Meanwhile at Gaya Beach, Damian, who was covered in injuries was seen laying on the ground. Some of his wounds had been showing signs of healing, but being treated roughly had caused them to secrete pus. Fresh wounds in inconspicuous places were oozing blood.
Nyla clicked her tongue as she looked at Damian who lay motionless on the ground. “You little brat, why can’t you take a beating?” Damian barely opened his eyes at the sound of her voice, but even the slightest movement of his mouth caused pain.
He already had cuts and bruises. On top of that, being forcefully dragged here without any mercy and being beaten by Nyla had left him weak and powerless. “You…”
He tried to say something, but perhaps it was his sad gaze that agitated Nyla that made her approach him and squat down in front of him before lifting his chin with her hand. “What’s wrong? Little brat? Do you still want to say something?”
“You’re crazy.” Although Damian was in great pain, he didn’t shed tears. Instead, he stared coldly at the woman in front of him who was acting tyrannical.
Nyla burst into maniacal laughter. “I’m crazy? What makes you say that?” After saying this, she stood up, raised her foot, and viciously kicked him. The sharp heel of her high-heeled shoe cut through his skin which made Damian cry out in pain. Tears started streaming down his face, and the sand was stained with tear tracks.
“This is the consequence of opposing me, little boy.” Nyla bent down and smiled contemptuously. “You probably don’t recognize me, right? You can’t even recognize me despite living with Slevin for so long.”
There was sadness in Nyla’s eyes at the mention of Slevin. “I was abroad for six years, and your mother, burdened with you, took advantage of the situation and wanted to marry into Damazio Family. Little brat, do you think your mother stood a chance?”
Although Damian didn’t fully understand what she was trying to say, he could grasp the relationship between her and Slevin from her crazy laughter. Suppressing his fear, he responded, “My mom never liked him, and she never had any intentions of marrying him.”
Hearing his words, there was a brief hint of joy on Nyla’s face. Following that, she looked down suspiciously and said, “Little brat, don’t come up with lies just to make me spare you. Everyone knows that you all have spent over four years together. Your mother has always been by Slevin’s side, and most importantly, Slevin even proposed to her in public.” Nyla still remembered seeing that news in the newspaper. When she saw it, she almost went crazy since the topic was ‘Damin Group’s CEO Slevin Damazio Proposes to an Employee on Gaya Beach. It Is Said That The Two Had a Secret Relationship’.
It was truly laughable. If it weren’t for Slevin’s public proposal, the pictures of which were taken by the reporters and published in the news, she would still be kept in the dark. She couldn’t accept it and would never allow Slevin to fall in love with another woman.
Six years ago, she was eighteen. She undressed in the room and lay on Slevin’s bed, waiting for him to return. She had intended to thank him for finding her and taking care of her all those years, and to tell him that she had decided to be with him for the rest of her life. She willingly wanted to become his woman, but she never expected Slevin to rain on her parade as soon as he entered the room.
Not only did Slevin have no feelings for her, but he even asked her with disdain, “Do you have any shame?” She instantly felt a deep sense of humiliation and hastily put on her clothes with tears streaming down her cheeks. She even took a flight to a foreign country the next day. Outwardly, she said she was going abroad to study, but only she knew that it was just an excuse to escape from him.
Unfortunately, while abroad, she couldn’t go a day without thinking of him. Slevin would send her money every month, which provided her with some consolation. At least it proved that he still cared about her, his sister, but she still didn’t have the courage to return. It wasn’t until a few days ago that she saw that news in the newspaper. After just a glance, she immediately booked a plane ticket and rushed back overnight.
She didn’t expect to encounter such an interesting little fellow in the basement. According to the butler, he was the son of that vixen so she wouldn’t let him off easily. As the flashbacks came to an end, Nyla looked at Damian, who was covered in injuries, and for some reason, she felt a sick sense of satisfaction.
Seeing this poor child, she could think of her past self-lowly, despicable, and at the mercy of others. Why should she be the only one to endure this torment? She wanted others to taste the same bitterness. It was really amusing.
Nyla felt a sense of joy and satisfaction, and no fear at all. What kind of storm could that tramp stir up when she was still dependent on Slevin? Slevin… How could he possibly harm his own sister?
With confidence, Nyla noticed that Damian seemed to be glaring at her, and her temper flared. She picked up a round stone from the ground and ruthlessly threw it at his face. “What are you glaring at?”
