Chapter 499 – The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

“Oh, how sweet of them!”

“They’re such a perfect couple.”

They didn’t really have a lot of fans. They weren’t celebrities, after all. The only people who followed them were people who truly cared about them.

Hence, the internet showered them with blessings.

When Stephanie called, Danika and Eustace were having lunch. When she picked up, she heard Stephanie’s excited voice through the receiver.” Danika! Have you really gotten together with Eustace?”

“Yeah.” She had no clue why Stephanie was so surprised. It was to be expected, wasn’t it?

After Stephanie’s call, several others called. Once they confirmed that her account had not been hacked, they sent her their blessings.

Eustace got a call, too, but it was from Old Mr. Quincey.

Old Mr. Quincey was not someone who would be actively online. He got to know about them so quickly because of Alfred.

After dinner at Eustace’s house, Old Mr. Quincey was no longer as resistant toward Alfred. It could also be because of his old age. He accepted Alfred as a part of his own family. Most importantly, he could tell that Danika and Eustace had already accepted Alfred. Old Mr. Quincey naturally would not have a reason to push him away.

Hence, whenever Alfred came to Parrington, he would choose to visit Old Mr. Quincey. He was the one who told him about Danika’s and Eustace’s development.

“Relax, Grandpa. I know what to do.’ Eustace was a little exasperated. Old Mr. Quincey didn’t seem to trust him at all. He felt like he would treat Danika unfairly.

What a joke. Eustace had pursued her tirelessly. Why would he treat her unfairly?

He hung up. Danika put her phone away, too. “Was that Grandpa?”

“Yeah. He told me to cherish you this time and that if I treated you like crap again, he would break my legs. I’m beginning to doubt if he even is my grandpa,” Eustace said self-deprecatingly.

Danika smiled. “Maybe he doesn’t have a good impression of you.”

After all, Eustace had not been the best person the first two times. They wouldn’t have divorced if he was.

“Yeah. I’ll be better in the future.” Eustace didn’t deny it. He gave Danika some food. “Eat more.’

“Alright.” Danika nodded. Then, she asked, “How many more days will we be here?”

“We’ll see where it takes us. Nothing much is happening in Quincey Group. Of course, it’d be great if we could stay for a few more days. After all, it’s not every day we get to vacation like this.” He wanted to accompany her more, but after taking over the Quinceys, he was nose deep in work.

Now that he thought about it, he wasn’t so sure if taking over the Quinceys was the right choice. But if he hadn’t chosen to do so, he wouldn’t be worthy of Danika, who was now the head of the Zellwegers.

Danika didn’t mind. The hospital had given her a long holiday, and she didn’t want to waste it. “Alright, we’ll stay for a few more days.”

Their decision was made. After lunch, they headed toward the next destination. But now, Eustace was enjoying it fully. He was no longer nervous about confessing.

Is There Any Point in Pretending

Evan was one of the first to receive the news of Danika and Eustace getting together.

He couldn’t quite describe what he was feeling. Naturally, he felt disappointed. However, he also found himself feeling relieved. He no longer fooled himself with the promise of hope. He had totally given up.

He put his phone away and looked at Howard. “Let’s go to the company.”

“Do you want to take two days off, sir?” After Danika left, Evan had not rested. No one could endure so much work without rest.

“I’m fine. If you’re tired, you can get someone else to follow me around.” Evan didn’t feel tired. Working was the only way he could relieve the pain in his heart.

Howard would never say that he was tired. He was just worried for Evan. But since Evan had made up his mind, he said nothing else and got the plane ready.

Three days later, after Gilbert hung up on a call with Danika, he stood by the window, deep in thought.

He didn’t like Eustace before. In fact, he tried his hardest to stop them from getting together. However, he understood now that Danika and Eustace were fated to be together. No one could stop them.

He found that he was astonishingly calm. He was not as agitated as before when they got together the first time. Perhaps he had truly let go of Danika and thought of her as his sister. No matter her decisions, he would support her as long as she was happy.

He sighed deeply, feeling at ease.

At this moment, his phone rang. He held it up and realized that it was Paul. He frowned.

The call ended quickly, but Gilbert’s eyebrows were still tightly knit. He and Paul never contacted each other. If Paul called asking to see him, it wasn’t good news.

Gilbert could guess why Paul wanted to talk to him. But he didn’t want to go precisely because of it. He wanted no part in Marigold’s affairs. He took no interest in them at all, but he still put his coat on and went to Paul’s bar.

Gilbert pushed the door open. It was quiet in the private booth, a completely different atmosphere compared to the public area.

Only Paul was in the booth.

“Have a seat,’ Paul said.

Gilbert sat on the opposite, frowning slightly. “Why did you call me here?”

Paul sipped some wine and smiled. “What do you think?”

