She was in the dark about Marigold’s situation, but she could tell that there were a lot of heavy secrets behind the pregnancy.
At that point, Danika had no idea that she was connected to Marigold’s pregnancy in a way.
After receiving the prescription, Marigold left in a hurry.
Danika watched and prayed that the headache was not symptomatic of something major.
Soon, the next patient entered the room, and Danika was thrown into the hectic work, leaving the thoughts of Marigold behind.
At the hospital entrance, Marigold sat by the flower bed and took the prescribed pills with mineral water.
Then, she spent a long time by the flower bed until her headache subsided.
She stood up to leave.
A black sedan pulled up beside her when she arrived on the street to hail a cab.
Paul emerged from the car with an ashen face.
His eyes flamed in anger when he spotted her baby bump.
“Paul…”
Marigold, feeling afraid, did not go up to him.
He stared at her coldly and confronted her, ”No wonder you didn’t come home. You’re pregnant.Who’s the father?”
He tried his best to control his temper, but that proved challenging when he was met with her silence.
“Paul, can you stop asking questions? The child’s mine.”
The headache came back again, this time worse than before.
Paul, seized by fury, grabbed her collar.
“Marigold Wagner, think carefully before you answer!”
“The child’s mine,” she insisted while fully knowing the consequences of her non- answer.
If Paul learned about the child’s father, he would not let her enjoy another peaceful day in her life.
Moreover, the last thing she wanted was for Paul to go up against the man.
“If you refuse to tell] me, you can’t keep the baby.”
Paul was adamant.
The Wagners would not accept a bastard child from nowhere.
Then, he dragged her into the hospital, looking determined to get her an abortion on the same day.
Don’t Paul Me!
Marigold finally panicked at that moment. She struggled with all her might.
“I’m not getting an abortion! Paul, let me have the baby. You’re capable enough and won’t need to rely on my arranged marriage for power.Just let me raise the baby alone,” she wailed and sobbed.
Paul’s expression hardened, but at least he stopped dragging her into the hospital.
“Yeah, I do not need to arrange a marriage for you.But have you considered the consequences of having the baby? You’ll be the brunt of the joke, and that’s going to be tough. Are you sure you can handle that?”
Even though the Wagners were not the most influential, they raised Marigold as a princess, and she never encountered any major obstacles in her life. Her claim that she’d raise a child asa single mother was an absolute joke. She straightened her back and said in all seriousness, “I can.”
“You—” he choked on anger once more.
“You can keep the child if you want.We can afford that. But in return, you need to tell me who is the father, so I can decide on our next step.”
His tone softened as he reached for a compromise. She hung her head and stubbornly refused to speak.
That was the last straw for him.
“If you’re not telling, we’re not keeping the baby!”
Then, he started dragging her into the hospital.
She was terrified.
Knowing Paul, he totally had the means and guts to carry out his threat.
“Paul, if I tell you, will you really let me keep the baby?” she asked tentatively.
“Do you have a choice now?” he fired back.
Her face went blank as she sank into despair. He threatened her again when she refused to tell, “Do you think I can’t get to the bottom of it? I can investigate all the people you were in contact with. It’s a matter of time before I find out about him.”
“I’ll tell,”she hurriedly added.
“But promise me not to tell anyone else. And don’t give him trouble.I willingly keep the baby, and he doesn’t even know about the pregnancy.”
“You—“
Paul felt his anger rising again.
“Okay, tell me first.”
“He’s…Gilbert Hawthorn,” she stammered after a long pause.
The baby was an accident—she never thought the one-night stand would lead to a pregnancy.
And truth be told, she was happy about the baby.
Although Gilbert hated her, she decided to come home after learning that Gilbert returned to Clusia.
Once, she ran into Gilbert, who was shopping with Danika and a couple of others.
It was a coincidence.
Still, she couldn’t stop herself from tailing them for a bit.
She yearned to see the man and even flirted with her urge to tell him the truth.
However, it struck her that she could not reveal her pregnancy when he met with her without attempting to conceal his dislike for her.
He’d never let her keep the baby.
Therefore, she neither visited the Wagner Manor nor went out in public frequently to keep a low profile about her pregnancy.
To her dismay, Paul had caught on.
She looked up, curious about Paul’s expression.
As expected, his face crumbled.
“Paul…”
“Don’t Paul me!”
He was engulfed in rage.
“I should have known! Did you go abroad last time just to meet him?”
She didn’t deny that.
“Do you think you could use a child to tie Gilbert Hawthorn down? “
Paul did not have much interaction with Gilbert, but even he knew that Gilbert was no saint.
The idea of keeping the man by her side with the child as an excuse was frankly delusional.
You Won’t Be Disappointed
Marigold understood the reason for his concern.
“I have never intended to use the child to keep him by my side.I just wanted to keep the child for myself.”
Even if she couldn’t be with Gilbert, she’d be satisfied with giving birth to his child and raising the baby.
When the child grew up, she’d be witnessing a tiny Gilbert in the making, which would be a source of satisfaction and accomplishment.
Unfortunately, Paul didn’t share the same sentiment.
“You’re hopeless!”
“Paul, you promised me.”
She glanced at him with teary eyes, hoping that her brother would not find trouble with Gilbert.
After some deep thinking, he asked her to get into his car.
