But he assured her he was fine back then! What a liar!

Worried and frustrated, she flipped around and wanted to get out of bed. The three men around her were concerned about her health and went up to stop her.

“Lyse, where are you going? Are you going to look for Jeremy?” Liam pinned down her shoulders.

“He got hurt because of me. I can’t just leave him alone!” she argued, her heart racing with worry. She was determined to get to Jeremy.

“Why would you want to see him? He deserves whatever happens to him! I don’t care if he lives or dies!”

“Liam, I-“

Liam’s eyes were sprouting fire. He forcefully pinned her down by the shoulders and schooled her, “You wasted so many years on that guy. Can you just put him behind from now on, please? Can you put yourself first for once?”

“Liam,” she mumbled after taking a deep breath. “I can be harsh sometimes, but I can’t abandon my conscience. You have to admit that I’m still here, alive and kicking, only because of him.”

In the end, Liam couldn’t persuade Alyssa to stay. She found out Jeremy’s room number and went there with Sean’s support.

As they pushed the door open, they were taken aback by what they saw. The room was empty, and the blanket was neatly folded on the bed.

Yet, Alyssa could still detect Jeremy’s distinct, manly scent lingering in the air, tugging at her heart.

*Excuse me, where’s the patient in this room?” Alyssa stopped a nurse and questioned her.

“He was discharged earlier in the afternoon.”

Landon and Xavier transferred Jeremy to another hospital under Jeremy’s persistent requests.

Jeremy lay on a pristine white bedsheet in his room, hooked to an IV drip. The ordeal had taken its toll on him, but he still appeared remarkably handsome, much to Landon’s envy.

“You scoundrel. I bet you’ll be a casanova even in the afterlife. Tsk tsk, you sinner,” teased Landon with an amused expression. He sat facing the back of his chair with his legs spread and his arms folded on the backrest.

“You’re mean.” Jeremy slowly opened his eyes with rage. He couldn’t breathe properly from the pain. “I was puking blood, and here you are, talking about my looks. I’ve always been better-looking than you.

Does that annoy you?”

“Ah, come on now. I was just trying to lighten the mood in case you were getting bored,” Landon responded.

Landon was concerned for Jeremy’s health but hesitant to delve too deeply into that conversation, fearing it might come across as cheesy.

“Don’t worry, you’re not going to die. I’ve arranged for the best experts to treat you. I even shelled out 100

thousand dollars for a one-time use of a lung machine.

“And if that doesn’t work, I’ll reach out to international experts. I can do anything with the money I have-

even negotiate with the Grim Reaper!”

Jeremy furrowed his brows, annoyed by Landon’s endless chatter.

Landon slapped his chest confidently and declared, “Even if you were paralyzed from head to toe, I will bring you everywhere by my side and make you my lucky charm!

“You might have lost a wife, but you still have a friend in me! I will never abandon my bro!”

Jeremy went over Landon’s words and couldn’t help but wonder if his friend was subtly cursing and mocking him.

“We can still be friends if you keep your mouth shut,” replied Jeremy.

Landon smiled sheepishly with a heavy feeling within. Still, he gathered himself and encouraged Jeremy, Hang in there! If something happens to you, not only will your family lose their bloodline, but your grandpa will not have anyone by his side!

‘Your family is a group of devils. They would totally usurp your success and exploit your grandpa without

Jeremy felt his chest tighten. He had flashbacks of the moment he coughed up blood.

He had been gripped by despair then, and his life flashed across his mind. Two faces appeared in his mind. One was Newton’s, and the other was Alyssa’s.

Jeremy inhaled deeply to calm his nerves. He casually remarked, “If something bad happens to me, my brother will be the one who takes over the presidency.

“To be fair, I took what was supposed to be his. I wouldn’t have become the heir of Walsh Group if it weren’t for his health issues.”

“Nonsense! Primogeniture has no place in the modern world! Your grandpa would have chosen you for your talent and capability, even if Justin were in good health,” objected Landon, who had been watching too many family dramas with his mom.

Jeremy smiled softly, feeling fortunate to have an optimistic friend in his otherwise dreary and boring life.

“Why did you request for a hospital transfer, though? You got hurt because of Lyse!” questioned Landon.

Still seated, he rowed himself to Jeremy’s bedside with his legs.

“Wasn’t that a great chance to talk to her? I might even put on a little show at her doorstep if I were you.

Perhaps I’d pretend to vomit blood all over, just to show how much I’ve sacrificed for her! You should evoke her maternal instincts by parading your misery!”

“It’s my duty to protect her. I would never ask for any reward or praise,” Jeremy remarked. He closed his eyes as a dull pain pulsed in his chest. “I am only making amends for wronging her in the last three years.”

“With your life?”

“Well, I can’t make amends with money, can I? Do you realize how wealthy her family is?” Jeremy’s temper flared.

Landon scratched his head. Right, Alyssa could afford anything with her wealth.

Jeremy’s thoughts drifted to the memory of her pale face in his arms, which only intensified his heartache.

He wondered if she was awake now and if her fever had subsided. He also couldn’t help but worry if she suffered any fractures from hanging onto the cliff.

She was all he could think about.

Taking a deep breath, he clutched his bedsheet tightly as if trying to kill a budding urge.

Had he truly fallen for her? 2

His heart raced at the thought of it. His breaths grew heavy, and his cheeks flushed.

“Hm, why are your cheeks red? Do you have a fever?” Landon wanted to take Jeremy’s temperature by touching the forehead, but Jeremy swatted his hand away.

“Ouch! That fucking hurt!” Landon grinned while shaking his hand. “You’ve got quite the strength. Looks like you’re in good shape. Your combat skills are there.”

They were interrupted by a series of urgent knocks on the door. Xavier barged in without waiting for permission, his mouth hanging open in surprise.

Then, a melodious yet assertive female voice filled the room. “Jeremy Walsh, how dare you switch hospitals without informing me when you’re seriously injured? You should have stayed put. What the hell were you doing?”

With that, Alyssa entered the room with Sean’s assistance. Her presence was astonishingly captivating.

After a shower, she changed into an aqua-blue dress and a chic white cashmere coat. Her radiant complexion left Jeremy dazzled.

She strutted in her iconic high heels, her head held high. She didn’t look sick at all.

She was literally glowing from head to toe when she gave Jeremy a frosty stare. Her actions made it seem kisses.

Jeremy pressed his parched lips together and put on a look of dismay.

“I’m asking you. Answer me!” Though she appeared emotionless, she silently observed his pale expression, which only fueled her anger.

Her irritation grew as she scolded him, “What’s your plan? Keeping your injuries hidden from me and avoiding me physically? Is this your way of grabbing my attention?”

Landon was caught off guard by Alyssa’s domineering air. On the other hand, Jeremy looked like a disgruntled spouse as he weakly sat on the bed and shot a begrudging look at Alyssa.

Once the idea crossed Landon’s mind, he suddenly saw the situation in a comical light. He couldn’t help but guffaw.

However, Landon obediently stumbled backward after Alyssa shot him a death glare, like one of

Cleopatra’s many male lovers.

Xavier swiftly went up to her and said, “M-Madam-“

“Madam? What?” Alyssa frowned.

“Uh, Ms. Alyssa, Mr. Walsh switched hospitals because he didn’t want you to worry about his injuries. He wanted you to focus on your recovery,” Xavier muttered meekly.
