Filed to story: The Alpha Kings Hated Slave
“Yes, Master.” Her heart was still racing as she faced the door again.
“And Danika?”
She turned again. “Yes, Master.”
“Just for the evening, I will be your ‘king’ and not your ‘master’.”
She couldn’t believe she heard him right. But she did. Tears clouded her eyes then. This evening, she would not be his slave. She would be one of his people. He was allowing her to be one of his people.
Suddenly, she remembered the first day he visited her in her cell after he’d enslaved her. She’d called him ‘my king’ and he had punished her for it. He was so angry, his eyes filled with loathing.
“I am your master. I can never be your king, Slave! I am a king to my people. Never to you!” he had snarled at her in rage.
Today, he was giving her permission to be one of his people, just for the evening.
“Thank you, Master.” She bowed her head, her heart feeling light.
“You can go now.”
Karandy was most surprised when he opened his door to see the royal mistress standing at his door.
“Mistress,” he greeted with his head bowed. What was the mistress doing there?
“You are the former slave trainer of the mine downtown; you are Karandy. Am I right?” she asked.
“Yes, Mistress.” Karandy couldn’t stop wondering why the royal mistress was there in his place.
“Then let me in,” she stated. Already, she walked past him, entering the small house, leaving him to follow..
The whole court stood up when King Lucien entered-except the other kings who attended.
King Philip. King Valendy. King Moreh. King George.
The four kings sat watching observingly from their seats. They must have been as surprised as Danika was, standing right there in the middle of the court. She did not know why she was in court today. It filled her with dread to think about it.
She didn’t want to be here. This royal court was a place she didn’t want to stand upon again because that place meant one thing to her: her humiliation.
King Lucien took his stand at the front of the courtroom. “I call upon Slave Danika.”
Danika’s heart skipped three beats. Doing her best to stay calm, she clouded her expression and walked out. She stood in the middle of the court. She hated the eyes of people on her. She would not raise her head to know how calculating, assessing, and lustful their gazes were.
“We have gathered here today for an important event,” the king announced.
“It has to be important for us to be summoned from our various kingdoms for it,” King Moreh injected reasonably.
The other kings nodded.
Danika folded her hands nervously to her front, and tears brimmed her eyes. Not knowing why she was standing there threatened to overwhelm her with fear.
Then King Lucien walked away from his position. The guards lifted the giant spears that separated the throne and the people, giving him passage to walk through. He walked through the aisle and stood in front of her. His eyes finally looked at her. Then he raised his hand to her neck and removed her collar. As he did so, he raised his voice.
“With the power vested in me as the king of Salem and Mombana, as the master of this slave standing before us all, I remove your collar. And from today onward, you are no longer a…”….
The king took two steady steps towards Danika. Before Baski could comprehend what his next actions would be, the king raised his hand.
Baski didn’t think. She had no time to think.
“No, please! Not the collar! She’s pregnant! Not the collar. She’s pregnant!” Baski screamed instinctively.
But it was too late.
It was too late the minute they opened the storeroom door and stepped into this place.
It was too late, for he did it before she could get the words out. The king put his finger on the red button of the collar on Danika’s neck…and pressed it. Twice. At the same time.
The shock from the collar that went through Danika’s body was unspeakable. The pain was so excruciating she couldn’t scream. Her legs turned to water, and she fell, convulsing repeatedly. Soft pitiful whimpers left her mouth.
The king snapped his head towards Baski, eyes so chilly they looked like they were made of blue frost, pinned hers. “What did you just say to me?”
Baski closed her eyes helplessly.
The king wasn’t supposed to find out this way. Heavens, this is so much of a disaster!
“Baski.” His voice sounded low and deadly; it sent a chill down her spine. “I will not ask this again.”
“She is p-pregnant,” she pushed out, forcing herself to open her eyes and peer at him. “Danika is c-carrying your child, my king.”
He flinched as if she had just slapped him. A tense silence followed. Then he lowered his head, closed his eyes, and hunched his shoulders.
The sight broke Baski’s heart. He looked absolutely defeated, like a man who had just lost all hope. Like the world has come to an end.
He did not believe.
Only the sound of Danika’s pained whimpers filled the air.
Baski searched frantically for a way to make him understand. She reached for him. “I-I know wh-what the healers s-said, and I know what we just s-saw here, but you have to believe me. Danika is carrying your child!”
More silence. More dread filled her system.
