sense because he had beef with Eustace.
Danika agreed that it was odd for Eustace to show up with his men.
“Eustace, Evan is still injured. What were you planning to do?”
“He’s injured? But I wonder if those are actual injuries.” Eustace snickered.
Even though he didn’t have solid evidence, he was almost sure that Evan was faking the injuries.
Danika frowned at his weird accusation.
Why would Evan use a wheelchair if he wasn’t injured? It wasn’t pleasant to be wheelchair -bound.
Ignore Him
“Eustace, I know you don’t like Danika looking after me, but you don’t have to hurt me in this way,”
Evan spoke with sorrow in his eyes.
Danika instantly felt bad for him because he was injured while saving her.
Nobody would want to be confined to a wheelchair if they had a choice.
“Danika, how about you leave with Mr.Quincey? Howard’s around, and he can take care of me.”Evan decided to “compromise” with a forced smile on his face.
However, Danika would never leave him behind. She went up to him and wheeled him into the villa.
“Ignore him.I’ll send you to your room for a rest.”
Soon, the two vanished from Eustace’s sight. He gritted his teeth, holding back the urge to pin down Evan and force the checkup on him.
But he knew better than to do that.
Instead, he ordered the bodyguards to leave.
Only he and Dr.Gaarder were waiting at the entrance.
Half an hour later, Danika finally exited Evan’s villa.
It seemed that she had helped Evan to settle down.
For some reason, Eustace felt bitter at the sight.
“Eustace, what exactly are you doing? Even if you want a checkup for Evan out of kindness, you shouldn’t go about it in this manner.”
As a doctor, Danika understood Evan’s repulsion toward medical professionals.
Many patients who had sustained grave injuries develop trauma against checkups.
Eustace felt aggrieved, but he had no way to air his grievance.
“Danika, don’t you think it’s weird for him to reject Dr.Gaarder’s checkup?”
“There’s nothing weird about that from the lens of psychology,” she answered.
He fell silent after hearing her reply, and a moment later, he went straight to the point, “I suspect that he’s faking his injuries. He’s not injured at all.”
Danika looked bewildered, wondering if she misheard him.
He turned around and said to Dr.Gaarder, “Dr.Gaarder, please repeat your analysis.”
Dr.Gaarder nodded.
Even though he was unaware of the dynamics among the three, he spared no details in his hypothesis.
He argued that Evan’s case was serious, which logically would leave him paralyzed in bed instead of making him a wheelchair user.
Plus, a patient like him should be suffering from agonizing pain, a far cry from his spirited manner.
Apart from Evan’s inability to stand up from the wheelchair, he seemed normal otherwise.
Hearing that, Danika understood that Eustace wasn’t fooling around, and she became pensive.
“Dr.Gaarder, perhaps he’s had a smooth recovery. What do you think?”
Dr.Gaarder didn’t deny the possibility.
“That’s plausible. That’s why it would be best for me to perform a checkup on him.”
The truth would only be revealed after a professional checkup.
However, it was almost impossible to do so on Evan, given his strong resistance.
“Got it.Thanks, Dr.Gaarder.”
