Upon hearing that, Blake’s eyes lit up.
“Are you agreeing to help me?” she asked.
“I can help you take control over the Watkins on the condition that I can successfully gain control over the Quinceys. So, you have to find a way for the Watkins to stir up some trouble, do you know what I mean?”
Blake was stunned for a moment, but she soon understood what Eustace was hinting at.
The Quinceys were already in trouble, and giving them more trouble at this time would double the pressure on Yakov and render him unable to cope with it all. However, Blake also had her own difficulties.
“I don’t have much say in the Watkins.”
“This is a problem you have to solve. If you can’t solve it, you won’t be able to help me, so why should I help you?”
After Eustace said that, he then drove into his apartment building without paying attention to Blake.
Blake stood there for a long time, watching Eustace’s car disappear into the distance. She gritted her teeth and made up her mind as she got up and left.
In the following days, Danika took care of Evan in the hospital, and Eustace didn’t go to the hospital to torture himself by seeing them together.
He was busy investigating the mastermind and contacting the best doctors internationally.
In the blink of an eye, half a month had passed, and there were only three days left until the New Year’s.
Bardoff City was covered in heavy snow, and Eustace had to entertain clients until late at night before returning home.
When he arrived at his apartment, he noticed Danika’s door was ajar.
Danika had been staying at the hospital during this time and had hardly returned home, so it was strange to see her door open.
“Danika?” he called out as he walked toward the door.
No answer came from within the unit.
That made Eustace instantly alert, and he sobered up a bit.
He walked into the living room, which was lit up, but he didn’t see anyone.
There was a sound coming from the bedroom.
Eustace frowned, mentally preparing himself for a fight before heading there.
However, when he pushed open the door and saw Danika, who was completely naked, he was stunned and rooted to the spot.
Then, a loud scream sounded.
Following that, a soft pillow hit Eustace in the face, and he didn’t even try to dodge it.
“Sorry! Your door was open, so I thought someone had broken into your house!” he explained hurriedly, then quickly averted his gaze.
That was obviously unnecessary because he’d already seen what he needed to see.
Danika was speechless as she hastily got dressed. She had gone into the bathroom to shower without grabbing her clothes earlier.
Thinking it was her home, she didn’t care too much and walked out naked. She never expected Eustace to come in right at that time.
After getting dressed, she cleared her throat and asked, “Did I forget to close the door?”
“Yes, you did,” Eustace replied.
It was probably because she had come back in a hurry that she didn’t exert enough strength to close the door properly. She found that she couldn’t blame Eustace for walking in on her.
“I see.”
“Huh?”
Eustace didn’t understand what she meant by that.
Was she not angry anymore? Turning his gaze back to Danika, he saw she was already dressed, but her hair was still wet, dripping with water.
“Why did you come back?” he asked.
“Evan has been discharged from the hospital,” she replied and then took out a hair dryer to dry her hair.
Eustace followed her and took the hair dryer from her hand.
“Let me help you,” he said.
Danika wanted to refuse, but in the end, she didn’t.
So, she sat there while Eustace dried her hair, and everything seemed great and surprisingly peaceful between them.
You Can Save the Explanation
Soon, her hair was blown dry.
Eustace then asked, “Have you had dinner?”
“Not yet.”
She’d just come home from the hospital, and all she’d wanted was a shower and good sleep. She hadn’t been getting good rest these few days.
“I’ll make something for you.”
Eustace got up, wanting to go into the kitchen.
Danika grabbed him quickly.
“There’s no need.There aren’t a lot of ingredients here.Let’s just order takeout.”
She could smell the alcohol on Eustace. He’d just come home and had to be exhausted. She couldn’t bear to let him cook for her.
“That’s fine too.”
Eustace did not insist on cooking. He was actually feeling dizzy, but that didn’t stop him from cooking for her if needed.
They went back to the living room, and Eustace shut her door, saying, “You should be more careful in the future.
What if someone else besides me were to walk in? That would be dangerous.”
“Okay.” Danika nodded.
She wasn’t this careless before. She was probably too exhausted to notice. She was debating with herself whether to let Eustace know.
His mood would be affected if she told him, but he’d find out sooner or later anyway. While she was still considering it, Eustace noticed something was off with her.
“What’s up? Has something happened to Evan?”
“No.He’s just like before,” she replied.
“You look preoccupied.”
Eustace trusted his instincts.
Danika was acting weird. She thought about it for a while and said, “I’m going to move to Evan’s house tomorrow so that it’ll be easier to take care of him.”
At once, the air turned cold.
Eustace’s gaze changed as well.
“I’m sorry.I have to…”
“I know. You can save the explanation,”
Eustace interrupted.He smiled a bit.
“You have the freedom to do whatever you want.I have no right to say anything.”
He could perhaps object to it if she were his girlfriend, but she wasn’t.
“I’m only going to take care of him.I have no other intentions, Eustace,” Danika said, explaining anyway.
Unfortunately, her words failed to comfort Eustace at all.
“Yeah, you’re just going to take care of him. Like, forever.”
What was the difference between that and marrying Evan outright? Maybe just the marriage certificate. Danika said nothing.
She knew that all was lost; Eustace was feeling upset now.
“By the way, the doctor I found is coming to Bardoff City tomorrow. You can let him take a look at Evan.Maybe he has hope after all.”
Eustace didn’t want to let go of a single opportunity.
“Alright.I’ll let him know.”
Danika nodded. She wanted Evan to recover as well.
They fell into silence again.
