“Come and eat,” Eustace said when he saw her, quickly putting down the financial newspaper in his hand and focusing all his attention on Danika.

Danika nodded and asked, “Did you choose all the clothes in the closet?”

“No, I talked to the brand in advance. I had them send over an item of the same style for every clothing item you bought from them,’ Eustace said. He didn’t know Danika’s preferences, but the brands did, so he thought that was the best approach.

Danika nodded. No wonder she found all the clothes in the closet so familiar. They were all the same style as the ones she had bought before.

“Thank you,” Danika said. Apart from that, she didn’t know what to say to Eustace.

Eustace just smiled and got up to serve Danika a bowl of chicken soup. ‘I’m glad you like it.”

As they ate breakfast, Eustace thought about taking Danika to see Trey after they finished. At that moment, Danika was hesitating about how to tell him about going abroad.

Stephanie knew her well, and after their drunken night, she had also come to many realizations. For her, love was far less important than other things, especially since it involved Evan’s future. So she decided to go.

“Eustace,” Danika suddenly said, biting her lip. “I might be going abroad with Evan soon, and I don’t know when I’ll be back.”

Eustace’s hand paused briefly in midair. “Mm, I heard from Stephanie.”

“Oh? Did she tell you?” Danika was surprised by his reaction. She had been worried about telling him, but he already knew.

“Are you sure you want to go?” Eustace asked, looking at her.

Danika nodded solemnly. “Yes, even though the chances of his recovery are not great, I don’t want to give up so easily.”

In her opinion, if Evan could recover, she would finally be free to do what she wanted. So no matter how difficult it was now, she was willing to do everything she could to help him recover.

“I guess you didn’t believe what I told you,” Eustace said with a bitter smile. He didn’t know if he or Danika was the bigger fool.

Danika was stunned for a moment, then understood. “It’s not that I don’t believe you, but I don’t think anyone would fake something like this.”

“Especially not someone like Evan,” she thought.

“That means you don’t know Evan well enough.” Eustace wiped his mouth and handed a stack of documents to Danika.

“I was planning to talk to you after breakfast, but now…I lost my appetite.’ He would never let Danika go abroad with Evan, even if there was no evidence.

Danika eyed the documents suspiciously before putting down the spoon in her hand to take a look. The contents were very simple. Evan’s attending physician had earned extra money through an overseas black market.

Although the money was in the name of his son, who was only in his teens, everyone knew what was going on.

Danika was also shocked, but she remained rational. “What does this mean? II

“You should know how much money doctors at Bardoff Hospital can earn in a month. Don’t you think it’s strange that Evan’s doctor suddenly has so much extra money?” Eustace asked.

Danika fell silent.

Taking You to Meet Someone

Without any hesitation, Eustace continued, “Besides, if the money was obtained through legal means, why would he bother transferring it through the black market? You should know there are hefty transaction fees for transferring money through it.”

Danika understood the implication behind his words. As she looked through the information, she fell into a low mood.

“Do you have any evidence to prove that the money came from Evan?” Danika asked.

Although the source of the money was suspicious, it would be meaningless if Eustace couldn’t provide evidence that the money came from Evan.

Eustace’s face darkened. Obviously, he didn’t have any evidence.

Danika put down the information and turned to him. “Eustace, I know what you’re thinking. You’ve always been suspicious of Evan, but I still believe he isn’t that kind of person.’

If he had done something so deceitful, he wouldn’t be the Evan she knew.

Eustace didn’t elaborate more. Instead, he said, “Let’s eat first. After that, I’ll take you to meet someone.”

“Who are we going to meet?” Danika asked.

“You’ll know when we get there.’ Eustace didn’t plan on telling her immediately. When she met the person, she would know.

Remembering that she forgot to visit Evan the night before, Danika frowned and said, “I need to go to the hospital to see Evan.”

Eustace slammed his fork down on the table.

“Danika, if I can’t prove that all of this is Evan’s conspiracy, then you will have ample time to spend with him abroad. Do you really have to be in such a hurry to see him?”

“I really doubt that you like me, Danika. Tell me, do you like him or me?”

Eustace had wanted to ask that question for a long time. Danika’s concern for Evan was far greater than her concern for him. It was difficult for him to see any affection from her toward him.

