Elena waited outside Abigail’s room, keeping time. She had already set up a camera, ready to capture Abigail’s humiliation and earn Daniella’s praise.
But most of the day passed, and there was no sound from inside.
“That’s impossible. I definitely used a strong enough dose of laxatives. Even if she’s not passed out, she should at least be reacting by now.” Elena grew uneasy. If she failed her task, she would be in trouble.
After waiting a bit longer with no sign of movement, she decided to check inside.
She took out her key, only to find the door was never locked. She pushed it open and walked in.
The curtains were all drawn, the room pitch dark and eerily quiet. A chill ran up Elena’s arms, and goosebumps popped up all over her skin.
She swallowed hard and raised her voice. “Ms. Gibson, I know you’re in here…”
Bang!
The door slammed shut and locked behind her.
Elena turned around in panic, desperately tugging at the handle, but she found that it wouldn’t open no matter what.
At that moment, a shadow drifted past her from behind, carrying a chill of wind that made her tremble.
She quickly turned her head, but only caught a fleeting blur. The outline of that shadow reminded her of someone who had long since died, and she was instantly scared, her legs growing weak. “Who? Who’s there? Stop playing tricks like this!”
Suddenly, the room’s lights began to flicker, flashing on and off. When the light flickered again, the shadow rushed to Elena’s face, and she saw the bloodied, mangled face of the deceased Chloe Hayes.
Chloe had been the servant who took care of Abigail five years ago. She had fallen from upstairs and died when her face hit the ground, turning into a bloody mess.
“Ele… Elena…” The shadow’s mouth emitted a whimper like wind passing through broken windows, a sound as though it came from the depths of hell. “Give me back my life…”
Elena’s legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground. “No… it wasn’t me! It wasn’t me…”
The shadow slowly raised one hand, its fingers twisted and deformed, nails gone, leaving only blood-soaked fingertips. The hand slowly reached out to Elena. “I’m in so much pain! Come with me to hell!”
As the terrifying hand drew closer, Elena’s eyes rolled back, and with a loud thud, she collapsed backward, fainting from sheer terror.
Just as Elena hit the floor, the shadow suddenly froze. Its nostrils twitched slightly, and the sharp, pungent smell of urine grew stronger in the air.
In her extreme fear, Elena had lost control of her bladder.
“Sigh.” The shadow made a derisive sound, then, with a swift motion, the room’s lights blazed on. The shadow slowly raised its hand, removing the black hood, revealing Abigail’s cold, icy face.
Abigail looked down at Elena, lying unconscious on the floor, with disgust and contempt in her eyes. She kicked Elena’s body. There was no response.
“So easily frightened? How boring.” Abigail sneered, her voice full of regret. “I haven’t had enough fun yet, what a pity.”
At least the old ladies from the asylum held up better. She had tortured them for five years, and they were still so tough.
She grabbed Elena by the collar with one hand and threw her out the door. Elena’s body slammed onto the floor with a dull thud.
At that moment, Daniella, who had been at the party, rushed back in tears.
“Ms. Gibson, you’re back…” the servant stepped forward eagerly.
“Get out!” Daniella screamed, kicking the servant aside. The servant, caught off guard, staggered and fell to the ground.
Without a glance, Daniella rushed into the house, her actions loud enough to draw Helen’s attention.
Helen, looking frantic, quickly approached. “Dani, what’s going on? Aren’t you going to a party? Why are you crying like this?”
Daniella collapsed into Helen’s arms, crying hysterically. “Mom, I’m so embarrassed, how can I ever face anyone again?”
Helen, heartbroken, patted her back and tried to comfort her while asking, “Sweetheart, don’t cry. Tell me, what happened?”
Daniella sobbed, and after a while, she managed to speak, her voice still shaky with tears. “I was just chatting happily with them at the party, when suddenly, suddenly…”
At that point, a flash of shame crossed her face, and she opened her mouth but swallowed the words. The truth felt so embarrassing that she couldn’t bring herself to say it.
Just then, everyone suddenly heard a series of loud farting noises, “pfft pfft pfft,” that sounded incredibly out of place and loud in the quiet room.
Daniella’s face instantly turned bright red. She widened her eyes, shocked and embarrassed, instinctively squeezing her legs together, but the noise kept coming.
Helen, equally stunned, had never expected such a thing. She paused for a moment, then hurriedly turned to Daniella, asking urgently, “Dani, did you eat something bad?”
Daniella, both anxious and angry, had tears welling up in her eyes. Seeing the servants still around made her feel even more embarrassed. She screamed at them hysterically, “Get out! Get out of here!”
The servants, frightened, quickly lowered their heads and hurried out.
“Mom, how can I ever face anyone again?” Daniella felt as though she wanted to die right there.
“Don’t worry, Dani, I’ll call the family doctor now to see what’s going on.” Helen quickly grasped the situation and knew that the priority was to get Daniella treated.
The doctor arrived quickly, gave Daniella some medication, and administered an injection, stopping her problem with passing gas uncontrollably.
After the doctor left, Helen stayed with Daniella to discuss the aftermath. “Don’t worry,” Helen reassured her softly. “I’ve taken care of everything. Today’s incident will not get out.”
Daniella said angrily, “Mom, you’ve given them so many benefits that they naturally won’t dare speak out. But I can’t just swallow my pride after what happened!”
Daniella had planned to meet with several young women from small families, hoping to show off her newly acquired limited edition handbag. In the past, they had always tried to flatter her, but today, she had humiliated herself in front of them. She couldn’t stand that.
Helen, afraid Daniella might cause more trouble, quickly responded, “There will be plenty of opportunities to deal with them later. The most important thing right now is getting Abigail married into the Hawthorne family, and your 18th birthday party in a few days.” She spoke delicately, “I know what you’re thinking, and I’ve already arranged everything.”
Upon hearing these two matters, Daniella’s eyes brightened. She grabbed Helen’s hand, leaned on her shoulder, and acted coyly, “Mom, I’m sorry for worrying you again.”
Helen smiled and hugged her shoulder. “You’re my precious daughter, whom I’ve raised myself. Who else would I worry about if not you?”
Daniella smiled slightly, a hint of smugness in her eyes. “Mom, I knew you were the best to me.”
Abigail, even though you are the real daughter of the Gibson family, what does that matter? Your family considers me their treasure.
After Helen left, Daniella ordered a maid to bring Elena to her. She wanted to immediately see the video of Abigail’s embarrassing moment. After feeling humiliated all day, she finally had something to cheer her up.
But the maid didn’t move for a long time.
Daniella’s anger flared. She raised her hand and slapped the maid hard.
