“Stephanie and Eustace,” Danika said.

Jade said nothing as if discussing with someone else on the other end.

Then, she said, “Where are you? We haven’t had anything to eat yet.Do you mind if we join you?”

Danika didn’t agree at once. She looked at Stephanie and Eustace and said, “Jade wants to come over.Max is probably coming, too.”

“Sure,”Stephanie said.

But then she felt a little guilty since she was only a guest.

Eustace nodded.

“You can decide.” Danika smiled.

She gave Jade the restaurant’s address and waited for them to come.

What Have I Done Wrong?

They came quickly. As Danika had suspected, Max was next to Jade when she called. Hence, he came, too.

“It’s been a while since we’ve met, Danika.” Max was still the charming man he was. However, he looked easier on the eyes. It could be a psychological thing.

Danika couldn’t help teasing him. “Yeah. I remember that you even wanted to pursue me before. What a pity you gave up in the end.”

Max was speechless. He snuck a glance at Jade and coughed dryly. “I was just playing you. You’re not even my type.”

“Oh really? You seemed pretty serious about it at the time. Aren’t I right, Eustace?” Danika looked at Eustace, who had long been by her side.

Eustace nodded solemnly. “I was afraid that you’d actually end up with her.”

Max wanted to cry. “What have I done wrong? Why are you torturing me?”

Jade was right there. How could they say things like that? Furthermore, he hadn’t wanted to pursue Danika back then. He just wanted to make Eustace angry.

“I’m just telling the truth.” Danika smiled.

Max was exasperated. He leaned toward Jade and explained, “Don’t listen to her nonsense. I don’t even like her.” Jade said nothing, and he couldn’t bear it anymore. “It’s true. I was just trying to make Eustace angry.”

“Oh, so now you’re saying I’m lying?” Danika was upset. “How are you going to compensate me for that, Max?”

“What is there to compensate? I might have been playing you, but I never hurt you. In fact, I helped you out quite a few times,” Max said.

Danika thought about it, and it was true. “Well, you were still pretty despicable back then.”

“What do you want me to do, missy?” Max was surrendering. He didn’t want to argue with Danika any longer.

Danika couldn’t help laughing. “I just won’t get you a gift. In fact, you’ll have to get me one when the time comes. After all, I’ll have to call you my brother-in-law in the future.”

Jade was like a sister to Danika. Hence, Max would be her brother-in-law.

Max was stunned. He didn’t expect it to be settled so quickly. “That’s no biggie. I’ll get you a gift.”

The teasing was over. The waiter brought them the menus, and they ordered their food.

Afterward, Jade said, “Danika, you know about Max and me getting married, don’t you?”

“Yes, I just learned about it. You’re so shameless, Jade. You didn’t even tell me sooner.” Danika pretended to be upset, but she was actually very happy for Jade.

The fact that she was willing to marry Max meant that she had truly moved on. All of her hurt would not be able to affect her now.

Jade felt embarrassed. “I wanted to tell you in person. It didn’t feel sincere saying it over the phone.”

Danika didn’t want to press the matter further. “When is the wedding?” she asked.

“In one week,” Jade said.

“That quickly?” Danika wasn’t expecting it to be this early.

Before Jade could speak, Max said, “We got a fortune teller to pick a date, and that was the best time for us to marry.”

There was no doubt that they’d want to have a happy marriage.

I Don’t Care About All That

Danika did not say anything to that. They seemed to have already prepared everything. “Is there anything that you need me to help with?’

“We actually do,’ Max said, smiling.

But then, Jade continued for him, “We’ve already planned out the wedding, but I haven’t found my bridesmaids yet. So, I was thinking of making you and Stephanie my bridesmaids.’

“Of course, I can!” Danika agreed at once. She would gladly do it. But then, she asked, “I’ve divorced. Wouldn’t that affect anything? Bridesmaids are supposed to be unmarried.”

