Chapter 382 – The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

What a pity that Eustace couldn’t care less about her denial. “He was here to see me. He’s caught two of Xavier’s killers and wants me to interrogate them.”

“What?” Danika instantly grew worried. “They won’t give you away, will they?”

Eustace looked at her, saying nothing.

Danika felt embarrassed and said, “I was just asking. I don’t care for you at all.”

“Alright. Whatever you say.” Eustace didn’t mean to argue with her. He already knew the answer. She just didn’t want to admit it.

She pouted. At that moment, their food was served, easing the awkwardness somewhat. “You haven’t replied to my question. Will they give you away?”

“Don’t worry. They won’t,” he said. They had no idea that he was the true mastermind behind it. They couldn’t give him away.

Of course, things would be difficult if they ratted Evan out. Eustace and Evan met up quite often nowadays. If that happened, he would be even more suspicious.

Since Eustace was sure they wouldn’t rat him out, Danika no longer asked the question. She didn’t think that anything could happen.

While they ate, the staff around them sneaked glances at them.

Danika and Eustace were a trending gossip topic. They all knew the couple was once married, and they wanted to know what they were now.

But, of course, it was all just speculation and secretive gossip. They wouldn’t dare to bring it up in front of them.

One of them was the head of the Zellwegers, and the other had the potential to be the head of the Quinceys. They could not afford to offend either of them.

Not far off, Derrick’s gaze wandered toward Danika. However, just moments later, someone lightly slapped him. ‘What are you looking at, Derrick?”

“McKenna, I wasn’t looking.”

“Stop fantasizing. Derrick. You weren’t worthy of her before, and you aren’t worthy of her now.” McKenna never held her words back. She thought that his wandering eyes were despicable.

He already had her, but he was still thinking about Danika. He hadn’t even taken her seriously at all.

Derrick did not retort. He smiled at her and said, “McKenna, you’re overthinking things. I’m just curious. I swear I don’t have any other intentions.”

“Really?” McKenna didn’t really believe it.

Derrick nodded. “Really. I know my worth. Besides, I already have you. I’m content now. I’m not interested in other women at all.”

He simply didn’t dare to. McKenna’s jealousy ran deeper than most. She could make him beg for forgiveness for two hours if his gaze strayed to another nurse for a single second. Derrick simply didn’t dare to have other intentions toward other women.

What Lead

Danika didn’t see the couple fight. She was staring at Eustace. “How is the food? It isn’t too bad, is it?” “It’s pretty good. It’s no wonder you come here often,’ he said.

Danika pouted, still feeling a little embarrassed. ‘I’m sorry. I’m not refusing you on purpose. I just haven’t thought it through yet.”

“I know.” Eustace smiled. He understood her inner struggles. If it were him, he’d be struggling to make a decision, too. He wouldn’t know if he were a reliable shoulder to cry on.

Danika opened her mouth, wanting to say something. But the more she looked at Eustace, the harder it was to speak.

“You don’t have to overthink it. Go with the flow. I’d still be a pretty confident person.” Eustace smiled. He believed that Danika liked him, so he didn’t worry too much.

Danika nodded, saying nothing as she continued to eat.

In the Watkins’ residence, Blake watched as the news on the Quinceys was deleted one by one. She couldn’t help guessing what the family was like now.

Who had killed Xavier?

She knew she couldn’t just sit there waiting to die. So, she got up from her room and walked to the one next to it.

“Mom.” She pushed the door open.

Her mother beckoned for her to sit next to her. ‘You haven’t been going out lately. Areyou still angry because your father and grandfather refused to let you get involved in the family business?”

“No.* Blake shook her head. She was angry still, but she couldn’t admit it.

“I know you feel upset, but the family can only have one heir. You know this. ” And it was to be Blake’s brother, not her.

Blake pouted, saying nothing. She changed the topic. “Mom, that’s the last thing on my mind. I was just here to ask you about the Quinceys. You know, Eustace and I…”

She didn’t finish her sentence. Her mother would understand what she meant.

Her worry, however, didn’t arise from her concern for Eustace. Instead, she wanted to see if there was any way that she could add fuel to the fire. After all, Eustace had betrayed her, and she hadn’t yet exacted her revenge.

That was right. In her eyes, what Eustace had done was a betrayal. They had agreed to cooperate and benefit each other. But then, he bit her off. He had betrayed her trust.

Seeing that Blake wasn’t angry, Mrs. Watkins felt at ease. “It’s complicated. Xavier has suddenly been murdered, and Zeke has been investigating the murder these past few days. Apparently, they have a lead.’

“What lead?” Blake asked.

“They’ve caught a few people.” Mrs. Watkins didn’t know much. These were all what her husband had told her.

Blake frowned. That didn’t seem right. “Those people were just lackeys. The real criminal is the mastermind behind it.”

“That’s right. But how can they be found so easily? If they dared to commit such a thing, they were confident they would never be found,” Mrs. Watkins said.

