Danika thinks he’s compatible with Stephanie, so you’re going to support her till the end, aren’t you?”
Paul wasn’t an idiot.
Eustace didn’t refute, so Paul continued, “I’m not asking you to help me do this, Eustace. You just need to stand back and not interfere.I don’t want to lose you as a friend.”
Eustace’s temples were throbbing now.
“You want to kill Leonard so Stephanie will be with you again, but did you ever consider if that’ll actually happen if you do this?”
At that point, it’d be the death of a human life that connects them.
Paul stayed silent, clearly considering it.
“I’m just saying maybe it’s time to let go of Stephanie. You have Melanie, and she’s a good choice. She genuinely—“
Paul glared at him instantly, making Eustace stop what he was saying.
“Look, if you really don’t want anyone but Stephanie, then you shouldn’t even be considering killing Leonard.Stephanie would only permanently end things with you.”
Watch After Him
Of course, Paul didn’t.
But right now, the distance between him and Stephanie was already unbearably far.It felt like there was nothing he could do to win her back.
“I still have a chance with Leonard out of the picture.Right now, I’m basically nothing to her!”
Paul insisted, having been incredibly jealous and angry ever since Leonard put his hands on Stephanie.
Eustace shook his head.
“Do you really think so? Don’t you know just how determined Stephanie can be?”
He could guess based on how Danika was like.If Paul actually killed Leonard, not only would he lose all his chances, Stephanie might hate him for life.
Paul seemed to understand that as well.
He clutched his head, panicked.
“What do I do then? Fucking tell me what to do, Eustace? I can’t just watch them get closer to each other!” He really couldn’t handle it.
“Do you want to hear my honest opinion, Paul?”
Eustace said, sad for his distressed friend.
“No.Hell no.She still loves me.I know she does. She’s just angry at me for what happened before.I’ll make her forgive me!”
Paul cried.
Eustace sighed.
He wouldn’t push it, then.
“Be strong then, my friend.”
He patted Paul’s shoulder and then went downstairs to give the man some space.
Danika was grilling some wings with Stephanie and the others when she spotted Eustace. She hurriedly went over.
“Well? How’d it go? He’s not going to do it, is he?”
Danika couldn’t help but imagine the worst when Paul stormed away from dinner, only to summon Eustace to the study.
Eustace rubbed his temples.
“Not for the time being, no.”
“So he really was considering it?”
Danika instantly picked up what Eustace was implying.
“Why do you have to be so sharp?”
Eustace huffed, shaking his head.
“Tell him I’m warning him—if he comes for Leonard, I will not hesitate to cut him down.”
Leonard wasn’t his friend, but since he might be Stephanie’s next partner, Danika wasn’t going to allow him to get hurt.
Eustace sighed.
“Don’t worry.I’ll watch after him.”
He knew Danika meant it, so he could only do his best to convince Paul not to be so rash.
It was difficult being stuck between the woman he loved and his best friend.
“Please do.I won’t be the least bit kind to him if he tries anything stupid.”
Not even the fact that he was Paul’s friend would change that.
“Alright, alright.”
The two then joined in the barbecue, waiting for midnight to come.
Two minutes before midnight, everyone left the villa and went out into the streets.
Fireworks were already lined at the ready in front of the neighboring houses, waiting to be set alight.
“Remember to make a wish,” Stephanie reminded Danika.
“Wish? Will it come true?”
Danika hadn’t heard of this tradition before.
Stephanie gazed at the sky, smiling.
“Who knows? What if it does?”
Did You Make a Wish?
As the clock struck midnight, fireworks were launched into the sky, bursting into bright, colorful blossoms.
Danika happily admired the view, quietly making a wish for herself. Her wish was for Evan to be able to walk again.
“Did you make a wish yet?” Stephanie asked.
Danika nodded.
“But I can’t tell you what it was.”
“I understand. It won’t come true if you do.I made my wish too.”
Stephanie grinned, staring up at the beautiful light show.
After it was over, the guests left one after the other.
Stephanie got into Leonard’s car, waving goodbye to Danika.
“Bye.Happy New Year, Danika!”
“Happy New Year!”
The villa soon cleared out, leaving only Eustace, Danika, and Evan.
Eustace ignored the man and went straight to Danika.
“Happy New Year, Danika.”
“Happy New Year.”
Danika grinned.
“Oh, wait for me one sec.”
Danika ran back to Evan’s place, grabbing the gift she’d gotten for Eustace.
Eustace didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as he watched her run in, glancing at the gift he’d prepared for her.
Danika soon returned with a gift box.
“Here, your New Year’s present.”
“Thank you.I got you something too.”
Eustace handed her his gift box.
Danika beamed at him as she held it.
