Jeremy couldn’t remember how long they were imprisoned there. It was a dingy and dirty place so dark they couldn’t tell when the sun was rising or setting.
He remembered being abused every single day they were held there. The kidnappers only gave them one meal daily so they wouldn’t have the energy to escape. It was a living hell.
Justin, who was older than Jeremy by four years, ended up stalling one of the kidnappers guarding them, thus giving Jeremy a chance to escape.
Jeremy stumbled on in the forest without so much as a glance backward. He finally rolled off a hill when his body gave out from exhaustion.
Luckily, a kind-hearted hunter saved Jeremy and brought him to the police after he woke up. Only then did Jeremy give the police clues and safely make it home.
Justin wasn’t so lucky, however.
The cruel kidnappers had hurt him badly out of anger, locking him in a tiny container and depriving him of food and water for five days. Justin survived those days by consuming his own urine.
Three days later, when the kidnappers finally got their ransom money, Justin was tossed outside Seaview Manor naked and bound. The kidnappers then left in broad daylight.
Justin, meanwhile, had suffered greatly in the process. Due to being abused and the slow asphyxiation in the enclosed container space. for so long, his organs had begun failing. The medical fees needed to treat Justin were as high as 500 thousand dollars!
Justin’s life was literally hanging by a thread during those days.
This incident traumatized the entire Walsh family deeply until today. Because of this, Jeremy felt he owed a great deal to his big brother.
It was also because of those that Javier, who was habitually stern, would be biased toward Justin, not Jeremy.
“But Mr. Justin shouldn’t be stepping in now that you’re the heir!” Xavier complained. “The entire board was already upset when you’ missed the meeting. Mr. Justin’s appearance on your behalf and success in the partnership only made the support toward him in the company grow. Even Mr. Javier started contacting him more.
“I know you value your family, Mr. Walsh, but the Walsh family isn like the Taylor family. Blood relations mean nothing in the face of power! You should know that better than anyone after all these years!
“Even if Mr. Justin saved you all those years ago and treated you well, you two still don’t share the same mother. He’s the eldest, too. How can you guarantee that he has no motives toward Walsh Group after. all these years?”
Xavier’s spit was nearly flying out as he conveyed his heartfelt message.
Jeremy’s breath seemed to hitch in his chest. His eyes were sullen.
Xavier continued, “Mr. Justin makes himself out to be someone who about the company’s partnership with Jesselton Incorporated.
“What does this tell us? It tells us that Mr. Justin was never sitting idly all these years. He’s always been keeping an eye out on you and the Walsh Group!
“Besides, Mr. Justin sat beside Jesselton Inc.’s chairman during the conference call the other day. Obviously, they had arranged for all this to happen and started working secretly!”
Jeremy’s eyes darkened upon hearing this, though he didn’t respond.
“Sometimes, the closest to us can hurt us the most, sir. You need to be careful so that no one can take you by surprise!”
“Xavier, what if, and I mean what if
Xavier blinked lightly.
“What if one day Justin recovered fully, returned to Solana City, and wanted to take over the family business, including my position as
CEO? What do you think I should do? Do I just hand him everything without complaint?”
“What right does Mr. Justin have to just demand what he wants?” Xavier said, his fists balling up. “The company wouldn’t have reached its height today without you. You have shed blood, sweat, and tears. to make this company great.
“You nearly lost your life in an accident while supervising the development lots yourself. You haven’t even begun to enjoy the fruits of your labor, so how dare Mr. Justin come back and reap what your have sowed?
“So what if Mr. Javier is backing him up? You’re doted on by Mr. Walsh Senior! A son has to listen to his father no matter what!”
“What are you going on about father and son?” Alyssa’s voice rang out suddenly.
Jeremy quickly signaled for Xavier to be quiet. His gloomy expression switched to a warm, loving one.
Alyssa walked toward them with some mugs of tea in her hands. What are you two going on about so loudly? You sound so rilea Xavier.”