Blake considered it for a moment and asked, “Doesn’t Zeke have suspects? Yakov and Eustace stand to benefit the most from all of this.

Doesn’t he suspect them?”

“He probably does. However, they don’t have any evidence. Plus, his son was killed. He probably wouldn’t want his other son to pay with his life.” Mrs. Watkins thought that even if it was found to be Yakov, they wouldn’t demand that justice be served.

Do You Want to Hurt Him?

Blake was stunned. Of course. Even if it was Yakov, Zeke would not press charges against him. He might even cover up for him.

After a moment’s consideration, she had her answer. Xavier’s killer couldn’t be Yakov. Even if it was, Zeke would clear his name.

And if it couldn’t be Yakov, there was only one other person. Eustace Quincey!

“Mom, do you think this could be Eustace’s doing?” Blake asked. Mrs. Watkins was stunned, but then she shook her head. “He probably doesn’t have the ability. Besides, the day it happened, Eustace nearly died.”

“Nearly died?” Blake was shocked. After being forbidden from getting involved with the family business, she lost her means of gathering intel. She had no idea about it at all.

Mrs. Watkins didn’t hide anything from her since it wasn’t considered big news. ‘On the day Luke invited him to the opening of a turf club, he lost his footing and fell down a cliff. He nearly died. Your father thinks it’s not because he lost his footing but because Xavier and Luke wanted to get rid of Eustace.”

Blake smiled coldly. It required no speculation. That was definitely what happened.

“Your father even mentioned that the people on the racetrack heard the gunshots. Many people are guessing that Xavier had arranged for Eustace to be killed. But no one expected him to be so incredibly lucky. He could survive even that.” The more she spoke, the more Mrs. Watkins felt afraid.” Your father even told me it was a good thing that you and Eustace broke up. By the looks of it, Zeke will never let Eustace get hold of

Quincey Group, even if his talents truly surpass everyone. He would never let Eustace inherit Quincey Group as long as he’s still alive.”

As the head of the Watkins, Mr. Watkins knew very well that when guns were involved, it wasn’t just the underlings carrying out orders. Zeke was still the head of Quinceys. Without his permission, Xavier would never bring out the guns.

There was only one explanation—Zeke wanted Eustace dead. Mr. Watkins understood that clearly. Hence, he stopped all his collaborations with

Eustace. He couldn’t be dragged down. Blake understood quickly, too. But then, she had another thought. “Since we’ve let go of Eustace, why don’t we send him off?”

“What do you mean?” Mrs. Watkins furrowed her brow. Blake leaned in and told her mother her plan.

Mrs. Watkins frowned after hearing her daughter’s words. “Do you want to hurt him? Don’t you like him?”

“I did, but when he abandoned me, my feelings turned to dust. Besides, Zeke would never let him go even if we stood by and did nothing,” she said.

Mrs. Watkins was still frowning. “Your father would not agree to it. You know that he never does anything that doesn’t benefit him.”

Finishing off Eustace didn’t benefit the Watkins at all.

“If Eustace dies, Yakov will be the only remaining heir. Doesn’t he have a son called Julian? I will think of a way to make him fall in love with me. When that time comes, we will be standing by Yakov. Killing off Eustace is like giving him a proper goodbye. If you tell this to Dad, he’ll agree to it,” Blake said.

She knew that her father had always wanted to form a bond with the Quinceys. That was why he was willing to support Eustace. However, it was obvious that Eustace had no chance of inheriting the Quinceys. Naturally, they had to change their target.

However, it was easier said than done. They had to at least be sincere. Eustace’s life would be proof of their sincerity.

You Killed My Father!

Eustace walked into Quincey Manor. At once, he saw Luke walking toward him grimly.

“I know you did it, Eustace!” Luke glared at him, hatred seeping through his eyes. Eustace acted dumb, asking, “I don’t know what you mean.”

“Quit with the act. You killed my father, didn’t you?” Luke got closer to him, looking as if he would fight him.

Eustace waved his hand, pretending to be innocent. “You’re using me as a scapegoat. Don’t you remember what I was doing when your father died? I nearly died in your hands. Why do you have the memory of a goldfish?”

Luke was at a loss for words. He didn’t think it would be Eustace since he simply didn’t have the time or energy to do it.

However, Zeke was sure that it was him. Luke believed him.

“Zeke told you things, didn’t he? Don’t be so stupid, Luke.” Eustace shook his head in exasperation, thinking that Luke was beyond help.

Luke was upset. Before he could ask what Eustace meant, the man spoke.” Zeke has only two sons. And now one of them is dead. Forget who killed him. It can’t be Yakov. You understand that, don’t you?”

Luke turned pale. He obviously understood what Eustace meant.

“Zeke is going out of his way to prove that I am the mastermind behind all this because it has to be me.” He smiled wanly, looking aggrieved at the same time.

Then, he walked past Luke and went toward the underground prison in the villa, toward the two hostages being held there.
