She answered the call.

“Ms. Lewis, something has happened at school. Robert hit another child.”

Victoria stood frozen. “What?”

She couldn’t process it. Robert had hit someone? Everything had been fine when she left the kindergarten. How could this happen? She hadn’t even been gone that long.

“Ms. Lewis, you need to come to the school right now. The other child’s parents are already here.” The teacher hung up before Victoria could reply.

Victoria stared at her phone. Right before the call ended, she was sure she heard crying – and a woman shouting angrily in the background.

Was all that because of Robert?

“Victoria, what’s wrong?” Diana noticed her strange look.

“Diana, I’ve got to run – you head to the office first.” Victoria spotted the shared bike Diana had just parked near the entrance. She rushed over, scanned the code, and took off.

The office was less than two miles from the kindergarten. Her car was still in the underground parking, but with all the coming and going, riding a bike was much quicker.

Victoria pedaled hard, heading straight for Eaton Kindergarten.

She didn’t believe Robert would just hit someone. There had to be more to it. She needed to get there – fast.

Inside the kindergarten, things were chaotic. A few children were crying, clearly frightened, while the teachers tried to comfort them.

Isabella rushed into the courtyard and saw Robert sitting calmly in a chair, looking unbothered. The sight made her furious.

“Robert, why did you bully Jenarth? You’re older – why would you hit him? And why did you put pieces of cooked egg in his water cup?” Isabella was shaking with anger. She had come with an ambulance and doctors from the nearby hospital.

Jenarth lay unconscious in Tracy’s arms, his skin swollen and covered in red rashes.

The doctors quickly took him from Tracy.

“Please, help him! He ate some egg and now he can’t breathe properly. Is he going to choke?” Tracy was on the verge of tears.

Isabella heard this and glanced at Jenarth, then cried out, “Jenarth!”

A doctor quickly gave Jenarth a shot for his allergic reaction. Slowly, the swelling went down, and he began to wake up.

“Mommy!” Jenarth saw Isabella and started sobbing.

“It’s okay, baby, Mommy’s here.” Isabella held him tightly, crying with him. “I’m so sorry this happened to you.”

More parents began to arrive. The kids got scared and started crying when they saw Jenarth pass out; they were fussing and begging to go home. The teachers had no choice but to call their parents over first to calm them down.

Seeing the ambulance outside, the parents panicked, afraid something had happened to their own kids.

“Sweetie…”

They rushed inside, and when they saw their children were safe, they let out a little breath. But spotting Jenarth in Isabella’s arms, they still looked concerned and stepped closer.

“What happened to him?”

“Mom, I feel terrible. I just asked Robert for help, but he said… he said I had it coming, that I’d be better off dead…” Jenarth buried his face in Isabella’s shoulder, sobbing. “I only wanted to play with him, but he hit me.”

Isabella turned sharply toward Robert, who had been standing apart from the group. “Robert, did you really hit Jenarth? How could you be so cruel?” Her voice tightened with disbelief.

Robert stared back at her, his face dark. “Don’t be absurd.”

The other parents pulled their children close the moment they heard Robert had hit someone.

“How can you hit someone?” One parent pressed, clearly annoyed. “He seems so quiet. Who would have thought he could hit his classmates?”

“Robert, Jenarth just wanted to play with you. Why did you hit him?” Isabella lowered her voice, trying to sound patient. “If your dad hears about this, he’ll be so disappointed.”

“I don’t have a dad, so don’t worry about that. And Jenarth is such a weakling. Why would I bother hitting him?” Robert snapped. “I warned him – stay the hell away from me. And if he’s gonna play dirty, don’t even try to make himself noticeable around me.”

Everyone was taken aback by Robert’s sharp tone. They didn’t expect such a young boy to have such a strong presence.

“Robert, I just wanted us to be friends…” Jenarth hid his face as he started to cry again.

“Robert, how can you treat Jenarth like this? He’s younger than you. You should be looking out for him, not picking on him or hitting him!” Isabella’s voice shook.

“If I’d hit him for real, he wouldn’t be lying here faking it.” Robert scoffed coldly, then turned and headed for a quiet corner on his own.

Robert was furious. Jenarth had set him up, plain and simple. He had tried to get a rise out of him, picked a fight, and then spread the lie that Robert had hit him.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, he’d pulled that insane allergy stunt. He’d gone all the way, just to make Robert look like the bad guy. The whole thing was crazy. Didn’t he worry the ambulance would take too long? That he might actually die right there in kindergarten?

Robert shot a look at Isabella. She’s shown up awfully fast. Are this mother and son team working together, deliberately setting me up? Seems that I’ve been way too lenient with them!

“Ugh, what a rude kid for his age! No respect for teachers or elders. Whose child on earth is this?”

“For real! Look at that attitude – totally blowing off the adults. Having a kid like him here is embarrassing for the whole school!”

“Exactly. How are our kids supposed to be safe around someone like that? Mrs. Campbell, we need some answers. Why is a child with that kind of behavior still here?”

A few parents in the crowd, seeing Isabella comforting a tearful Jenarth, started speaking up in their defense.

Tracy stood there, a strained smile on her face. These were all influential people – she couldn’t afford to upset any of them.

But Robert’s family? She really couldn’t afford to cross them either!

The Myers family of Capaville, with their billion-dollar business empire, was in a completely different league from the other parents here.

However… she recalled that Robert’s mother, Victoria, had divorced Carter. They’d gone their separate ways. And today, the one who was hurt was Jenarth. Plus, Isabella and Carter seemed very close.

It was probably just as she’d suspected!

Carter had divorced Victoria and apparently cut ties with Robert. Now, the woman and child by his side were Isabella and Jenarth.

Robert was just jealous, so he’d taken it out on Jenarth. And maybe, just like Jenarth said, someone had put pieces of cooked egg in his water cup, causing the allergic reaction.

So… was Robert the one who put the egg in the cup too?

With this thought, Tracy’s expression grew even more stern.

“Robert, do you have anything to say for yourself?” she asked, trying to sound authoritative.

“Nope.”

Robert glanced at Tracy and simply brushed her off.

Tracy almost choked on his blunt reply. She cleared her throat and turned to Isabella. “Ms. Williams, the hospital team is here. Perhaps we should get your son to the hospital now?”

“No! Mommy, I want my dad! I want Daddy Carter!” Jenarth clung to Isabella, shaking his head violently. “I don’t wanna go to the hospital! I don’t wanna go!”