The stone hit his eyebrow, and Damian let out a painful cry. “Ahh!” The area where the stone hit immediately swelled up, causing it to bruise.
“Does it hurt? Stop pretending! When I was beaten and tormented by a group of people on the street, it was a thousand times worse than what you’re feeling now!”
Seeing Damian’s pitiful appearance displeased Nyla. He has no right to pretend to be so pitiful. Back then, she had been beaten by so many people, yet she didn’t make a sound. He had only been hit by a stone, so why was he crying like this? It’s all fake!
With that thought in mind, Nyla turned around and picked up a stick from the side. She had originally wanted to teach him a lesson, but when she raised the stick, a furious roar came from behind her. “Nyla, what are you doing?”
Upon hearing that familiar voice, she trembled in fear, and the stick in her hand fell to the ground. Nyla turned around and looked at the person she had been longing for. “Slevin, I’m back.” Her voice trembled.
Nyla hadn’t expected that the person in front of her would be so harsh toward her because of that little boy who was unrelated to them. She leaned toward him while feeling wronged.
However, Slevin clearly had no mood to reminisce with her at this moment. Seeing her approaching, he suddenly reached out and pushed her, causing Nyla to fall to the ground. Nyla couldn’t believe it as she lifted her head. “Slevin, you actually pushed me. You’ve never treated me like this before.”
“Yes, I’ve never thought that the little sister I painstakingly raised would turn out like this.” Slevin was greatly disappointed in the girl in front of him, who seemed familiar but was now a complete stranger.
“Slevin, I haven’t changed. I’m still the same as before…”
Before she could express how much she liked him, Slevin realized what she was about to say and immediately interrupted her. “Don’t mention the past. I’ve already forgotten all about it, and I hope you can do the same.”
Nyla struggled to get up from the ground and let out a miserable laugh. “So, you don’t want to be with me just because I’m a simple little girl? I’m pitiful and insignificant, so you look down on me, is that it?”
Slevin furrowed his brow. He hadn’t expected Nyla to have such thoughts. “I don’t want to be with you simply because I’ve never liked you. Love is not something I can control, so why should I be obliged to be with you?”
“It’s impossible. You not being with me must be because you think I’m not good enough, but I don’t understand why you would like a woman like her. She looks so much older and even has a child. At the very least, I’m young, so why are you reluctant to even look at me?” Nyla shook her head frantically.
Listening to her words, Slevin coldly interrupted, “Nyla, I hope you won’t speak so disrespectfully about her.”
Nyla’s voice trembled as she spoke, her emotions bordering on madness. “You’re defending her and accusing me. Slevin, remember that I am your sister, while she is merely a stranger with no connection to you!”
“I like her.”
Nyla shook her head frantically. “No, I don’t believe it. I absolutely don’t believe that you could like her.”
Slevin watched Nyla’s strange behavior and asked, “Nyla, what’s wrong with you?” Elspeth looked at the scene before her and her heart was filled with rage.
She hadn’t expected that her beloved son, whom she cherished and raised, would suffer like this, and the instigator of it all was the woman in front of her. She rushed forward, picked up Damian from the ground, and gently touched his face before asking with concern, “Damian, how are you? Does it still hurt?”
Damian opened his eyes and burst into tears when he saw the familiar face before him. “Mom, I missed you so much. I was so scared when that woman kept bullying me. She threw stones at me and kicked me…”
With each word he spoke, Elspeth’s heart ached more. Finally, the pain turned into an endless hatred toward Nyla. Elspeth took off her coat and wrapped Damian in it. She coaxed him and asked him to sit on the ground. Then, she turned around and looked at the woman who had already gone insane. “Nyla, aren’t you afraid of karma for what you’ve done to my son?”
Nyla showed great disdain toward the woman in front of her. In her eyes, she was just a woman who was incapable of stirring up waves. “Why should I be afraid? You and your son came to the Damazio Family because you covet our wealth, right? What I’m doing is just carrying out justice and punishing you. Why should I fear karma?”
Elspeth let out a cold smile and a deep hatred for Nyla filled her eyes. “Nyla, I’ve never truly hated anyone before, but what you’ve done today has made it impossible for me to forgive you. Even if you have depression, I will make you pay for it!”
