With a clang, Eustace threw his plate and cutlery on the table and looked at Danika with reddened eyes.
“Yes! I heard it!” he bellowed exasperatedly.
“So, what do you want to tell me?”
Who’s to Blame
Danika lowered her head and took a while before she finally said, “I’m sorry.”
“Sorry?”
Eustace sneered and wiped the corner of his eye as he said coldly, “No need for that. You and I have nothing to do with each other. Now, you can take care of whomever you want.I have no right to interfere.”
“He saved me…”
“Yes! He saved you! I damn well wish it was me who saved you at that time!”
Even if he had to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, Eustace wished he was the one who saved her.He rarely got angry, especially not in front of Danika, but he couldn’t hold back that day.
Danika had promised to take care of Evan, which basically meant she wouldn’t be able to be with him.He was already preparing to confess his feelings to her, but he didn’t foresee things would turn out that way.
After a long time, Danika regained her composure and raised her head.
“You need to calm down first. It might not stay this way forever.”
They’d already contacted the best doctors.
Perhaps, there was another way.
“I can’t calm down!”
After he said that, Eustace turned and left the ward.
Danika didn’t know that he’d contacted doctors and asked about Evan’s condition. He knew that it was almost impossible to cure him.
Even if they found the best doctor, the chances of curing him were very slim.
Taking care of Evan for the rest of his life was almost a foregone conclusion.
He hated it, but he didn’t know who to blame.
No one was at fault; the only one Eustace could blame was himself.
If he had saved Danika himself at that time…if he hadn’t let her go to work that morning…
Eustace had never been as sad as he was now.
Even when he watched his mother die in front of him, he didn’t shed a tear.
But now, he was really downhearted.
When Vincent got a call from Danika, he was stunned and froze right where he was.
“Miss Zellweger, are you saying you want me to check on Mr.Quincey? Did something happen?”
Vincent didn’t understand why she needed him to go and watch over Eustace since they were almost always together.
Danika didn’t know how to explain the situation to him.
“We had a disagreement, and he left. Please go and check on him.”
After Danika ended the call, she got up to handle her discharge procedures.
Vincent looked at the phone in his hand, feeling utterly confused.
“Could Mr.Quincey really have a disagreement with Miss Zellweger?” he wondered.
He then answered his question internally, thinking it wasn’t likely.
From what he knew, Eustace would do anything for Danika.
So how could they have a disagreement? Although puzzled, Vincent put away his phone and prepared to go and find Eustace.
At the bar, Paul watched as Eustace lifted his glass and drank one glass after another as if he were drinking his sorrows and life away.
Paul felt a headache coming on as he watched Eustace drink.
After he came to Bardoff City for so long, this was the first time Eustace had invited him to drink.
He didn’t expect the situation to be so serious.
“Come on, man.What happened?”
Paul grabbed Eustace’s glass, not letting him drink anymore.
If he kept drinking like that, his body wouldn’t be able to withstand it.
Eustace leaned back on the sofa and laughed lethargically.
“What could happen? I just wanted to drink with you for a bit. Why? Even you don’t want to keep me company now?”
Paul was speechless.
In no way could he agree with Eustace that he was just “drinking for a bit.”
“Does this have something to do with Danika?”
Other than Danika, he couldn’t think of anything else to make Eustace drink so much.
Eustace didn’t say anything, but a hint of pain flashed in his eyes when he heard Paul mention Danika’s name.
“Sure enough, he’s like this because of Danika,” Paul thought.
He then sighed.
“Did you fight with her?”
Eustace didn’t speak and lifted his glass to down another drink
Don’t Be Fooled by Evan
When Vincent rushed to the bar, Paul was desperately trying to stop Eustace from drinking.
Pushing open the door to the private room, Vincent was a little stunned to see the scene before him.
“My.Quincey, are you okay?” Vincent asked.
Both of them turned to look at him when they heard his voice.
“What could be wrong with me?” Eustace replied.
“Miss Zellweger called me and said you had a disagreement with her.She was worried about you,” Vincent said.
Eustace sneered at his words and finally stopped trying to grab the wine glass from Paul.
“Worried about me? Does she think I’ll die because of her or something?”
Vincent felt awkward as he thought, “Isn’t that what you’re doing now?”
Paul sensed something was off and asked Vincent, “What’s going one”
Vincent looked bewildered and shook his head.
“I don’t know either.Miss Zellweger suddenly called me.”
Paul pondered what was going on and continued asking, “Did something happen?”
He asked Vincent in detail about what had happened in the past two days and found out that Danika was kidnapped yesterday and was rescued by Evan.
He also learned that Evan might need to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
After learning about what happened, Paul could guess what had transpired.
“Did you argue with Danika because of Evan’s injury?”
“Why?” Eustace asked.
Then, he went on, “It’s nothing. It’s just that Danika promised to take care of him for the rest of his life.Once those words were said, both Paul and Vincent were stunned. They finally knew the reason for his sudden excessive drinking.
“My goodness…Miss Zellweger is such a benevolent person,” Vincent praised from the bottom of his heart.
As soon as he said that, Eustace gave him a disdainful look.
With that, he quickly added, “But it’s too ridiculous! How could she promise to care for him for the rest of his life just because he saved her?”
“I think Evan was using this incident to put Danika on the spot.In that situation, Danika had no choice but to agree. She must have wanted to refuse in her heart,” Paul analyzed.
Eustace thought Paul’s analysis made sense.
