Zack didn’t want to argue with Danika.
Knowing she was upset, he decided to get out of her hair.
Danika didn’t want to linger on that topic either.
Hence she asked, “How are you and Janet doing lately?”
“Pretty good,” Zack replied.
When Danika didn’t say anything, Zack chuckled and added, “I know you and Gilbert are both waiting for me to break up with her, but let me tell you clearly, Janet and I will never break up!”
“Don’t be too sure.Nobody knows what the future holds.”
They had only been together for a short time; their relationship had yet to experience any hardships.
Looking confident, Zack arrogantly declared, “I am certain!”
Feeling more upset, Danika kept quiet.
Seeing Zack’s confidence, she doubted whether Eustace’s proposal would be effective.
Nobody Likes A Schemer
When she returned to Evan’s place, she found him waiting for her, which made her a little embarrassed.
“Evan, you haven’t slept yet?”
“No, I was waiting for you.”
Evan smiled at her softly.
His gentle gaze was so welcoming that Danika wondered if she would have fallen for him again if she hadn’t met Eustace before Evan came back.
After all, he was the one she had liked when she was young, and although it seemed a bit ridiculous looking back, she still had a teeny bit of feelings left for him.
Unfortunately, it would never happen because in the time Evan went missing, someone else filled the gap in her heart.
“Is your headache better?” Danika asked.
Evan nodded, indicating that he was fine now.
“Did you have a talk with him?”
He knew what Danika went to find Gilbert for and was curious about how he would handle it.As soon as that topic was brought up, Danika sighed.
“Yes.”
“It appears that Gilbert is not willing to take responsibility.”
Evan took a guess.If Gilbert was, Danika would be looking so upset.
Danika walked to the sofa and sat down with a sad look on her face.
“Gilbert said that he won’t accept the child regardless of whether it is his or not.”
“I understand.”
Evan was not surprised as it was not out of character for Gilbert.
As long as he didn’t like her, Marigold’s unborn child would never sway him.
Danika sighed again.
“I just thought, after all, since they have a child, if Gilbert doesn’t hate Marigold, maybe he could give her a chance.”
Whether they ended up married was another matter, but at least they could get to know each other. What if they fell in love?
“Nobody likes a schemer.”
After saying that, Evan felt that this statement wasn’t good enough.
“Well, to be exact, no one likes falling into the traps set by others.”
Some people might fall in love with each other in a situation like that, but Evan was not one of them.
Danika understood Evan’s stance, and because she understood it, it made her even more worried.She wondered what she should do.
Should she just watch Marigold give birth to the child and raise the child alone? Danika didn’t grow up with her parents.
Hence, she didn’t want Gilbert’s child to grow up without its father, as it would be cruel to the child.
“Danika, there are some things you can’t change.Just do your best and let them decide for themselves.”
Seeing her frowning, Evan knew what she was worrying about and felt slightly distressed.
Danika nodded, understanding that it was futile for her to worry about it.
“Evan, go to bed.It’s late.”
“Okay.”
Evan did not refuse.
After all, he had only remained in the living room so that he could see Danika when she came back.
Danika wheeled Evan upstairs.
After seeing him enter his room, Howard followed.
There was no need for her to take care of him.
In fact, she hadn’t taken care of Evan much since moving in.
Danika lay in her room, thinking about whether she should meet Marigold tomorrow.
Just then, her phone rang.
Danika didn’t need to look at the caller ID to know that it was Eustace calling.
“Danika,” Eustace said through the phone.
“Just got back?”
“Yeah, I went to see Gilbert, just got back,”
Danika answered, getting up and walking to the window.
As she had expected, Eustace was standing across from her, waving and smiling brightly.
“Have you had dinner?” Danika asked, worried that Eustace might forget to eat because he was busy.
Upon hearing her concern, Eustace was very happy.
“Yes, I have.Of course, I’d follow your instructions.”
The Child Is Mine
Evan was in his room and couldn’t hear what Danika and Eustace were talking about, but he could guess from Eustace’s smile that they were having a good chat.
His mood suddenly turned sour.
“You should rest.”
Howard didn’t know what Evan was thinking, nor could he do anything about it.
Evan nodded and got up from the wheelchair to lie down on the bed.
Just as Howard was about to leave, he suddenly said, “Set an appointment with Eustace to come over tomorrow.”
“You want to see him?”
Howard was puzzled.He didn’t think Evan and Eustace had anything to talk about.
Evan nodded but didn’t bother to explain.
He was already formulating a plan in his mind.
If he wanted to go abroad, he needed a good reason.
Howard didn’t ask any more questions.
All he knew was that Evan had his plans, and he just needed to do as he was told.
The next day, Danika invited Marigold out during her lunch break.
Marigold was confused when she received Danika’s phone call as she didn’t think she had anything to discuss with Danika.
