“What about you? Any New Year’s plans?” Eustace asked.
He wanted to ask her if she’d like to spend it with him but wasn’t sure if she’d accept the offer.
After some thinking, Danika said, “I’m not sure.Probably like usual —spending it with Zack and Gilbert.”
Evan would likely join them as well, though Danika didn’t mention it to Eustace for fear of his displeasure.
Frankly, Eustace had guessed as much too.
“Sounds good. Why don’t we light some fireworks together during the night? We can have lunch together.”
The people of Bardoff City customarily had their New Year’s meal as lunch instead, so they’d still be able to hang out for the remainder of the day.
“Alright.”
Eustace grinned.
“Get some rest then.”
“You too.”
Danika didn’t ask further about Eustace’s personal business. She trusted him enough to make the right decisions.
Just as she was about to end the call, Eustace suddenly asked, “Aren’t you going to ask about Blake and me?”
Danika frowned, then suddenly recalled the news she’d seen earlier.
“I trust you’re not the kind of person to go back on your words,” she said uncertainly after a moment’s pause.
“Oh? Who says so?”
If he didn’t, he wouldn’t have gone back to pursue Danika after their divorce.
“‘So…you really plan to get back together with Blake?” Danika scoffed.
If so, then whatever was between them would end now.
“Of course not.I never liked her that way.”
Blake had never been anything to Eustace.
Danika was the only one he’d ever had eyes for.
Danika chewed on her lip.
“Really? Why get back in touch with her then?”
“You’re not jealous, are you, Danika?”
Eustace felt there was a chance she still had feelings for him if she’d go so far as to ask that question. Danika said nothing, about to hang up the call, when Eustace quickly cut in, “She just called me all of a sudden, asking for help to succeed as heir to her family.”
“She’s still after that?”
Blake really was quite stubborn.
That was the reason Blake had gotten with Eustace in the first place, too.
“Yeah.If I don’t help her, she’ll never stand a chance.”
Every Watkins only had their eyes on Blake’s brother, after all.No one would support a woman for that position.
Graham giving Danika the spot as the family head was a rare sight among the Ten Elites.
“So you’re gonna help her?” Danika pouted.
“Not exactly.I’ll be getting something out of this too.I’ve made her promise to try and get her family to help us deal with the remaining Quinceys once she succeeds.”
Eustace would have dealt with them even without Blake’s help, but he wasn’t about to let her get her way without putting in equal effort.
Danika nodded.
“No wonder. It seems the Quinceys have their hands full with the Blakes’ antics Lately.””
The Watkins were, in truth, on par with the Fanst family, so if they put in the work to attack the Quinceys, not even Yakov and Zeke would be able to handle it.

No Choice
“My guess is the old man will come knocking on my door soon enough.”
Of course, unless Zeke wanted to watch his family collapse into a heap of rubble.
From across the windows, Danika gave him a thumbs up.
“Amazing work, Eustace.”
“So what if I am? I’ll always lose when it comes to you.”
He really never stood a chance against Danika.
Danika rolled her eyes.
“Alright.Time to sleep.Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
After bidding their farewells and hanging up, Danika closed her curtains, making Eustace finally leave the window.
Just when he was about to draw his curtains, he spotted Evan across the building looking out the window right at him.He had most likely seen Eustace calling Danika over the phone just now.
Eustace grinned and waved at the man before drawing his curtains.
Evan’s expression fell.
Eustace was clearly flaunting at him.
Still, there was nothing he could do.
Bardoff City was Eustace’s playing field.
It would be extremely difficult to get rid of the man, plus Danika would never forgive him if he killed him.She might end up hating him for the rest of her life.
Eustace’s estimation was pretty on point.
The day before New Year’s, he was called back to the Quincey Manor in Bardoff City, right after fetching his grandfather from the airport too.
“What is it?” Old Mr.Quincey asked curiously.
“Oh, nothing. Just that the other Quinceys called just now—they want me to go over,” Eustace said as he helped his grandfather into the car.
“Are you so sure they’ll be doing this to hand you the title of the family head?”
Old Mr.Quincey asked, now worried.
“Of course. They don’t have a choice.”
The Quincey family’s stocks had plummeted into the abyss last he checked this morning.
If they didn’t do something now, they’d die off in Bardoff City.
Old Mr.Quincey was unaware of all this plotting, however.
” Alright. You should go then.”
In truth, the inheritance and wealth of the Quincey family didn’t appeal to him.
All that he held onto was having been kicked out all those years ago.
So now that his grandson was helping him deal with his family, he’d no longer have any regrets in life.
Well, save for Eustace not taking over as head of the family, of course.
