Clearing her throat to command attention, Leila addressed the room with authority.

The main issue at hand was clear: the Kensington Group had inexplicably turned its sights on the Nixon Group, igniting tension and uncertainty within the company. They had been seizing business opportunities and rallying competitors against the Nixon Group.

For years, rival companies had nursed envy toward the Nixon Group’s remarkable success. Yet, hesitation kept them from acting-either lacking the chance or fearing the repercussions of being the first to challenge such a formidable force.

Additionally, Leila’s steadfast backing from the Morgan Group initially, and later the Kensington Group, had served as a powerful deterrent, dissuading any serious attempts to undermine her empire.

However, the landscape had shifted dramatically. The Kensington Group, once a reliable ally, had now taken a stand against the Nixon Group.

Envious competitors saw their opportunity and eagerly moved to sabotage the Nixon Group, aiming to destabilize and potentially merge it with their own ventures.

This escalation posed significant threats, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the Nixon Group’s future.

For Leila, the situation was deeply unsettling. She struggled to comprehend Landon’s true motives. Was his aggression fueled by revenge? His blatant tactics seemed ineffective-while they certainly disrupted the Nixon Group, they weren’t sufficient to drive it into bankruptcy. In fact, a direct confrontation between the two companies would inadvertently benefit the Morgan Group, further complicating the power dynamics. What exactly was Landon aiming to achieve?

Still, the issue had to be solved.

After lengthy deliberation, Leila addressed her team with unwavering determination, “I need each department to stay vigilant. Focus on expanding our client base and enhancing the quality of our services. Maintaining our internal stability is paramount right now. I will handle the rest.”

Yet, a lingering thought nagged at Leila-she might need to confront Landon, even though she was reluctant to do so. There was something she needed to clarify between them. Would they choose to ignore the past and sever all ties, or would they become bitter adversaries, locked in an endless battle?

Leila’s resentment toward Landon and Lacey for their machinations against Elma simmered beneath the surface, but she recognized that now was not the time to act on those feelings.

The meeting dragged on until the early hours, concluding only at 3 a.m. Exhausted, Leila decided to drive back home. As she got down to the underground parking lot of her building, there, in a dimly lit corner, stood a familiar figure she hadn’t expected to see.

Leila’s eyes darted briefly to the familiar figure lingering not far from her. Her heart quickened as she accelerated her steps toward her car, deliberately averting her gaze to maintain her composure.

Just as Leila reached the vehicle and began to unlock the door, a firm grip seized her hand.

“Leila,” Clayton called out, his voice wavering with a mix of desperation.

“Do you really want to erase me from your life forever?”

Panic surged through Leila as she attempted to wrench her hand free, but Clayton’s hold was unyielding, leaving her no room to escape. Frustration flashed in her eyes as she met his gaze, her tone icy and resolute.

“Mr. Morgan, if you don’t release me right now, I’m going to call security.”

Reluctantly, Clayton loosened his grip, stepping back with a defeated sigh.

Leila took a deep breath, her expression clearly displeased.

“What do you want?”

Clayton’s gaze pierced through Leila’s impassive facade, his lips curling into a bitter smile.

“I’ve heard about Landon’s recent moves against the Nixon Group, and it’s got me concerned for your safety. I came to check in on you. What Landon did crossed a line.”

Clayton paused, searching her eyes for a flicker of hatred toward Landon.

“Leila, I can help. Why not combine our strengths to take Landon down?” Clayton’s earnestness seemed genuine, as if he truly cared for her.

Deep down, Leila sensed Clayton might not be behind the scenes. Despite Clayton’s prowess, she knew controlling Landon’s unpredictable nature was beyond anyone’s reach. Perhaps aligning with the Morgan Group was the most pragmatic approach. Yet, trust didn’t come easily to her right now.

“No, thank you.” Leila’s refusal was swift and resolute.

“I can manage this on my own. There’s no need to involve you, Mr. Morgan.”

