Abigail quietly watched the exchange, frowning slightly at their choice of words and the way they spoke to each other.
Noticing her confusion, Samson explained briefly, “Jill’s my older brother’s daughter.”
Abigail nodded slightly at that, not pushing for details.
Jill, on the other hand, looked between them with bright, curious eyes. “Uncle Samson, how do you know Abigail?” And from the way they interacted, they seemed pretty close too.
Samson could tell she was already cooking up some wild theory and flicked her on the forehead. “What kind of nonsense are you dreaming up in that head of yours?”
“Ow!” Jill yelped, stumbling back while rubbing her head.
Cameron shifted like he wanted to step forward – but in the end, stayed where he was.
Samson gave Jill a look. “She’s Abigail.”
Jill blinked. “I know that.”
They had just introduced themselves, after all.
Samson rolled his eyes, but Cameron caught on quickly and said gently, “You mean the Abigail Gibson? The one engaged to Mr. Hawthorne?”
Jill’s eyes went wide with shock. “You’re the one who’s engaged to Mr. Hawthorne?”
Abigail found her expression amusing and smiled. “Yep. That’s me.”
“Oh my god! Oh my god!” Jill squealed, circling Abigail a few times in disbelief. Her face screamed this is insane. “I can’t believe I just made friends with Mr. Hawthorne’s fiancée. This is unreal!”
Samson couldn’t take her over-the-top reaction and rolled his eyes again. “Alright, that’s enough. Quit embarrassing yourself and go do something useful.”
But Jill wasn’t the least bit offended. She linked her arm with Abigail’s and said, “Uncle Samson, we already made plans to go celebrate. So I’m taking Abigail with me.”
Samson didn’t object right away. After thinking about it, he said, “Then go to Eastgate Lounge. It’s ours – safe enough.”
Jill lit up even more. She asked, eyes gleaming with anticipation, “Does that mean we can use the VIP room?”
Samson gave a nod. “Go ahead.”
“Yes!” Jill cheered and practically bounced with excitement. She grabbed Abigail’s hand and rushed off toward Eastgate Lounge, chattering non-stop along the way. “Abigail, Eastgate Lounge has a ton of fun stuff. Tonight we’re going all out!”
Behind them, Samson reminded, “Don’t stay out too late.”
“Got it!” Jill replied, already dragging Abigail into her car and speeding off.
Eastgate Lounge was the most exclusive club in Stonebridge – strictly members-only. Naturally, the bar for entry was high: a net worth of at least 7 million dollars, plus proven success in one’s field.
The club was divided into three main halls: the general lounge, the luxury hall, and the elite-level VIP suite.
Even Jill, despite her connections, had only visited the VIP suite a few times – always with Samson.
Inside, floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows wrapped around the entire lounge. Standing at the edge, the three of them looked out across the glittering Stonebridge skyline, the city’s brilliance spread beneath them in every direction.
“Come on, let’s hit the bar!” Jill said excitedly, tugging Abigail along. Every time she’d come before, Samson had forbidden her from going into the bar. She’d been dying to check it out.
Cameron frowned. “But Mr. Samson said not to.”
“Oh please, he’s not here. And he’s not gonna find out unless someone tells him. Quit nagging.” Jill was in full party mode now – there was no stopping her.
Cameron had no choice but to follow, looking uneasy.
Inside the bar, Jill let loose. She danced wildly to the beat of the music, totally in her element. Her energy was contagious – cheers and whistles rose from the crowd around her.
Cameron stayed close, keeping an eye out for anything shady.
Meanwhile, Abigail sat at the bar, slowly swirling her drink. She glanced at the dance floor and the crowd, but wasn’t really feeling it. What caught her interest instead was the bartender’s graceful, precise movements – how the different spirits clinked and blended in the shaker, how the colors shifted and shimmered.
The bartender had recognized Jill right away and prepared drinks accordingly – sweet and low-alcohol, perfect for someone underage.
“Ugh, I’m wiped.” Jill returned from the dance floor, drenched in sweat.
She’d barely taken a sip of her drink when a staff member leaned down and whispered something in her ear.
Jill frowned, then bent toward Abigail and shouted over the music, “Something came up. I’ll be right back – don’t go anywhere!”
Abigail gave a small nod, and Jill followed the staff member out.
Not long after, Cameron returned from the restroom and immediately noticed Jill was missing. He turned to Abigail with a frown. After hearing what happened, he took out his phone and called Jill.
But her phone buzzed in Abigail’s lap – Jill had left it behind before heading out to dance.
Cameron’s unease grew.
Abigail picked up on it right away and stood up. “Let’s split up. We’ll call each other if anything comes up.”
“Alright.” Cameron took off in one direction, visibly anxious.
Abigail flagged down a staff member, who pointed her in the direction Jill had gone. She followed the trail, stopping again when another worker pointed her further along.
Unknowingly, Abigail had wandered far from the lively heart of the club. There was a faint sound coming from a balcony up ahead. She stepped closer. “Jill? Is that you?”
Just as she entered the space, she heard the sharp click of a lock behind her.
Before she could react, the stink of alcohol hit her – followed by a shadow lunging at her from behind.
Abigail reacted in a flash, twisting her body to the side. Mason, too drunk to stop himself, stumbled forward and crashed hard to the ground with a dull thud.
He struggled to his feet, eyes bloodshot, glaring at Abigail with a vicious snarl. “Little bitch… you’re just as hateful as Lucas.” He swayed as he stood, cursing under his breath.
Abigail had already realized that the door had been locked from both sides – Mason from inside, and someone else from outside.
“Don’t waste your strength. You’re not getting out,” Mason sneered, eyes gleaming with malice. Ever since Lucas had woken up, Mason had lost all his footing in the company. Just today, all the men he’d planted in the group had been wiped out. He had nothing left.
He hadn’t planned this. Tonight was supposed to be about getting drunk. But when he heard that Lucas’s fiancée was here too, everything changed. The guy who told him was right – this was the perfect chance for revenge.
“Lucas thinks he’s untouchable? I’ll sleep with his fiancée tonight and make him the laughingstock of all Stonebridge!”
Mason had completely lost his mind, driven by a single twisted goal – humiliate Lucas by violating Abigail.
