“You’re right.Evan isn’t a good person.”
If it were him, he would never ask Danika to care for him for the rest of his life.He would only hope she would find her happiness and stay far away from him.
How could he ask her to stay by his side and spend the rest of her life so miserably?
“Paul’s right, Mr.Quincey.Don’t be fooled by Evan.He’s deliberately trying to drive a wedge between you and Miss Zellweger so that he can come between you both,” Vincent said.
Eustace nodded in agreement.
“You’re right.” As he said that, he stood up.
“You guys carry on.I’m leaving.”
“Where are you going, Mr.Quincey?” Vincent asked, feeling worried and wanting to follow him.
Eustace turned his head and glanced at him discontentedly as he said, “Of course, I’m going back to the hospital.I’m not giving them any chances to keep spending time together.”
He wouldn’t let Evan get what he wanted.
“Oh, right.Okay, okay.”
Vincent nodded in agreement and added, “Be careful on your way.”
With that said, Eustace left the private room, leaving only Vincent and Paul staring at each other in silence.
They didn’t have much to talk about.
“Well, Mr.Wagner, I’ll be leaving now,” Vincent said with a dry smile.
“Sure.Do keep watch over Eustace.Who knows what he might do later, “Paul suggested.
Although their analysis just now made a lot of sense, there was no changing what had already happened.
Danika still had to stay with Evan to take care of him, and Eustace probably wouldn’t be able to accept that fact.
“Okay, got it.”
Vincent nodded and left.
Paul looked at the empty private room and couldn’t help but smile bitterly.He was the only one left in the end.
Raising his head and downing the glass of wine he held back from Eustace, Paul got up and left as well.He had no plans to stay there and drink alone in misery.
No Way!
When Eustace returned to the hospital, he found out that Danika had already completed her discharge procedures; her ward was empty.He went straight to the ward where Evan was located, and as he had expected, Danika was there.
However, besides Danika and Evan, Gilbert was there too.
He had probably come to visit because he had heard about Evan’s situation.
Eustace didn’t go in and sat on a bench outside the door.He didn’t know what he could do at the moment, but he couldn’t just sit back and do nothing either.
It made him feel a bit frustrated.
Inside the ward, Gilbert looked at Evan with a complicated expression and said, “Don’t be too disheartened.There must be another solution.”
“Yeah,” Evan responded with little emotion.
“Regardless of what happens, you saved Danika.If you really have to spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair, we will take responsibility for it,” Gilbert said.
Evan frowned and looked at Gilbert before saying, “Okay, I understand.”
He didn’t need Gilbert to take responsibility; having Danika take care of him was enough.
After a few more words of advice, Gilbert exited the ward and saw Eustace at the door.
“What are you doing here?” Gilbert asked coldly.
He was never friendly whenever he had to talk to Eustace.Eustace looked up at him and smiled.
“Waiting for Danika.What else can I do?”
“Why aren’t you dealing with the mess within the Quinceys instead? Danika doesn’t need you to wait for her,” Gilbert said disdainfully.
During this time, he hadn’t pressured Danika to get together with Evan anymore, so he’d kind of implicitly accepted Eustace to be Danika’s life partner.
But he didn’t expect Eustace to fail to protect Danika and nearly cause her to get hurt.
Eustace didn’t mind Gilbert’s cold tone as he simply said, “I know she’s busy taking care of Evan and doesn’t have time to pay attention to me.There’s no need for you to remind me.”
“Evan was injured because of her.Shouldn’t she take care of him?”
Gilbert could see that Eustace was greatly dismayed at the situation.
However, he felt that Eustace didn’t have the right to do so since he failed to protect Danika, so everything that was happening was his own fault.”Didn’t Danika tell you? Evan asked her not to leave him for the rest of her life.Wouldn’t this mean she had to stay and take care of him for the rest of her life?”
Eustace sneered.
He really couldn’t understand how Evan could ask that of Danika.
Upon hearing that, Gilbert’s expression instantly became grim.
“No way!”
He knew that Evan had a crush on Danika, but he never expected Evan to ask Danika to stay and take care of him.
Wasn’t he taking advantage of the situation by doing that? Eustace had a cold smirk on his face and didn’t say anything.
“I’ll get to the bottom of this.Danika is my sister, and I won’t let her suffer,” Gilbert said coolly.
He turned around and walked back into the ward.
Soon, Eustace heard the sound of an argument coming from inside.He could hear Danika and Gilbert arguing.
Clearly, she was unhappy about Gilbert questioning Evan for making that request.
Eustace just listened and didn’t leave or try to go in.
He wanted to know if Danika was willing to stay and take care of Evan or if she was forced to do so.
After a while, Gilbert pulled Danika out of the ward.
Upon noticing Eustace at the door, her expression turned grim.
“Did you tell Gilbert about it?” she asked.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
“Yes.Are you blaming me right now?”
Eustace wanted to laugh, but he couldn’t.It hadn’t been long since all of it happened.
Was Danika protecting Evan just because he was injured? Danika opened her mouth but ultimately didn’t say anything.
Instead, she looked at Gilbert and said, “Evan has just woken up.
Why are you talking to him like that? What if something happens to him because of how you talked to him—“
“Just because he saved you, he thinks he can make such an unreasonable demand now?”
Gilbert regretted bringing Evan back in the first place.But then, he thought that if Evan hadn’t been there, then Danika would have been the one who got hurt yesterday.
That was not the outcome he wanted to see either.
Danika sighed.”Gilbert, Evan didn’t ask anything of me. I volunteered.”
“Liar.I heard him make the request.”
Eustace spoke up from the side.
If Evan didn’t make such a request? As soon as he finished speaking, Danika glared at him and said, “Can’t you keep your mouth shut?”
Eustace pursed his lips and didn’t say anything else.
He continued to sit there and didn’t leave.
“Danika, I know you’re grateful to him and want to repay him, but we can find other ways to do it.Even if I have to support him for the rest of his life, I won’t let you sacrifice your happiness.”
Gilbert tried his best to persuade Danika.But Danika shook her head and said, “Gilbert, I understand what you mean, but Evan ended up like this because of me. Even if we can provide him with a life of material comfort, we can’t make him feel better emotionally.”
She knew that Evan liked her and understood why he asked her to stay by his side.It was simply to make himself feel better.She knew such a request was unreasonable and could refuse it, but she couldn’t bring herself to do so.
“Heh, you still care about his feelings? What a good doctor you are, Dr.Zellweger,” Eustace mocked her intentionally, thinking that she cared too much.
Danika rolled her eyes at him and couldn’t be bothered to respond.
“Danika, if he really can’t get up from the wheelchair for the rest of his life, you’ll have to take care of him for the rest of your life.Then your own life will be ruined!”