As soon as she finished speaking, Elspeth walked up to Nyla and slapped her across the face while she was distracted. “I’m slapping you on behalf of my son.” Elspeth put all her strength into that slap, and with her remarkable skills, it caused Nyla’s vision to turn blurry from the impact.
“How dare you hit me? Just wait until I tear you apart!” Nyla, who was now far from the quiet and shy girl she used to be, acted like a total shrew.
Slevin couldn’t bear to watch any longer after seeing how Nyla acted. He glared at her with bloodshot eyes and chided, “Nyla, look at yourself now. Do you even recognize who you’ve become?”
Nyla, who had just been lunging at Elspeth, froze upon hearing his words. She maintained a strange and stiff posture. “Slevin, what do you mean by that? Are you rejecting me?”
“It’s not just rejection. I wish I never had a sister like you.” Slevin was deeply disappointed. The Nyla he remembered was always respectful and cautious and someone who always followed him around. The girl in front of him now, though seemingly familiar, had lost all her innocence and cuteness.
“Slevin, are you abandoning me?” Nyla never imagined that things would come to this point. She hadn’t done anything wrong. All she did was bully a little boy. When she was bullied, those people didn’t receive the punishment they deserved so she couldn’t understand why she was now facing abandonment.
Nyla took a deep breath but still couldn’t figure it out even after much thought. In the end, she could only direct her malicious gaze toward the mother and son duo. “Is it because of them? Is it because they hold such a significant place in your heart that you dislike me? If they don’t exist anymore, would you start liking me again?”
“It was never like that,” Slevin said, taking a deep breath. “I only have one sister, and that is the kind- hearted and innocent little girl I found by the corner of the street.”
To his surprise, Nyla burst out laughing when she heard that. “Kind? Innocent? Why would you think that is me, Slevin? Even though I looked unaffected by all the bullying, which was all to avoid being pestered by them, I swore deep down I’d have revenge the moment I was strong enough. I will kill them all and make them pay for every wound I suffered.
“Slevin, I have not been innocent and kind for a very long time. Just as I thought my life would end in misery, you suddenly appeared by my side. You chased them away with your harsh words, then brought me to a home that was like a castle. How could I not fall in love with you?
“I thought you felt something for me. After all, I’m quite pretty. I never thought that you would call me shameless when I finally mustered up the courage to confess my love to you. My mind has been twisted from the very start, so your words undoubtedly dealt a fatal blow.”
He had not thought she’d have that sort of thought process. In his mind, he thought she would be happy since he had brought her home, fed her, sheltered her, and given her a life she would never dare to dream of before. Not once did he think she would still be stuck traumatized.
Guilt flashed in his eyes. He was about to speak when Elspeth coldly chuckled.
“Has Slevin ever done anything wrong to you? He brought you home in hopes that you could improve your own life and grow to be a considerate person. Who could have known that you would grow up to be so ungrateful?”
Nyla gritted her teeth in anger when Elspeth emotionlessly interrupted her nearly successful attempt at swaying Slevin.
“What? Upset?” Elspeth continued. “In my eyes, you’re only using your depression to be greedy and just keep on taking and taking from others. You only go on about how he did not give you the concern you deserve, but does he have a duty to provide you with that? He has done his duty. You’re just a greedy, insatiable, and bottomless pit.”
Nyla had always placed herself in the role of a victim. Elspeth’s words had Nyla staring at Slevin in disbelief with eyes shimmering with tears. “Don’t believe her nonsense, Slevin. I’m not that kind of person. I never thought you were bad to me. Don’t be fooled by her lies,” she exclaimed.
As for Slevin, he had been drowning in his own guilt the entire time, but Elspeth’s statement caused realization to abruptly dawn on him.
Elspeth was right: what duty did he have to pacify Nyla?
They were not at all related by blood. In a moment of weakness, he had brought her into his home, given her his name, endless spending money, and constant love. He did not expect her to cause a huge problem for him.
He took a few steps back while looking at her with a detached stare. “You disappoint me, Nyla. From now on, you are no longer my sister.”
Panic shined bright in her eyes. She had not expected a few words from Elspeth to be enough to cause a rift between her and Slevin.
Elspeth had even made Slevin disown her.
No. If I am not Nyla Damazio, then I’ll have nothing. No! She raised her head with a decisive look on her face. Finally, she asked, “Are we really past the point of no return? Can you not treat me the same as before?”
Slevin firmly nodded. “I cannot.”
