When they reached the shore, Patrick vowed to hand over the company to Miles. Otherwise, he would lose his temper completely.
The next card belonged to Casey and Kelvin. Without hesitation, Casey wrote down “Red wine braised beef brisket”.
Of course, Casey wasn’t just thinking about her own appetite – she was also considerate of Aimee’s workload. Kelvin’s cooking skills were excellent too; this way they could ask him for help and lighten Aimee’s load.
Patrick looked at Casey with a sense of satisfaction and said, “Casey, you’re always so thoughtful.”
But little did he know that the next card would cause him great distress: it belonged to Eden and Minnie and read “Red wine braised beef brisket”.
When Patrick gritted his teeth and uttered the same five words, the air seemed to solidify, plunging into a dead silence.
All eyes turned towards Eden, and Ben said, “You’re really something. You never disappoint us.”
Eden was speechless.
He raised his hand and touched his nose, feeling powerless to argue.
Actually, Minnie intended to write about steamed seafood, but Eden thought that since they were on the sea, someone else must have written about this dish. As a passionate beef lover, he didn’t expect to fall for it so easily.
Casey was completely speechless. Since she was young, she had always felt that she and Eden were incompatible, perhaps even enemies from a past life.
Now, this idea jumped back into her mind again.
Casey felt that if she and Eden were the only ones left in the world, she would definitely find a way to kill him.
Eden said, “It’s my fault. I admit it.”
He was quite happy about it.
However, Patrick didn’t think it really mattered.
Originally, this dish was supposed to be made by Kelvin and he really wanted to eat it.
Now it was even better when it was just wiped out, and Patrick was the happiest one.
Next up, they had Beata and Yael. Beata was not shy at all and went straight for the three-way lobster dish, specifying her preferred flavor.
The next and final one was for Damion and Ivy.
Ivy originally just wanted to order a salad, but Damion said there was no need and that she should order what she really wanted to eat.
Ivy thought for a while and finally ordered lamb curry.
After all the dishes were ordered, everyone’s gaze once again turned towards Eden in unison.
How come he made such a blunder? It was simply beyond reason.
The dishes were ready. Aimee got up and went to the kitchen to see if there were any missing ingredients. Of course, some ingredients that required more time also needed to be prepared in advance.
Patrick hugged Aimee from behind and said, “You’ve worked hard, babe.”
Aimee said, “It’s just a small thing. I haven’t cooked for a long time. Actually, I wanna do it.”
Patrick kissed Aimee’s ear and said, “After we go back, don’t rush to the hospital, okay?”
He really wanted to be with Aimee all the time. If Aimee were to go back to the hospital, she would put the patient first. She had surgery day and night, so he wouldn’t be able to see her every day.
Aimee knew that Patrick was clingy, and she liked his being clingy.
“I promise you, when we get back, I’ll cut the surgery number in half, okay?” Aimee said.
Before, she was a little excited because she had been away from the operating table for too long. Plus, those difficult cases made her very excited. So for a moment, she forgot herself and took over the operation.
Now that the excitement had passed, Aimee also knew what her focus should be on. She wanted to spend more time with Patrick.
Patrick said, “Good! Then I won’t have to work so hard to get you pregnant.”
Aimee was actually a little curious when she heard this and asked, “Don’t you want another child?”
She didn’t really have any thoughts before about having another child but recently they’d been talking about it more often and it suddenly piqued her interest.
Anyway they can afford it and there was no reason why she couldn’t give birth if Patrick wanted to.
Patrick didn’t have many thoughts about having children. If he and Aimee only had one child, he might consider having another one so that the two children could grow up together without feeling lonely.
Patrick himself had three siblings, and although they sometimes fought, they were still very happy because they supported each other.
However, since Patrick and Aimee had twins as their firstborns, the two children already had each other to keep them company. Therefore, Patrick was not very interested in having a second or third child.
But now Aimee frequently brought up the topic of having more children which made Patrick wonder if she really wanted to have more kids. He asked her directly instead of guessing her thoughts.
Aimee paused from what she was doing and honestly said, “I don’t really want to have more kids. I grew up in the Read family with sisters but it didn’t make much difference to me personally. Mikayla is nice to me but that’s because she’s a good person. If she didn’t like me, then it wouldn’t matter whether I had sisters or not.”
She continued by saying that she didn’t believe siblings necessarily brought happiness nor did their absence cause unhappiness. Besides Ridge and Rosemary who were already siblings with each other, there wasn’t any need for them to force anything on their own children.
Patrick agreed with Aimee’s perspective, “Let’s just let things happen naturally. If we end up having another child then great; otherwise we won’t force it.”
Aimee admitted that part of her reason for bringing this topic up was just an excuse for her to come back home from work early.
Although Aimee promised Patrick that when they went on vacation next time around, she will reduce her workload by half, but deep down inside herself, she knew this promise will be hard for her keep, since once patients came under her care, there was no way out until everything was sresolved completely.
