It was a win-win situation for everyone.
“Evan…” Danika still couldn’t shake off the feeling that he was only doing it for her.
“If you really don’t want to owe me anything, why don’t you just agree to be my girlfriend? That way, I can take care of Zellweger Inc for you and guarantee that Zellweger Inc will make further progress,” Evan said, smiling brightly.
When Are You Planning to Get Married?
Danika was startled for a moment. It scared her a little. “Evan, are you kidding me?”
Evan merely laughed. They both knew he wasn’t joking. Nonetheless, since Danika pretended she didn’t know, he didn’t say more or pressure her for fear of invoking her resentment.
Meanwhile, Graham couldn’t help smiling. He had never seen his daughter afraid, which was quite an interesting sight.
He secretly applauded Evan, who smiled and thanked him. It felt good to have his support.
After contemplating it for a moment, Danika finally agreed. “Evan, I’m glad you work at
Zellweger Inc, but let me tell you first that you should never force yourself to stay because of me. If you don’t want to do it anymore in the future, just tell me.”
“Don’t worry, I wont force myself to remain in a miserable situation,” Evan replied, nodding.
Just like that, a decision was made. Soon, dinner was ready, and the three of them walked to the dining area to enjoy a hearty meal.
Compared to the happy atmosphere in Zellweger Castle, the one in Quincey Manor was depressing. At the moment, Eustace was the only outsider left in the competition for the leadership of the Quincey family. Although there had been a few others at the start, they had all been eliminated.
“Let’s eat,” Zeke instructed, and everyone started to eat silently.
It was the Quinceys’ weekly gathering, and everyone showed up. Glancing at everyone at the table, Eustace sneered secretly.
Among Zeke’s two sons, Xavier was most likely to inherit the leadership of the Quincey family, according to the outsiders’ opinion. Zeke has a son and a daughter.
Meanwhile, Zeke’s second son, Yakov Quincey, was a person of low profile who didn’t appear to be competing for it. However, that could merely be an act. Just like Xavier, he had a son and a daughter.
“How are you, Eustace? I heard you had a minor surgery?” Julian asked.
Julian was the rich young man who had chatted with Danika at the engagement banquet. He was a typical rich kid-not very smart but very arrogant.
Eustace nodded and said, “Hmm, I’m fine now.’ He didn’t inform the Quinceys about his amnesia and made up an excuse to avoid any trouble.
“That’s good. Eustace, you have to take care of your body, or else someone might get a little excited,” he said, pointedly glancing at Luke.
Luke was Xavier’s eldest son, infamous for his scheming. He was older than Eustace and had to help his father fight Eustace for the leadership of the Quincey family.
He was not happy about it. In his opinion, since Eustace was qualified to compete for the position of the head of the Quincey family, he should be qualified to compete too. Why did he have to help his father fight for it?
Luke glared at Julian, called him a fool, and ignored him. Luke wondered if Julian genuinely thought Eustace inheriting the Quincey family would benefit them. What good things would come? If Eustace inherited the Quincey family, he would not spare the Quinceys of Bardoff City.
Julian wanted to retort, but Isabelle stared him down. He was always afraid of his sister, so he kept quiet and kept his upset feelings to himself.
Zeke didn’t participate in the youngsters’ quarrel, nor did Xavier and Yakov. It would be ridiculous If they did.
After finishing his meal, Zeke looked at Eustace and asked, “When are you planning to marry that Watkins girl?”
Are You Interested in Her Too?
“We haven’t decided to do that yet,” Eustace answered truthfully. After all, they hadn’t been together for long, and it was too soon to consider marriage.
“The Watkins and the Quinceys are a good match. If you feel it’s appropriate, you should set the wedding date soon/ Zeke said.
Eustace nodded, wondering what his intention was. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it.”
Zeke didn’t say much after hearing his answer. Instead, he looked at Luke and Julian, scolding them, “What about you two? When are you planning to get married?’
“Grandpa, I haven’t even found a girlfriend yet. How can I get married?” Julian pouted, feeling that his grandfather was being unreasonable. Completely disregarding his reply, Zeke turned to Luke. After all, he was his eldest grandson and was at a marriageable age.
Luke put down his utensils and asked seriously, “What do you think of Danika Zellweger, Grandpa?”
Instantly, the mood in the room changed. Julian sneaked a glance at Eustace, whose expression turned dreadful. They were all aware of his past relationship with Danika and wondered what Luke was trying to do by reminding him of her.
Zeke couldn’t be bothered about it. After a moment of contemplation, he said, “I’ve met that girl, and she has some courage. Considering how things are going with Graham, she’ll likely take over the Zellweger family soon. Then she’ll be the first among your age group to inherit her family business.”
Although the Quinceys were at the top of the Ten Elites, after Danika took over the Zellweger family, she would have much more power than the children of the Quincey family. After all, they still had to live under their grandfather’s control. While he was their grandfather, they still did not have power in their own hands.
“Well, I thought so too.” Luke nodded, and his eyes shone behind his gold- rimmed glasses. “Grandpa, do you think she’s qualified to join our family?”
His question made it clear that he didn’t care about Eustace’s feelings. To be fair, Eustace had already divorced Danika, and his feelings were no longer important.
“Are you interested in her?” Zeke asked, his gaze unreadable.
