Gavin scoffed. ‘Again?’ he thought. If there ever was a next time, he’d make sure Bradley never set foot in their house again.
Jacqueline smiled, “Alright, Cam, did you and Brad have dinner yet?”
Cameron nodded. “Yeah, Mom, we already ate.”
Lance said, “It’s getting late. Cam, you and Brad should head upstairs and get some rest.”
Cameron nodded again. “Okay.” She pulled Bradley upstairs with her.
Cameron let out a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness Dad and Gavin weren’t too mad.”
Bradley squeezed her hand. “They only forgave me so easily for your sake.”
Cameron squeezed back. “I know.”
When they reached Bradley’s room, Cameron was about to let go of his hand, but Bradley wouldn’t let go. She looked up at him, giving him a puzzled look.
Bradley said, “Cam, I’ll have to head back to Steerfall for a bit tomorrow.”
He had been gone so long already. He really couldn’t put off going home any longer.
Cameron arched a brow. “So?”
Bradley smiled at the corners of his mouth, leaned in close to Cameron’s ear, and whispered, “Can I stay in your room tonight!
Cameron was momentarily speechless.
Bradley straightened up, his gaze burning as he stared at her.
Cameron hesitated for a moment. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Why not?” Bradley asked, his voice soft but insistent.
“I don’t really mind, but if my parents catch us, that wouldn’t be good,” Cameron replied.
“I’ll be careful. I promise they won’t find out,” Bradley said.
Bradley kept his eyes on her, the fire in his gaze softening into a silent plea.
Cameron thought, at a loss for words. From the way he looked at her, it was like she was the one bullying him.
Cameron just couldn’t take that hopeful look in his eyes anymore and gave in with a helpless sigh. “Alright.”
Bradley ducked his head and stole a quick kiss from her lips. “I’m going to go take a shower in my room.”
“Okay.” Cameron just nodded.
They each went back to their own rooms.
Once Cameron got back to her room, she took a quick shower and slipped into her silk pajamas.
When she pushed open the bathroom door, she spotted Bradley lounging on the single sofa in a black robe, casually flipping through the Pharmacology textbook she’d left on the little round table.
Under the warm light, his short hair gleamed faintly, and the gold-rimmed glasses gave him an air of sophistication. With a book in his hands, he looked even more like a gentleman scholar.
Cameron’s eyes lingered on his sharp jawline, then drifted down to those striking, sexy collarbones and a glimpse of his toned chest.
She quickly looked away, rubbing her damp hair dry with her hand as she walked over to him. Smiling, she asked, “Can you even understand it?”
Bradley set the book aside. He caught Cameron’s hand and, with a gentle tug, she tumbled right onto his lap. Cameron let out a soft gasp.
Bradley smiled, pulling her into his arms as if it were the most natural thing in the world. He took the damp towel from her and gently started drying her hair.
Cameron wrapped her arms around his neck, her eyes sparkling with a smile as she looked at him.
Bradley carefully dried her hair, then asked, “Do I look good?”
Cameron smiled, “You look really good.”
Bradley gave her a deep look. “You look beautiful, too.”
With her soft body in his arms, Bradley did his best to keep his composure. He dried her hair until it was almost dry, tossed the towel aside, then pulled Cameron firmly Into his embrace. The next second, his lips crashed down on hers,
Just as things were really starting to heat up in the room, someone knocked on the door.
Bradley’s lips were still lingering on her skin.
But Cameron turned her head toward the door, her palm gently pushing against his chest, which was pressed tightly against hers. Brad, someone’s knocking.”
Bradley’s voice was low and rough. “I locked it.”
Cameron was at a loss for words.
There was a sharp knock at the door.
“Hey, Cam, are you asteep?” Gavin’s voice called from outside.
Cameron pushed Bradley again. “Brad, it’s me.”
That was when Bradley finally stopped what he was doing. He took a deep breath, pulled her pajama top back over her shoulders, and carefully buttoned it up. Then he said, “I’ll wait in the bathroom.”
“Okay.” Cameron nodded.
Bradley stood up, bent down, and planted a firm kiss on her lips before heading into the bathroom.
Cameron touched her lips, remembering Gavin was outside. She quickly got up, fixed herself up in the mirror, and then went to open the door.
“Hi, Gavin,” Cameron said, letting out a few yawns in a row.
“Did I wake you up?” Gavin asked softly.
Cameron shook her head. “Nope, I was just getting ready to sleep. Did you need something, Gavin?”
Gavin nodded as he made his way toward the room. “Yeah, I just wanted to talk to you.”
Cameron reluctantly let him in. She didn’t bother closing the door.
She poured Gavin a glass of warm water, and after they both sat down on the couch, Cameron smiled and asked, “So, what did you want to talk about, Gavin?”
As she spoke, Cameron sneaked a glance at the tightly shut bathroom door.
Gavin crossed his arms and leaned back on the couch. “Cam, what has Bradley been up to this past month?”
Earlier downstairs, Bradley had just apologized. He never actually said where he’d been all month.
Cameron fell silent. ‘What happened back then is already in the past. It’s better if Gavin doesn’t find out, she thought.
Seeing her go quiet, Gavin frowned a little. “Is it something you can’t tell me?”
Thinking quickly, Cameron blurted out, “Gavin, Brad got hit on the head and ended up with amnesia. That’s why he suddenly disappeared.”
“Amnesia?” Gavin gave her a probing look. He could tell Cameron wasn’t telling him the whole truth.
‘Bradley really did lose his memory? Did he just get it back now?’ Gavin wondered. ‘That fast? And seriously, what are the odds? Cam posts on Instagram, and just like that, Bradley gets his memory back?’
Cameron nodded. “Yes, Gavin.”
Gavin still didn’t believe her story. But he could see that Cameron was making excuses for Bradley. She had already made her choice.
So, Gavin stood up and said, “Cam, even though you’ve chosen Bradley, if he ever does you wrong, he’ll have to answer to me.”
Cameron felt both moved and a little helpless. She stood up too, smiling as she hooked her arm through Gavin’s. “Gavin, don’t worry. Brad treats me really well.”
Gavin ruffled her hair affectionately. “You, huh? Now your whole heart’s full of Brad.”
Cameron walked Gavin to the door. “Gavin, you’ll always have a place in my heart.”
“Got it,” Gavin replied with a smile.
Cameron waved at him and was just about to close the door when Gavin caught it before it shut.
“Gavin, what’s wrong?” she asked, looking puzzled.
Gavin said, “I just checked Bradley’s room, but he wasn’t there. Do you know where he went?”
“Not sure, Gavin. Did you need something from him this late?” Cameron replied.
Gavin shook his head. “Never mind, it’s nothing now.”