This wasn’t fair towards Patrick who wanted nothing else than spending time with his wife whom he loved dearly without being put aside due to work commitments all the time.
So after they thought about it some more, one solution came into mind ??getting pregnant would help take away some of Aimee’s focus from surgery tables so that both can spend quality time together as a family unit instead!
So, she would willingly be managed by Patrick.
It had to be said that Patrick was also moved.
Patrick said, “If you say so, I’ll really try.”
Aimee chuckled and then said, “Why don’t we ask Ridge and Rosemary what they think? Let’s see if they want a little brother or sister.”
Patrick replied, “I’m actually quite worried. If we have another Ridge-like child, what am I going to do?”
Aimee laughed out loud and looked at Patrick with sympathy. She said, “Well then you’ll just have to accept your fate. It means you don’t have any charisma among the children.”
It was strange to say that because of his personality traits, Ridge was cold towards everyone. But even Perla and Brandon weren’t close with Patrick.
If anyone were asked which child was closest to Patrick among them all, no one would guess it would be Mia.
The key was that Mia wasn’t as close with Ben as she was with Patrick.
Of course, this only exacerbated Ridge’s coldness towards him.
Because when Mia faced Ridge, she didn’t always smile but when she was around Patrick, she can hardly stop laughing.
Patrick and Aimee decided to ask Ridge and Rosemary what they thought. When they got back to the room, they called the two little ones over and had them sit down.
Rosemary couldn’t sit still, fidgeting around like she was completely restless.
Ridge, on the other hand, sat still waiting for Aimee and Patrick to speak up.
Patrick adjusted his demeanor and asked seriously, “Ridge, Rosemary, Mommy and Daddy have something important to ask you. We need you guys to make a decision.”
Ridge looked at Patrick skeptically not knowing why he suddenly became so serious.
Rosemary finally realized what was going on. She rarely ever sat quietly but now she blinked her eyes without moving them from Patrick’s face.
Patrick said, “Your mom and I are thinking about having another baby brother or sister for you guys. What do you think? Do you want one?”
Rosemary immediately raised her hand in response, “I want a little sister!”
After some thought, Ridge said, “I want a little brother!”
This situation caught both Aimee’s and Patrick’s attention off guard. Children these days had very strong possessiveness; there were countless news reports of older siblings experiencing emotional breakdowns when their family suddenly had another child resulting in many tragedies.
Although neither Patrick nor Aimee believed that Ridge or Rosemary would experience such problems, their unanimous desire for another sibling was unexpected nonetheless.
However, what followed made both Patrick and Aimee headache-inducing moments. When Rosemary heard Ridge say he wanted a younger brother, she glared at him, directly shouting loudly, “I! Want! Little! Sister!”
Usually Ridge didn’t argue with Rosemary about anything, but this time he insisted firmly on his position regarding this matter.
“I! Want! Little Brother!” He said seriously while looking at Rosemary intently.
Rosemary had always been indulged by Ridge; most of the time as long as she persisted enough times, then he would give up arguing with her, which naturally led it becoming her victory every time.
But who would have thought that today of all days that Ridge would be so determined without any intention of giving in?
Rosemary widened her eyes not believing what she just heard -she couldn’t believe her ears!
It took quite some time before Rosemary regained control over herself again, speaking even louder than before saying,
“I! Want! Little Sister!”
Ridge’s voice didn’t raise, but he spoke with a firmer tone as he told Rosemary, “I! Want! Little Brother!”
Neither of them acted like children throwing a tantrum or resorted to physical violence. However, this stalemate didn’t make things any better.
Aimee and Patrick leaned against the couch, not planning to get involved in this battle. They believed that Ridge and Rosemary should solve their own problems.
Adults getting involved would only make things worse. People tend to side with the weaker party, and often times adults don’t fully understand the situation at hand. Even if they hear both sides of the story clearly, their judgment can still be biased.
This usually results in one party feeling wronged. Even if someone could be completely fair and just in their decision-making process, how can they determine what is absolutely correct?
So they let them handle it on their own terms as long as they didn’t hurt each other physically or verbally.
The two children were almost four years old now and had grown accustomed to handling conflicts this way. But this problem was obviously more difficult than anything they had dealt with before; neither of them made any progress beyond firmly stating their choices to each other.
Patrick and Aimee watched as Ridge and Rosemary argued for long. Both of them had headaches from the argument, and the two little ones had even lost their voices, but in the end, no one emerged victorious.
However, what made Patrick and Aimee relieved was that neither child threw a tantrum or acted out. Especially Rosemary – she always seemed to be on the winning side of things and was used to Ridge giving in to her demands without any effort on her part.
But because of this, she also knew that Ridge’s indulgence wasn’t something she could take for granted. So this time around, when Ridge didn’t give in to her demands, Rosemary wasn’t upset. Her mind was working overtime trying to figure out what she really wanted.