“It’s nothing important. He gets riled up just by watching stray mutts fight over a bone.” Jeremy went and took the mugs from Alyssa’s hands. “What’s with the courtesy? Do you take me as a mere houseguest?”
“I’m just worried you two might dehydrate yourselves with how much you’re chatting,” Alyssa said with a laugh.
“A kiss freshens me up more than tea,” Jeremy said.
He then kissed Alyssa on the lips as if only the two of them were proovi
Xavier blushed and quickly turned away.
Alyssa’s heart pounded in her chest. She gently pushed Jeremy away right as he was about to slip his tongue in. “I… I’m here to have a serious conversation with you. Can you be more serious?”
“You’re too seductive, Lyse.” Jeremy’s eyes were red with desire. “I can’t be serious around you.”
Alyssa didn’t dare meet his gaze for fear of melting under their heat.
The two sat down on the couch together. Jeremy wrapped an arm around Alyssa’s shoulder while she instinctively leaned into his chest.
They formed a stunning, painting-worthy view.
Xavier nearly cried. He never expected to be able to see the two reunite in this lifetime. It was all worth it now!
“Cyrus called me earlier and said they’re starting the case on Jeffrey,” Alyssa said, her hands balling into fists.
“Landon and I are looking for Inigo too. We have men all over the place, whether it’s the airports, railways, or jetties. They have yet to find any trace of him since everything began.” Jeremy wrapped his hand around Alyssa’s and squeezed it lightly, warming her up.
“Looks like someone’s protecting him. With what you guys are capable of, there’s no way that bastard wouldn’t have been found out by now.”
Alyssa and Jeremy shared a look, knowing who exactly was protecting Inigo.
“Inigo won’t be able to escape so long as he’s in Solana City. Being protected doesn’t matter.” Jeremy’s gaze glinted sharply as he spoke.
“We’ll need to keep a close eye on Jameson too.” Alyssa had thought linger in that any longer wa

Alyssa’s heart clenched. With a purse of her lips, she said, “I doubt it. I’ve investigated Inigo’s background. He used to be a mercenary and had experience personally guarding members of the royal family. He made it to where he is today with an iron fist. I don’t think he’s that easily killed.
“Plus, he wouldn’t have come all the way to Solana City alone. It won’t be that easy to take him out even if Jameson wanted to, right?”
Jeremy’s words still made Alyssa worry.
Jeremy seemed to have picked up on this.
He slowly intertwined their hands and consoled her, “Our enemy is powerful. It’s okay if we don’t catch them all at once.
“There is still time. At the very least, we now know who to watch out for, which is a far better situation than before.
“What’s important now is to take care of Sophia ASAP and both Nina … and my mother.
Jeremy’s voice shook slightly upon mentioning his mother. His grew red with unshed tears.
He did his best to control his emotions in front of Alyssa. He wanted to be a calm, steady sentinel to her, making her feel safe and at ease. whenever.
Alyssa’s heart ached as if it was filled with sharp gravel. She gently hugged Jeremy.
He immediately hugged her back as if he had been waiting for it.
“You don’t have to say anything. I know. I know you care for me.”
Cyrus and three of his team members for this case had been. interrogating Jeffrey for ten hours in the police station.
All of them were incredibly experienced when it came to questioning suspects, yet none of their expertise seemed to work in front of
Jeffrey. He was an evil, strong-willed bastard.
No amount of threat or bait could make Jeffrey reveal who the mastermind behind his acts was.
As things reached a stalemate, Jeremy and Alyssa arrived at the station.
“I’m so sorry, Lyse,” Cyrus said sadly, scratching at his head. “It’s my fault for not being able to crack him even until now. If he’s trying to stall for time, there’s no way we could convict Sophia even if the court finds him guilty. Our one lead on her would be lost by then!”
How could they get revenge for Jeremy at that point in time?