“I am. I think she’s quite capable. If she joins our family, she would barely be qualified,” Luke said. He said “barely” because the Zellwegers was one of the weaker families among the Ten Elites and was only slightly stronger than the Glasses, who had fallen previously.
It was only because Danika was about to take over the Zellwegers that Luke was interested in her. After all, there was a big difference between the eldest daughter of the Zellweger family and the president of Zellweger Inc.
Upon hearing that, Julian couldn’t help saying, ‘Luke, you’re too superficial. You weren’t interested in her when she didn’t want to take over the Zellweger family, but now that she is, you’re interested in her? That’s so shameless.”
Luke turned and glanced at him, “What? Do you have a problem with that? Or are you interested in her too?”
Being no match for him, Julian stared blankly at him without saying a word.
“Of course Julian has no interest in her,” Isabelle said. “It’s just that he thinks you’re being too calculative, which is something to be ashamed of.” Isabelle couldn’t bear to see her younger brother victimized by Luke, so she spoke up for him.
Snorting, Luke retorted, “You think it’s a shame? I don’t think so. I’m doing all of this for the sake of the family. What do you think, Grandpa?”
Don’t Get Too Ahead of Yourself
Zeke’s eyes swept across the room as he nodded. “You’re right. There’s nothing shameful as long as it’s good for the family. Also, what’s wrong with two single people getting married?’ He gave Julian a pointed glare, clearly expressing his displeasure with his remarks. Julian wanted to retort, but Isabelle restrained him. Zeke had made his thoughts clear. He didn’t care about Luke’s intentions as long as they benefitted the Quinceys.
Frustrated, Julian turned to Eustace, asking with his eyes, “They’re talking about your exwife. Why are you so calm?’
Eustace didn’t react. He silently ate his food, considering himself uninvolved in the discussion.
Zeke didn’t look at him but said to Luke, “If you’re interested in her, go after her.
However, don’t use any underhanded methods because I won’t clean up after you.’ He knew Luke’s character, so he had to remind him not to cause any trouble. Although the Zellwegers were not on the same level as the Quinceys, if there was a falling out between the families, the Quinceys wouldn’t benefit from it.
“Don’t worry, Grandpa, I know what to do.” Luke smiled, feeling confident now that
Zeke had given him the green light.
Zeke didn’t dwell on the topic. Instead, he turned to Eustace and said, “You’ve been doing well lately. That company you’re in charge of has grown rapidly, and the people under you are all praising you.’
“You’re joking. Those people are just trying to butter me up because I’m associated with the Quinceys,” Eustace replied with a small smile, not seriously taking Zeke’s compliment.
“You’ve proven yourself. Why don’t you start working at the headquarters tomorrow?
We’ll put you in the business development department first. Is that alright?” Zeke asked.
Although Eustace was stunned, he understood what was going on. “Of course, sure. I’ll follow your arrangements.”
Zeke nodded and reminded Eustace to report to the headquarters the next day. Without another word, he got up and went upstairs to his study room.
After he left, Eustace immediately felt several murderous glares landing on him.
“Eustace, you have some skill,” Xavier said. He didn’t take Eustace seriously at first because he believed that Zeke wouldn’t hand the Quincey family over to an outsider. However,
Eustace managed to obtain a position at the headquarters, whereas Xavier had to work at a smaller company for several years before being able to work there. If word about it got out, everyone would think Zeke had decided to hand the Quincey family over to Eustace, which would not be good news for Xavier.
Upon hearing Xavier’s words, Eustace simply smiled and said, “It’s mainly because Mr.
Quincey values me and gives me opportunities. Otherwise, how would I manage to do this?”
Eustace never treated Xavier and Yakov with the same reverence he reserved for Zeke because he was not afraid of them as he knew the power to make decisions within the
Quinceys did not lie with them. He even hoped that they would take action against him soon so that he could seize the opportunity to deal with them. Otherwise, who knows how long it would take for him to take control of the Quincey family.
“Don’t get too ahead of yourself. After all, you’re just an outsider. Do you think my father will hand over the family to you?” Xavier sneered, believing that Zeke would not make such a mistake.
Eustace put down his utensils and chuckled. “Who knows?”
Who in This Family is a Good Person?
After dinner, Eustace did not stay in Quincey Manor. Since he started managing a subsidiary company, he found an excuse to move out. After all, it was uncomfortable to live under their watch every day.
Seeing him leave like that, Xavier was furious. “Are you just going to let him act that way?” he asked Yakov.
Addressed by his elder brother, Yakov asked, “What are you planning to do? N
“If we have a fight, it’s the Quinceys’ internal matter. We shouldn’t let outsiders interfere, don’t you think?”
Yakov nodded. “You’re right.”
“Since that’s the case, let’s take care of him first.” If Eustace hadn’t performed so well and didn’t attract the attention of Zeke, he wouldn’t want to kill him. After all, if their father found out, he would likely be unhappy. However, if Xavier didn’t get rid of him, something bad might happen. Hence, he decided to team up with Yakov. If Zeke found out, they would both be implicated, and neither would have the upper hand in the situation.
Yakov didn’t object to the proposal. Instead, he smiled and said, “Let’s do as you say. I can’t stand his arrogance either.”
Although he always appeared aloof, there was no way he didn’t want the Quinceys’
inheritance. As Xavier said, the Quinceys’ internal matters should be resolved among themselves, and outsiders like Eustace should not interfere. Since Eustace was interfering excessively, it was upsetting him.
