Paul nonchalantly nodded at him and downed a glass of wine. “Even if you have this, Danika may not believe you.”

“I know, of course, there has to be more evidence than this.”

Something was about to happen that night, and the confession of Evan’s man was the evidence he needed the most. However, that man needed to be hit by a dose of reality before he would open his mouth.

Goodbye

Eustace and Paul didn’t drink for long and soon left the bar. Eustace went back early and waited for news. He had already sent out the message, and Evan would definitely take action. With such a huge bargaining chip in Eustace’s hands, Evan wouldn’t sit still.

Night fell, and Trey Ulmer crouched in a corner. It was pitch black all around, and he was filled with despair. It had been a long time since he was caught, and he could no longer distinguish between day and night.

Even so, he still clenched his teeth and refused to expose Evan-he believed in his boss. He was confident that he would come to save him. It was this trust that kept him going until now. Otherwise, when he was being tortured by Blake before, he would have collapsed long ago.

Footsteps echoed in the darkness, and Trey immediately became alert.” Eustace! What are you doing here? I told you, I won’t say anything.’ Even though he had not seen the person yet, Trey guessed it was Eustace. After all, this was the man’s territory, and he was eager to get his confession.

However, the person merely walked closer until he reached the cell. Under the moonlight, Trey saw a person clad in black with a mask and a hat, and he couldn’t tell who it was.

“Who are you?’ Trey asked directly, feeling uneasy.

Maybe he was afraid that Trey would cause too much commotion. The person said, “Don’t make a sound. I’m here to save you.”

“Howard!” Although the person didn’t reveal his identity, Trey recognized his voice immediately. His eyes filled with tears in an instant. Evan had sent someone to save him! His days of suffering were finally over.

Howard could see the hope in Trey’s eyes, which made him unable to look directly at him. He took out his lock-picking tools from his bag and quickly opened the cell door.

“Trey, you’ve suffered a lot.”

“As long as Boss is fine, I’m willing to endure any hardship,” Trey said, elated. He hadn’t been abandoned, which meant a lot to him.

Conflicted, Howard looked at him. “Go quickly, don’t let anyone find you.”

Trey nodded and walked ahead. He didn’t want to stay there for a moment longer.

However, before he could leave the place, he noticed Howard picking up his gun through the shadow on the ground. Instinctively, he dodged to the side.

With a loud bang, a bullet was fired at him, but it didn’t hit him.

“Howard! You…’ Trey was shocked. If he hadn’t reacted in time, he would have died.

Howard looked guilty as he approached Trey slowly, who was hiding in the corner. “Trey, I have no choice. The boss won’t let you live, and I can’t keep you.”

“Why? I didn’t say anything!” Trey didn’t understand. He would understand if he said something he shouldn’t have and the boss wanted to kill him, but he hadn’t said anything. Wasn’t it too heartless to hurt him like this?

Howard smiled bitterly. “It doesn’t matter whether you said anything. It was already decided the moment you were caught.”

Trey understood, and he smiled too. So that was the true nature of his trustworthy boss. He trusted him, but the other person didn’t trust him at all.

“Goodbye, Trey. From now on, I will pray for you at this time every year,”

Howard sighed, approaching Trey.

Cornered, he had no chance to escape. Trey didn’t want to escape either. His hopes were destroyed, and he couldn’t accept it. He thought it might be better to just die.

While he wanted to die, Eustace didn’t. At the moment when Howard was about to shoot, Eustace fired first, and the bullet hit Howard’s shoulder, causing the gun in his hand to fall to the ground.

The Confession

However, Howard was not taken out so easily. With his quick reflexes, he picked up his gun and ran away. Although he also shot at Trey a few times before leaving, he couldn’t be sure if he hit him or not.

All he knew was that he had to leave. If he fell into Eustace’s hands, everything would be over, so he fled.

Eustace didn’t go after him, as Howard was not his target, to begin with. With a click, the dungeon lights were turned on, and Eustace saw Trey hiding in the comer. He had been shot in the thigh, but it wasn’t a big deal.

He walked over to him. “So, do you still believe that your boss will come to save you?”

Trey remained silent. He was still processing a mental breakdown and had no mood for conversation.

Nonetheless, Eustace didn’t have anytime to waste. “Even now, you still won’t confess?”

“I told you not to waste your time. I won’t say anything.” Although Trey had lost all hope for Evan, he still had his principles.

Eustace frowned—he didn’t expect him to be so stubborn. It was annoying that he still refused to speak even at this point.

He tried to control his temper and explained the deception that Evan had played on Danika and him. “You also have a wife and daughter,” he finally said. “Have you ever thought about what you would do if they were deceived like this?”

Since being tough didn’t work, Eustace had to try a softer approach. It turned out that Trey was someone swayed by kind words. After hearing Eustace explain the whole thing, he laughed and said, “No wonder he did such a senseless thing at that time, so that’s why.”

At that time, he and his colleagues didn’t understand Evan’s behavior. Although they didn’t question him, they found his actions strange.

