Backed against the glass door, Abigail stared him down, eyes locked on the lunatic charging toward her.

A sharp scream of pain cut through the night.

The sound of it made Jill and Cameron, who were rushing to the scene, feel a chill run down their spines.

Abigail stepped out from behind the door, calmly wiping her hands. She tossed a soiled handkerchief into the trash can nearby.

“Abigail, are you okay?” Jill ran over in a panic, glancing toward the balcony. But it was too dark – she couldn’t see anything.

“I’m fine.” Abigail pressed her lips together and took Jill’s hand. “It’s late. Let’s go home.”

“Oh – okay.” Jill followed her obediently.

Cameron paused, squinting toward the balcony for a moment. Then he adjusted his glasses and quickly caught up to them.

“If I ever find out who locked me in that room, they’re dead,” Jill fumed. The staff had told her someone lured her away by claiming Cameron was being bullied, then locked her up.

Thankfully, Cameron found her in time.

He sighed. “You can’t just believe whatever people tell you.”

Jill scowled, hands on her hips. “This is your fault! If I hadn’t been so worried about you, would I have fallen for it?”

Cameron had no comeback. He just raised his hands in surrender. “Alright, alright. My fault. Totally my fault.”

“Hmph.” Jill finally let it go.

Abigail stayed silent the whole way out.

When the three of them exited Eastgate Lounge, a black Rolls-Royce Phantom was waiting by the curb. Andrew stood respectfully at the door.

“Is that… Andrew?” Jill’s jaw dropped slightly.

Andrew gave a polite bow and opened the car door.

The interior lighting was dim. All that could be seen was a pair of long legs, tailored black trousers cut from the finest fabric, and a glimpse of sleek leather shoes – elegant and understated.

Abigail glanced into the car and said calmly, “You two go on ahead.”

Jill peeked inside, then nodded. “Alright. See you at school in a few days.”

“See you.” Abigail gave a small nod.

Cameron led Jill away. As she glanced back one last time, she saw Abigail get into the Rolls-Royce.

The moment she saw Andrew, she’d already guessed who was waiting inside.

Inside the car, Lucas looked down at the quiet girl beside him, frowning. His voice was soft. “Did you get hurt?”

Abigail still said nothing. Her thumb pressed a hidden point on her ring. A silver needle shot out, gleamed faintly in the dark, then retracted. She did it again. And again.

Lucas’s eyes twitched when he recognized the needle – the one she once used to threaten him. If he wasn’t mistaken, it still had traces of blood on it.

“I’m sorry,” Lucas said quietly. “You were harassed because of me. But I promise – he won’t ever bother you again.”

He had already removed all of Mason’s people from the company. Mason himself was next on the list.

Abigail finally looked up, her expression softening. “It’s fine. I already handled it myself.”

Her thumb pressed the ring again. The bloodied needle popped out once more.

Just then, Andrew walked over and leaned in to whisper something in Lucas’s ear. His eyes briefly flicked to Abigail, clearly a bit stunned. “…he’s crippled… taken away…”

Lucas remained calm. He gave a slight nod. “Send him out of the country tonight. Handle it personally.”

“Yes, sir.” Andrew left without delay. If they were going to do this, it had to be fast.

“I’ll take you home,” Lucas said gently.

Abigail gave a small nod. She had to admit – she’d been unfairly angry at him earlier. If she hadn’t acted on impulse and saved him that night, she wouldn’t be tangled up in his messy world now.

“Marshall’s company is in trouble,” Lucas said, watching her reaction carefully. “He’s been trying everything to get support from the Gibson family.”

Abigail’s brows immediately pulled together at the mention of that name. “Hmph. His business was bound to crash sooner or later. And now he thinks the main Gibson family will help him? Not likely. They only care about profits. If he can’t offer something worthwhile, no one’s going to bother with him.”

Lucas nodded. “Exactly. In the past, they might’ve ignored him. But now… things are different.”

Abigail glanced sideways at Lucas. True – the Gibson family might’ve stayed out of it before. But with her engagement to Lucas now in place, things weren’t so simple anymore.

“Don’t worry,” Lucas said with a sigh. “I haven’t forgotten the first thing I promised you.”

He hadn’t expected to be so thoroughly disliked – but here he was.

As long as the Hawthorne Group refused to show any interest, the Gibson family wouldn’t see any benefit in this engagement. The moment they realized there was no profit to gain, they’d think twice about helping Marshall.

But for Abigail, that wasn’t enough. She shot Lucas a cool look. “Let’s keep our public appearances to a minimum from now on.”

Lucas raised a brow. So that’s it – I’ve been officially rejected.

Abigail honestly thought the man attracted too much drama. Better to only see him when absolutely necessary – like for his treatments.

And as for Marshall trying to save his company? He could keep dreaming.

When Abigail returned to the Gibson estate, she was surprised to find both Marshall and Helen actually waiting for her in the living room.

“Abigail, thank god you’re back,” Daniella rushed up first, all smiles, reaching out to grab her hand like a loving sister.

Abigail dodged it without hesitation. Daniella’s hand froze mid-air, and her smile faltered. But she quickly recovered, plastering on a wounded expression. “Abigail, you’re a daughter of the Gibson family. How could you stoop so low, hanging around with shady people in places like that, and even…”

“And what else?” Abigail’s eyes cut sharply toward Daniella, her tone like ice. “Go on, say it.”

Marshall sat on the sofa, his face dark enough to drip ink. With a loud crack, he hurled the glass in his hand to the floor. The sound of shattering echoed harshly in the quiet living room.

“Abigail, what kind of attitude is this? Do you even see me as your father?”

Father? Abigail rolled her eyes. “Spit it out if you’ve got something to say. Don’t waste my sleep.”