Clayton’s smile faltered, the corners of his mouth stiffening in surprise.

“Leila, Landon is no ordinary problem. Facing him alone, you stand little chance of overcoming him.”

Leila met his concern with calm determination.

“I understand the risks. I’m not aiming for a swift victory. I’ll proceed step by step. Even if I stumble, the savings I’ve diligently amassed over the years will sustain me and my children. There’s no need to jeopardize that further.”

Clayton’s disbelief deepened, his eyes widening as doubt crept in. He began to wonder if the woman before him was truly Leila. He had witnessed her relentless ambition firsthand, watching her build her business with tireless dedication.

From the ground up. Was she genuinely ready to abandon everything she had worked for?

Taking a steadying breath, Clayton pressed on.

“Do you believe I have ulterior motives? Let’s make this official. We can draft a contract. I can offer you manpower, funding, and all necessary resources without any strings attached-just tell me what you need. I won’t ask for anything in return. If you’re still hesitant, we can involve lawyers right away.”

“No need.” Leila’s impatience was barely concealed.

“As I mentioned, this is my own concern and has nothing to do with you.” Without another word, she turned and headed for her car.

Clayton, however, refused to relent. He reached out and knocked on her window.

“Leila, are you still upset about what I had done before? You can hate me or despise me, but don’t act rashly now. Landon isn’t someone to be trifled with. If you and the Nixon Group fall, he won’t let you go easily. And what about Lacey? She won’t just sit back and watch you live peacefully.”

Despite Clayton’s desperate pleas, Leila ignored him completely. She started the engine with a blank expression, intending to leave without engaging further. It was clear she wouldn’t hesitate to run him over if he persisted.

Clayton valued his own safety above all else. He watched helplessly as Leila turned the steering wheel, his pupils narrowing in frustration. Reluctantly, he released the window. His face darkened, growing stern as he observed her car speed away.

At that moment, Clayton’s assistant approached, a hint of irritation in his tone.

“Mr. Morgan, you genuinely had her best interests at heart this time, but she just couldn’t see it.”

Clayton’s eyes darkened, his jaw tightening as he wrestled with his thoughts.

His assistant continued, “I still believe we should stay out of this. Let Landon and Leila resolve their differences on their own. It won’t impact us directly.”

“Shut up!” Clayton snapped, his tone icy.

“As you pointed out, she didn’t appreciate it. If that’s truly the case, I have no choice but to be ruthless.”

Clayton’s eyes narrowed, the venom in his gaze cutting through the air like a blade.

“Call in the right people,” he commanded, his voice low but brimming with menace.

“If they want trouble, we’ll serve it. Let’s make this worth their trouble.”

The power struggle between the Nixon Group and the Kensington Group was at its peak, leaving executives on both sides grappling with sleepless nights.

But just as the tension reached a boiling point, the Kensington Group made an unexpected move: they abruptly pulled back-with one condition. They wanted a face-to-face meeting with Leila.

Leila, always poised for the unexpected, had considered this possibility but hadn’t anticipated it arriving so soon. Once the request reached her, she calmly directed her assistant, “Set it up. Find a time and place that works. Let’s see what they really want.”

When Sophie heard the news, her response was immediate and firm.

“I’m going with you, Mom. You can’t face Landon alone.”

Leila’s lips curved into a soft smile, though her eyes betrayed her weariness. She ruffled Sophie’s hair affectionately.

“Sweetheart, this is adult business. It’s messy and unpleasant. You shouldn’t have to worry about it.”

Sophie frowned, her hands clenching into fists.

“I’m not a kid anymore! I can help. You don’t have to handle this by yourself.”

Leila’s expression softened, and she drew Sophie into a hug, resting her chin gently on her daughter’s head. Her voice dropped to a whisper, heavy with emotion.

“What I need most is for you to stay home and look after your siblings. They need you, Sophie. More than I need backup in a boardroom.”