Unfortunately, Evan never explained it to them. Finally, he found out the true reason from Eustace.

He found it very funny.

Seeing that Trey was moved, Eustace continued to explain, “I did it to save the person I love, do you understand?”

Perhaps it was the emotions Eustace displayed, or perhaps Trey was no longer as stubborn as before, as he confessed to everything. Eustace made sure to record it so he wasn’t afraid of Trey retracting his statement. However, he still wanted Danika to hear it with her own ears.

“Trey, I’ll bring her here later. Can you tell her what you just told me again?” Eustace asked him sincerely.

After a stunned silence, Trey nodded. “Okay.”

Before Eustace left the dungeon, he sent someone to bring Trey out of there and treat his gunshot wound. Then, he went to find Danika, feeling very excited that everything was about to come to light.

He had a witness from Evan’s side, as well as the records of the doctor from Bardoff Hospital who had taken the money. This time, he didn’t believe that Danika would disregard his claims.

To his surprise, by the time he found Danika, she and Stephanie had already gotten drunk to the point where they were having trouble even walking, let alone listening to Trey’s words.

“You came just in time. Take Danika back,” Stephanie said, a bit surprised to see him but still trusting Eustace.

Taking Danika from Stephanie’s hands, Eustace was about to leave, but

Stephanie added, “You probably don’t know yet, but Evan wants Danika to go abroad with him. If you don’t want to lose her, you should think of a solution quickly. From what I can tell, Danika will probably agree to his request.”

Danika felt strongly responsible for Evan and couldn’t bear to see him spend his whole life in a wheelchair because of her. Hence, even if it meant sacrificing her happiness, she was willing to do it for him.

Did You Change My Clothes for Me?

At Eustace’s villa, he stood on the balcony and lit a cigarette. He wasn’t a frequent smoker, but he was too distressed at the moment, and smoking seemed to be the only thing that could make him feel a little better.

Looking at Danika, who had already fallen asleep on the big bed in the bedroom, he sighed and extinguished the cigarette in his hand. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he couldn’t help but reach out and stroke her cheek as she slept. “Danika, are you really going to agree to go abroad with Evan?”

If she made that decision, it would be clear that she was giving up on their relationship. Receiving no response, Eustace withdrew his hand. Fortunately, he had collected evidence, and once Danika knew the truth, she wouldn’t be deceived by Evan.

That night, Danika slept well, perhaps because she was drunk. Eustace, on the other hand, hardly slept a wink. He was afraid, terrified of what was about to happen.

Meanwhile, Evan didn’t sleep well that night in the hospital either. Danika didn’t come to take care of him like she did yesterday, and he knew it was because he had brought up going abroad. Knowing that she was having a hard time making a decision, he didn’t call to ask as he could only wait for her to make up her mind.

As sunlight filled the bedroom, Danika opened her eyes and rubbed it.

Taking in the unfamiliar room, she didn’t react for a while. It was then that Eustace walked in and saw that she had already sat up in bed, and walked straight over. “You’re up? Do you feel discomfort anywhere?”

After all, she drank a lot the night before. It was very likely that she would wake up with a hangover.

“No,” Danika answered, shaking her head. “How did I end up here with you?”

“Last night, you got drunk, and Stephanie asked me to send you back.”

He couldn’t possibly send Danika to Evan’s villa, so he naturally brought her back to his own home.

“Oh.”

Danika silently grumbled to herself over the fact that Stephanie didn’t send Danika back when she was drunk but called Eustace over instead.

“Get up. Breakfast is ready,” Eustace said. “Your clothes are in the closet.”

“Okay.” When Danika got up from the bed, she realized she was wearing pajamas.

Looking at Eustace in horror, she asked, Did you change my clothes for me?”

“Mhmm, do you plan on sleeping in clothes that smell like alcohol?” He couldn’t bear to see it, so he changed Danika’s clothes for her.

Danika’s cheeks turned red, and she glared at him. “Still, you shouldn’t have changed my clothes for me.”

“Why are you so shy? I’ve already seen it all.” Eustace raised his eyebrows and reminded her of their intimate exchange.

It embarrassed Danika even more. “Get out. I need to change my clothes.”

That intimate exchange happened because she had acted on impulse, but she didn’t regret it. Smiling, Eustace kept quiet and left, although he enjoyed how shy and bashful Danika was.

After he left the room, Danika opened the wardrobe to discover that it was filled with all sorts of women’s clothing, all of which were new and still had their tags on. For some reason, a warm feeling welled up inside her.

She knew that Eustace prepared all of it. While he didn’t appear that way, he was the most meticulous and thoughtful person she had ever known.

However, Danika’s smile quickly faded at the thought of Evan’s request. How should she tell Eustace about it? If he found out, he would go crazy, wouldn’t he?

You Don’t Know Him Well Enough

After putting on a casual outfit, Danika went downstairs to the dining area where Eustace was sitting.
