“Robert, is this how your mother has raised you? To be this rude and undisciplined?” Carter no longer cared about their public surroundings, his anger boiling over.

Robert wasn’t about to back down either. He pointed directly at Isabella and Jenarth. “Anyone with basic perception can see these two are trouble. Both of you, old and young, are nothing but schemers. You tried to frame my mother, and you – ” his gaze shifted to Carter, ” – acting all magnanimous while being completely clueless! You’re not just foolish, you’re utterly hopeless.”

“Robert, how dare you speak to your father like that!” Isabella exclaimed in feigned shock.

“Oh, so you do acknowledge he’s my father?” Robert shot back with a sarcastic glance.

“Robert, what have I ever done to you? Why are you shouting at me?” Jenarth hung his head, his eyes welling up with manufactured tears. “It’s fine if you dislike me, and it’s fine if you yell at me. But please, don’t speak about my mother that way. She’s all I have.”

“Enough!” Robert held up a silencing finger.

Jenarth looked at him, tears trembling on his lashes as if he might burst into sobs at any moment.

Robert’s gaze swept past Carter before coldly settling on Isabella and Jenarth. “Next time you plan to set someone up, you might want to be more discreet about it.”

Isabella stared at Robert’s determined expression, and a sudden dread gripped her heart. An ominous premonition washed over her.

The atmosphere grew palpably tense. Everyone in the restaurant had heard Robert’s accusation, and all eyes now focused on him, waiting to see what would happen next.

Noticing the panic in Isabella’s eyes, Robert didn’t hesitate. He pulled out his phone and, with a few quick taps, activated the restaurant’s speaker system. As confused murmurs spread through the room, a recorded conversation began to play – featuring Isabella and Jenarth’s voices clearly discussing their scheme.

“Jenarth, I’ll approach them first. You follow shortly and make sure we teach Victoria and her son a proper lesson.”

“Understood, Mommy. Remember to fall toward the right side of the table – that’s the camera blind spot. No matter what happens, the surveillance won’t capture it…”

“Got it.”

“Let’s make them regret ever coming here today. Heh!”

Hearing the recording, Isabella completely lost her composure. She stared at Robert in horror. “What is this?” she stammered, unable to believe their private conversation was now being broadcast to the entire restaurant.

A cold smile touched Robert’s lips. “If you’re going to play dirty, at least learn to cover your tracks. Seriously? You connected to the restaurant’s WiFi the moment you arrived. Next time you’re plotting something on your phone, you might want to disable your Bluetooth first.”

Jenarth instinctively checked his phone for active connections – a movement that sealed their guilt in the eyes of every witness. Everyone saw the panic and shame flash across the young boy’s features.

The truth was now undeniable. No further evidence was needed.

Realizing the situation was spiraling out of control, Isabella desperately attempted damage control. “This isn’t true! How could I possibly set someone up? It must be you… you…” She pointed a trembling finger at Robert, raising her voice. “You fabricated this! You’re deliberately targeting me! How does a child your age even know about such technical things? This is terrifying! Did your mother teach you to frame me like this?”

“Still performing?” Robert rolled his eyes, his expression thoroughly unimpressed as he glanced toward Carter.

As for Carter – this clueless, hopeless man – there was clearly no saving him.

At this moment, Carter stood utterly bewildered, as if unable to process what he was witnessing. What a complete fool!

The entire restaurant had heard the damning recording. Now, all the angry and disapproving stares turned toward Isabella, with some guests openly criticizing her false innocence. Others directed their disappointment toward Carter for his passive complicity.

Carter remained frozen in place, struggling to accept that Isabella could have orchestrated such a scheme – and that Jenarth would participate in it!

“Carter, it’s not what it seems! How could I ever do something like this?” Isabella grabbed his arm desperately. “I would never! There must be some misunderstanding!” She clutched her chest dramatically, feigning injury. “Carter, this has to be a mistake! Jenarth and I were simply having a meal… I only approached them to build rapport with Victoria… I wanted to help mend your relationship… I…”

“I know,” Carter said, his voice gentle, trying to soothe her. He sounded like he didn’t blame Isabella in the slightest.

