“She actually noticed I didn’t eat much at lunch?’ he thought, a bit surprised. ‘So… she’s been watching me too?”
“Eddie?” Vicki called softly when he didn’t get back to her.
Eddie shook his head. “Thanks, but I’m not hungry.”
Vicki didn’t give up. “How about some fruit? Do you like any kind in particular?”
Eddie shook his head again. “No fruit either, thanks.”
“Or maybe some water? I can pour you a glass…” Vicki offered.
“Ms. Shaw,” Eddie interrupted her, his voice calm. “It’s just a small injury, really. You don’t need to look after me.”
At his words, Vicki went quiet.
But instead of leaving, she sat down on the couch.
Even though Eddie kept insisting his injury was minor, it was in his knee, wasn’t convenient for him to move around.
‘I’ll just stick around and help out if he needs anything,’ Vicki thought herself.
Eddie was a bit surprised. He thought Vicki would leave after what he said, but she stayed right where she was.
“Ms. Shaw…” Eddie began again.
But Vicki quickly interrupted him. “Eddie, can you not call me that? We’ve know
Eddie just stared at her, speechless. each other for so long. Don’t treat me like a str.”
‘She wants me to call her something else?’ he wondered, a bit thrown off. ‘What am I even supposed to call her?’
If he remembered correctly, Vicki hated his guts.
So how could she let him call her anything else?
Eddie stayed silent.
Vicki wasn’t exactly a social butterfly either, so she couldn’t just keep talking to fill the silence. So, she went quiet as well.
The atmosphere grew heavy.
After a moment, Vicki picked up the remote and asked, “Eddie, do you want to watch some TV?”
Eddie nodded. “Sure.”
The sound of the TV filled the living room.
Eddie reached into his pocket, wanting to kill some time on his phone, only to remember it was already broken and off getting repaired.
Vicki noticed his every move.
Then, she suddenly stood up.
Eddie immediately looked up at her.
Vicki smiled and said, “Eddie, I’ll be back in a while.”
Eddie watched as Vicki walked away, his alluring eyes brimming with loneliness.
Even just sitting quietly together without saying a word was already happy enough, a luxury he barely dared to hope for.
So, when Vicki came back an hour later, a faint smile quickly appeared on Eddie’s usually stoic face.
But just as quickly, he suppressed it.
“Why did you come back?”
Vicki placed a brand-new, unopened phone in front of him. “I got you a new phone to make up for the one I broke.”
Eddie was taken aback.
A new phone?
He glanced down at the coffee table, staring at the latest model from the mess as emotions all tangled up inside him. same brand as his broken phone. For a moment, his mind became a
Eddie slowly picked up the phone. Somehow, he plucked up his courage and looked Vicki right in the eyes. “Vicki, why did you ever hate me?”
Vicki froze for a second, surprised. “Hate you? Why would I ever hate you?”
Eddie seemed surprised. “You… You don’t hate me?”
Instantly, his eyes lit up with joy.
Eddie was handsome all around, but it was his eyes that truly stood out.
He gazed at Vicki so intently that she almost felt like she was getting lost in his eyes. She shook her head. “No, I don’t hate you.”
Eddie’s eyes widened instantly.
‘She doesn’t hate me?’ he thought in disbelief.
Vicki actually said she didn’t hate him.
Even though he heard it with his own ears, Eddie still found it hard to believe.
“You really don’t hate me?” He fixed his gaze on Vicki, afraid to mis.
Vicki’s pure, beautiful face lit up with a smile as she shook her head. “No
A smile slowly spread across Eddie’s lips. even the slightest change in her expression.
Seizing the moment, Eddie couldn’t stop himself from asking, “Then why did y year ago?” you seem to be deliberately avoiding me outside your place a
But even so, there were still doubts gnawing at him.
Vicki was stunned when she heard this. She opened her mouth several times as if to say something, but in the end, no words came out.
The answer Eddie wanted would have stung.
She just couldn’t bring herself to say it to his face.
Noticing Vicki’s awkwardness, Eddie didn’t push her any further.
The smile never left his lips. “As long as you don’t hate me, that’s good enough for
If Vicki didn’t hate him, then he would still have a shot.
His long-silent heart suddenly came alive again, thumping with excitement.
Vicki pressed her lips together and lowered her eyes, feeling a bit guilty.
To be honest, she thought Eddie was really nice.
But her brother wouldn’t let her be around him. me.”
But today, since Baron was truly busy, Vicki ended up spending the whole afternoon with Eddie instead.
The wedding plans for Baron and Rachel were finalized. They’d be tying the knot in Regalburg in six months.
That evening, Vicki returned home.
Eddie sat on the sofa in his room, pulling up his pant leg to look at his knee wrapped in bandages, his lips slowly curling into a smile.
If it hadn’t been for the accident, if he hadn’t caught that look of concern in Vicki’s eyes, he never would’ve had the guts to ask her that,
The next day, Beth headed back to Steerfall.
Eddie stayed behind Beth wanted to stay and look after him, but Eddie refused.
Instead, he moved into the villa next door to the Shaws.
He’d only ever spent one night there since he bought the place.
But this time, as Eddie settled in, his feelings were completely different.
Now that he knew Vicki didn’t hate him, he felt so much more at ease.
The flowers in the yard were blooming, so he took a picture and sent it to Vicki.