Eustace’s words made Danika realize how much she had wronged him. Lowering her head, she explained softly, “But Evan is in his state today because of me…”

“That is assuming whatever happened has nothing to do with him,” Eustace interrupted her.

If Evan had orchestrated everything, then her guilt would be ridiculous. Danika didn’t try to refute that. Well, since Eustace wanted to prove it, she would let him.

The two of them fell into silence, brooding in a tense, gloomy atmosphere for the rest of breakfast, which soon ended. Eustace had woken up early in the morning to buy Danika’s favorite pancakes, but now there were still quite a few left on the table. Clearly, neither of them had any appetite.

“Since we have no appetite to eat, let’s go.” Eustace noticed that Danika couldn’t eat anything, so he didn’t want to waste any more time.

Danika followed him, and they both got into the car. She didn’t ask Eustace where he was taking her. She trusted that he wouldn’t harm her.

After the car had pulled away from Eustace’s house, Danika’s phone rang. Picking up the phone, she noticed that it was a call from Evan. She secretly glanced at Eustace, who was focused on driving and seemed not to have noticed her.

After hesitating for a moment, Danika answered the phone, afraid that something might have happened to Evan.

“Danika, are you busy?’ Evan asked. He sounded rather weak.

Danika became worried as soon as she heard it. “What’s wrong, Evan? Are you feeling unwell?’

“No, I was a bit worried because you didn’t come over last night,” he said.

What Are You Trying to Do Again?

Letting out a sigh of relief, Danika said, “Oh, I had dinner with Stephanie yesterday, so it was too late to go to the hospital.”

“What about now? Are you working at the hospital?” Evan asked.

“No, I have something to do today, so I may come later,” Danika replied. Evan was staying at Bardoff Hospital, so she couldn’t lie to him about being in the hospital.

She didn’t say what exactly she had to do, which made Evan somewhat uneasy. “Don’t worry. If you’re busy, I have Howard to take care of me.

There’s nothing urgent.”

“Okay.”

After the call ended, Evan looked gloomy as he stared at Howard.

“Trey isn’t dead?”

“I’m not sure. I fired a few shots in his direction when I escaped, but I don’t know if I hit him,” Howard said. His head was lowered as he was too afraid to look Evan in the eye. He had been too careless last night and hadn’t expected someone to be ambushed.

Evan stared at him coldly. “Useless!”

“I’m sorry, Boss.” Howard knew he had not done well enough and didn’t dare to argue.

Evan rubbed his temples, feeling increasingly uneasy. “Do you think if Trey finds out I’m the one who ordered his death, he will confess everything to Eustace?”

Howard didn’t say anything, but he felt that that was possible.

“Don’t worry, Boss. I’ll bring some people with me tonight and make sure he doesn’t have a chance to talk.”

This time, he wouldn’t go alone.

Evan sighed. “I’m afraid…it’s too late.”

It was unusual that Danika didn’t show up, which made him wonder if Eustace had told her everything already.

Danika followed Eustace into a villa in the west of Bardoff City. “Did you buy this too?” she asked.

“It belongs to the Quinceys and is used to imprison people.” It looked like a villa on the surface, but it was a dungeon.

Since Eustace was in charge of the Quinceys, he knew everything about it. As Danika listened to him explain, she walked into the living room to see someone sitting there. She looked at Eustace confusedly, failing to understand why he had brought her there.

Eustace asked Danika to sit down before turning to Trey. “Please tell Danika who you are.”

“I’m Trey Ulmer, and Evan is my boss,” Trey said, making an introduction without frills. He knew what Eustace wanted to hear from him.

After a night of reflection, Trey had figured out a lot of things. He had always believed that Evan would come to rescue him, so he had gritted his teeth and refused to speak. Since he was now aware that Evan wouldn’t come, he didn’t plan to wait foolishly.

Since Eustace had promised that as long as he spoke the truth, he would not only let him leave but also give him money, the incentive of speaking the truth was attractive.

Danika frowned at Eustace. “What are you trying to do again?”

Hearing that, Eustace felt uneasy. “Listen to Trey. Let him finish.”

Trey proceeded to tell them how he followed Evan to the country, and his first task was to kidnap Danika with several other colleagues. They were instructed to wait for Evan to come to her rescue.
