“Gerry? With his taste? Please.”
“The man’s been in the film industry for ages and still hasn’t made a name for himself. His claim to fame is a B-movie no one remembers.”
Alicia’s eyes narrowed with playful suspicion.
“Then what were you two plotting, hmm?”.
Caden smirked but stayed silent, amusement flickering in his eyes.
How could he tell her the truth?
“We had an affair,” he said with mock seriousness.
Alicia burst out laughing, so much that she dropped a piece of the model on the table.
“Oh no!” she said, picking it up.
“Don’t chip my diamonds.”
After over two hours, the castle was finally complete.
Alicia clasped her hands together, a serene smile spreading across her face.
“I love it, Caden,” she said.
Caden met her gaze, feeling an overwhelming wave of affection.
In that moment, any other plans he had seemed insignificant – he only wanted her, here and now, wholly his.
“Alicia,” he whispered, gently brushing a strand of hair away from her face.
“Yes?” she asked, her eyes so bright and pure that his heart raced.
Caden almost spoke the words on the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed them back and said, “Would you like to change? I want to take you somewhere.”
Her eyes lit up.
“Is this a date?”
“It is,” he confirmed with a smile.
Women loved to look their best for special moments, always conscious of how they appeared in photos and videos.
If she ever regretted her outfit choice, he’d be the one to hear about it later.
Alicia tilted her head playfully.
“Why should I change? Don’t I look good in everything?”
Caden laughed softly.
“You do. But if you’re sure, let’s go.”
After a thirty-minute drive, they arrived at a place Alicia had never seen before.
Caden loosened his tie and used it to gently cover her eyes.
Alicia tensed slightly but grinned.
“You’re not planning some outdoor adventure with this blindfold, are you?” she teased, half expecting a playful surprise.
Caden’s composure almost cracked at her cheeky suggestion.
“Seriously, can’t you think of anything innocent just once?”
Alicia was carefully helped out of the car.
The night air was cool, carrying a hint of saltiness.
She asked, “Are we near the ocean?”
“Yes,” Caden replied as he wrapped his arm around her, using his broad chest to shield her from the cold.
“Are you cold?”
“No, I’m fine.”
They held each other so closely that their body heat mingled.
Alicia was filled with excitement, feeling certain that whatever Caden had in mind would be a wonderful surprise.
They continued walking for some time.
The sound of a heavy door swinging open resonated.
Alicia tilted her head and said, “Could it be an amusement park?”
Who would keep an amusement park open at such a late hour? Yet, considering Caden’s wealth, booking an entire amusement park for the evening seemed within the realm of possibility.
Alicia chuckled as she teased, “Are you taking me to ride the Ferris wheel? They say that making a wish at the top ensures a lasting relationship.”
A hint of a smile played on Caden’s lips.
“That’s quite a clich?.”
Alicia laughed heartily.
“Even if it is, if it’s something you choose, I’ll cherish it.”
Caden paused briefly.
Even though her words felt too sweet to be utterly sincere, he found them endearing.
Alicia couldn’t measure how far they had walked.
Eventually, she sensed they had stepped into an elevator, which ascended for almost a minute before stopping.
As the doors slid open, a robust gust of wind greeted them.
“The wind is so strong,” she said instinctively.
“Are we on a rooftop?”
Deprived of her sight, Alicia’s other senses sharpened.
Caden grunted in response and said, “Just a few more steps, then I’ll remove the blindfold.”
Yet, Alicia hesitated, asking cautiously, “What kind of surprise is this?”
“Be patient. You’ll see very soon.”
“You’re not planning something bad, are you?” Alicia asked.
“It’s the middle of the night on a rooftop.”
Caden found himself at a loss for words.
She was such a delightful person, yet she had a talent for killing the mood.
Gradually, Caden released her hands.
Feeling suddenly vulnerable, Alicia grasped her clothing tightly.
“Caden, where are you going?”
Caden stepped back but remained facing her.
“I’m still right here beside you.”
“Then why let go?” Alicia asked, her voice filled with anxiety.
“Come back here.”
Caden let out a low chuckle, his voice rich and resonant.
“If you’re scared, why not just remove the blindfold?”
Alicia stopped for a moment, stunned by the logic.
She reached up to the blindfold at her eyes, but just then, she heard a buzzing sound overhead.
It was the high-pitched vibration of a small drone.
The buzzing echoed in her ears and even altered the rhythm of her heart.
Before taking off the blindfold, she called out once more,
“Caden, are you still there?”
Caden reassured her, “I’m here, Alicia.”
Encouraged, Alicia pulled off the blindfold and slowly opened her eyes.
