they both stated, and then Callum held up the piece of paper. It was a picture of Marrin, she was sitting on that bench seat taking a selfie of herself, with a full ocean view behind her, a full smile on her face.
Marilyn frowned at it. She didn’t recall printing that, though it was a good photo, and anyone could see it was clearly a younger version of herself,
“Where’d you get that from?”
Vincent asked her.
“I found some old photos on the cloud today.”
She shrugged it off; it technically was the truth.
“I guess it’s from before you two were born.”
They were both staring at her now, full of curiosity, and she just knew they were wondering if she’d come across any photos of her with their dad. She had but.. It wasn’t a real marriage, and with her conflicting emotions over how she felt and what she’d seen, she didn’t know what to tell them right that minute.
“T’ll print some out tonight and show you tomorrow If you want.”
She stated, and they both looked back at the picture and nodded slowly. But they said nothing about the man they were curious about. She wondered if that was because of who they thought he was or because she’d told them he’d injured her. Knew she didn’t want to talk about it.
“Do you remember it?”
Callum asked after a moment.
“No.”
she shook her head, and she didn’t.
“Now I heard you have a new joke for me,”
she asked, knowing it would distract them easily.
Their curiosity with the photo shifted nearly Instantly, and two happy little faces looked up at her and both her boys smiled at her the way they always did.
“What type of bear is toothless?”
Vincent asked her, and she frowned for a minute as she thought about it.
“A gummy bear.”
Callum burst out as he ran to the pantry and pulled out a bag of gummy bears and waved it at her.
She snorted and shook her head,
“What is a door when it’s not a door?”
she asked right back and saw them think about it as she walked to the pantry herself.
“it’s ajar.”
She chuckled as she closed the pantry door, that
Callum had left ajar. And they both laughed
“good one mum.”
She took the photo from Vincent.
“I got one more,”
she turned the photo to them.
“What did the ocean say to the bench?”
She waved the photo at them, and they shook their heads.
“Nothing, it just waved.”
She smiled and they both laughed at the joke.
Calvin
He plucked that bill he’d brought to Wil, right out of Wil’s hand, because he now knew that Wil was actively trying to stop him from knowing just how often he was holding secret meetings with Marilyn. It had been the reason he’d brought it in here to see just what was going on with his friend where Marilyn was concerned. The annoyed look on Wil’s face as Calvin left his office with that bill, to make his way to accounting said it all. Wil was definitely keeping something from him, and he was betting on it being that Wil had probably seen the twins in that last meeting and made the connection and was now trying to get the proof.
Hence, there being new meetings, and he’d likely tried to keep it a secret, but that bill landing on his desk, that had told Wil the company account was going to be forwarding them to Calvin. So he’d mentioned there would be more meetings to come was all.
He was doing it all behind Calvin’s back, in case there was nothing to share. He could actually understand why Wil was trying to keep things from him. He was trying to keep Calvin’s obsession at bay and keep him away from Marilyn and the children. He’d just voiced, he’d harmed them, a full reminder to Calvin of his actions against the woman. Had likely done it on purpose to remind him to stay away from her even.
He would let it go if that was the case, because it was likely Wil was also trying to help him. Calvin strolled into accounting and greeted his accountant,
“Morning Sally”
He smiled at her.