“I have no idea,” Gilbert said at once. ‘I’m busy. If you have nothing to say, I’ll leave.” He hadn’t even wanted to come at all. And now, seeing Paul like this, he regretted it even more.

“Gilbert, we’re both men. As men, we should at least be able to shoulder basic responsibilities.” Paul looked at him coldly, his gaze frosty.

Gilbert didn’t actually leave. When he heard that, he merely knitted his brow together. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Is there any point in pretending? Why else would I get you here?” Paul asked with a smile on his face. He couldn’t see why Marigold liked Gilbert. Paul didn’t like him at all.

Gilbert’s expression was turning sour, too. He looked at Paul, enunciating clearly, “I’ve already said it many times-the child in Marigold’s body is not mine. And even if it is, I will not accept it!” “You dare say such despicable words?” Paul was angry enough to deliver a punch. But he held it in as best as he could. After all, he was here to solve a problem, not pick a fight.

The Fight

However, Gilbert was not there to solve problems-he didn’t think that there was one in the first place. If there was, it was all Marigold’s fault. It had nothing to do with him.

He looked at Paul and repeated, “You know very well what Marigold and I are like. Would you marry a woman like that?”

“What do you mean, a woman like that? Would this have happened if you hadn’t touched her?’ Paul was furious. Gilbert had spoken as if Marigold were a whore.

Gilbert couldn’t be bothered to argue. He stood his ground. “Tell her that if the child is mine, she should abort it quickly. I won’t accept the kid. And if it’s not mine,” he scoffed, “don’t appear before me again.”

After that, he made to leave. He had nothing more to say to Paul

It was no wonder that Marigold would have such twisted delusions. In his eyes, the Wagners were all the same. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

But before Gilbert could reach the door, Paul jumped up and landed a blow on him that made him stagger to the ground. “Bastard! Who do you think you are? How dare you look down on my sister? I’m going to fucking kill you!”

Paul grew up alongside Eustace. Although he wasn’t as good as Eustace in terms of combat ability, he was still pretty darn good. As for Gilbert, he learned self-defense with Danika for only a few days. Thus, it was a losing battle for him.

In the end, Gilbert was carried away in an ambulance, and Paul was dragged off in a police car.

When Danika and Eustace received the news, they were stunned.

She hung up. “Paul?”

“And Gilbert?” Eustace said.

They shared a smile, both a little speechless. “What were they doing?”

Eustace held her in his arms and buried his head in the crook of her neck, greedily inhaling her scent. “What else could it be? It’s probably about Marigold.”

Danika pushed him away. “Wasn’t that already settled? Why would they fight each other?”

“You’re the only one who thinks it’s settled. Paul would never let Marigold raise the kid on her own. Although he looks to be heartless, he’s pretty protective of Marigold. He probably just wants her to have a happy ending,” Eustace said.

Danika frowned, feeling a headache coming. “But Marigold was insistent on raising the child by herself. I talked with her before and stopped telling her to abort the child. I think she’ll be able to raise the child well.”

“So no one is really in the wrong. Paul was just protecting his sister.” As for Gilbert, Eustace couldn’t say he was in the wrong, either. If he were in his shoes, letting Marigold stay alive would already be a form of mercy.

When he saw how distressed Danika looked, Eustace felt an ache in his heart and embraced her again. “Don’t overthink it. We’ll talk about it when we go back tomorrow.”

“Okay.” Danika felt it was time for them to go back, too. Although the hospital wasn’t urging her to return, she was already restless. On top of that, Paul and Gilbert had caused a scene. She had to check on the situation. But she couldn’t help feeling guilty towards Eustace. “We can still go wherever you’d like to go.” “It’s alright. It doesn’t matter where I go as long as I’m with you.” Eustace smiled, his voice magnetic.

Danika rolled over, burying herself in his chest once more.

Send Him to Jail

After Danika and Eustace got off the plane, they left in two separate cabs. One went to the hospital, and the other to the police station.

Before Danika entered the hospital ward, she heard shouts coming from inside. “What fucking right did Paul have to start hitting you? I’m going to sue him for beating you up this badly!”

It was Zack’s voice. It was obvious that he was furious.

“We can’t hold back anymore. We have to send him to prison,’ Zack said once more. Although he and Gilbert fought before because of Janet, they would still face things like this together.

Gilbert thought he was being noisy. “It’s easier said than done. Wagner Group is not an easy target.”

After Paul took over Eustace’s business in Parrington, his business surpassed Gilbert’s. If Gilbert were to sue him, he might not be victorious.

“What’s there to be scared of? We have Danika on our side. She’s the head of the Zellwegers!” Zack didn’t think it was a problem at all.

As he spoke, Danika pushed the door open. “It’s lively in here.”

“You’re finally here, Danika.” Zack rushed over. “You must avenge Gilbert.”

Danika went to Gilbert’s side and asked, “What do you think? If you want to sue him, we will.”