Victoria shot him an icy glare. “Wow, talk about double standards,” she sneered, her voice dripping with contempt.

Carter fell silent, at a loss for words.

“Mommy, are you okay?” Jenarth’s small, anxious voice piped up.

“I’m fine… I’m really okay…” Isabella managed a weak smile, but the effort was too much. The next instant, her legs gave way and she crumpled.

“Isabella!” Carter shouted, lunging forward just in time to catch her before she hit the floor.

She fell like a fragile blossom, landing limply in his arms. Seeing her deathly pale face, a sudden, sharp panic seized Carter.

“Isabella?” he called softly, but there was no response. “Isabella!” he repeated, his voice rising with alarm.

He was starting to freak out. Her health was already so precarious – the doctor’s warning echoed in his mind – if she didn’t take extreme care, she might not even have three years left. She needed peace, zero stress.

But today, with Victoria pushing her and even Robert adding to the accusations… it was all too much. This emotional turmoil was the last thing Isabella could handle.

“Victoria, Isabella is unwell. Stop harassing her. I’ll apologize on her behalf,” Carter said, frustration and worry warring in his voice. “If anything serious happens to her, I’m holding you responsible.”

“Pathetic,” Victoria scoffed. Any lingering doubt she might have had about Carter evaporated in that moment. Even if he dropped dead right there to prove a point, she wouldn’t bat an eye.

She wanted absolutely nothing to do with a man this repulsive. The farther he was from her life, the better.

All she cared about now was getting those papers signed.

What an utter fool. Only someone as gullible as Carter would fall for Isabella’s pathetic acting.

“Daddy Carter, is Mommy going to die?” Jenarth’s small, trembling voice carried through the dining room, tugging uncomfortably at heartstrings.

The sound of Jenarth’s voice snapped Carter back to reality. Arguing with Victoria now was pointless.

“Isabella, Isabella… wake up,” he murmured, gathering her unconscious form into his arms and striding purposefully out of the room. “Hang in there, Isabella. I’m taking you to the hospital…”

His anxious words faded as he hurried away, leaving a tense silence in his wake.

Victoria’s face remained a complete blank, utterly impassive. The entire scene might as well have been happening on another planet for all the emotion it stirred in her. She didn’t care. Not one bit.

“Robert, let’s go. I need some eye drops after that disgusting display,” Victoria declared, grabbing Robert’s hand and turning to leave.

Just then, her phone buzzed. It was the lawyer, Zachary Graham.

Answering it, she confirmed he had arrived at Eve Restaurant. Without hesitation, she issued her command, “Zachary, I’ll pay double. Deliver the divorce papers to Myers Manor yourself.”

After giving the order, Victoria moved to leave with Robert, but she paused after a single step.

Her gaze lifted towards the private rooms upstairs. The special one-way curtains prevented anyone downstairs from seeing in, but the vague outlines of moving shadows were just perceptible.

She narrowed her eyes. Even through the barrier, she had the distinct, unsettling feeling of being watched – like she could sense the man standing behind that curtain.

“Mommy, what’s wrong?” Robert asked, confused by her sudden halt.

“Nothing,” Victoria said, shaking off the feeling. She tightened her grip on his hand and strode off without a backward glance.

In the private room, Landon watched the pair depart and let out a low whistle.

“Damn, that woman’s stare was intense,” he muttered, taking a quick swig of his drink. “Even with the curtain, she couldn’t see me, but I still felt… exposed. Like she saw right through it.”

He leaned back, curiosity piqued. “Who is she, anyway? I’ve never heard of Carter keeping company with a woman like that.”

Pulling out his phone, he dialed his assistant. “Hey, I need you to dig up everything on Carter Myers. And I mean everything – especially about that woman who was just with him. Go deeper than the basic corporate profile. I want the most detailed dossier you can get.”

“Yes, Mr. Voss…”