“It’s okay. I don’t care about all that.” What Jade wanted was to have her friends be her bridesmaids. She didn’t care if they were divorced or married.

Danika had no reason to refuse now. “That’s settled, then.”

Then, she said, “Are the groomsmen decided?”

Max nodded. “Yup.”

They were his subordinates. He didn’t care about formalities like that as long as the groomsmen weren’t as handsome as he was. He only cared about who he married.

“Why didn’t you ask me to be one of your groomsmen?” Eustace suddenly asked. Everyone was shocked.

Max spoke, his face full of disbelief, “You? You’re joking.”

Max would be incredibly honored if news spread out that Eustace was his groomsman.

“You invited Danika to be a bridesmaid, but you’re not asking me to be a groomsman. Do you want Danika to stand with another man?” Eustace didn’t actually want to be a groomsman. He just didn’t want Danika to stand with another guy. Besides, the wedding party would have fun together. They might even get intimate with each other. Eustace wouldn’t be able to tolerate that.

Jade hurriedly waved her hands and explained, “That’s not our intention. We didn’t invite you because we didn’t know if you’d want to.”

“If Danika is okay with it, so am I.” In other words, if Danika wasn’t okay with it, so was he.

Jade and Max glanced at each other. They knew what the other meant without even saying a word. “That’s settled, then. Danika will be the bridesmaid, and you’ll be the groomsman.”

“What about me? Are you going to pair me up with a stranger?’ Stephanie was on the verge of tears.

Jade looked pained. She had no other options, but then Danika suggested,” Why don’t we let Leonard be the groomsman?’

“What? Him?’ Stephanie was stunned. ‘He and Jade don’t know each other. II

“That’s a small matter. Everyone will know each other after a meal or two. In fact, I think he’ll be happy to do it.” Danika glanced at Jade, who got the message.

Jade nodded quickly. “Yeah. I’ll contact him later.”

As for how she’d receive his contact, that was no problem at all.

Stephanie said nothing. Eustace teased, “I could get Paul if you want.”

“No!” Stephanie waved her hands around hurriedly. “I’ll have Leonard.”

Leonard was the lesser of two evils.

Eustace sighed inwardly. It looked like Paul truly would not have a chance.

The decisions were made. Jade got up to use the restroom, and Danika looked at Max. “Have you settled things with the Pearsons? I don’t want anything to happen on the wedding day.”

“Don’t worry. Do I look like someone fickle? I’m in charge now. The others can only shut up and deal with it.” He was no longer the Max that they knew in Parrington. Back then, he wasn’t much of a good person. Now, towards the Pearsons, he had no mercy at all.

You’re Not The Person I Like

Danika nodded in satisfaction at his attitude. “Jade is my family. If you make her suffer, 111 beat you up!”

The Zellwegers could easily defeat the Pearsons. Of course, Danika didn’t want that to happen. She would prefer to see Jade and Max happily married.

“You’re worrying too much.” Max smiled. “Why would I be in such a hurry to marry her if I didn’t like her?’ He couldn’t wait to marry Jade. He loved her that much and wouldn’t let anyone object.

“How come I’ve never seen you so deeply in love?” Danika teased. Perhaps she was still biased against Max.

After all, Max had given her the impression that he was a player. If he had just been honest from the start, this wouldn’t be a problem now.

“Well, maybe it’s because…” Max cocked his head and looked at her,” you’re not the person I like.”

Danika was speechless.

“And she doesn’t need you to like her,” Eustace continued, glaring at him.

Back then, if he hadn’t known that Max didn’t actually like Danika, he would have punched him in the face.

“I know, I know.’ Max nodded hurriedly, a smile on his face.

Jade came back quickly. They talked as they ate, and the meal was soon over.

Watching Max and Jade leave, Danika turned and was about to tell Stephanie that they would bring her home. However, Stephanie had already hailed a cab. “Thank you for being such good hosts, Danika and

Mr. Quincey. Good night!”
