They went into the living room before Eustace introduced him to them.
He was a famous chiropractor and was the best when it came to injuries like Evan’s.
“I specially invited Dr.Julian Gaarder over to examine you. He’s old and skilled. There might be a way to treat this,” Eustace said.
No matter how much he hated Evan, he wanted to see him go back to normal.
Thus, he did his best to procure a doctor for him.
Evan didn’t react to Eustace’s words, but Danika did.
“Hello, Dr.Gaarder.I can’t believe that I’m seeing you in person.”
It was no wonder she thought he was familiar.
He was someone who frequently appeared in her textbooks.
Although she was not a chiropractor, she knew of him. That was why she was so excited.
The Bias Runs Deep
Once the formalities were over, Danika looked at Evan excitedly.
“With Dr.Gaarder’s help, Evan, you’ll definitely recover.”
However, Evan didn’t reply. He had not expected Eustace to put in so much effort in finding treatment for him.
Of course, Evan didn’t think Eustace was doing this for his own good.
He just wanted to steal Danika away from him.
His face darkened, and he said calmly, “There’s no need.I believe in the doctors at Bardoff Hospital. They will find a way to treat me.I don’t trust anyone that Eustace brings me.”
“Don’t be too cocky, Evan!” Eustace roared.
Danika rushed over to advise him as well.
“Evan, Dr.Gaarder is a specialist in this field.Just let him examine you.”
“There’s no need,” Evan insisted.
He looked at Dr.Gaarder.
“Thank you for coming here personally. However, I don’t quite need you at the moment.”
Dr.Gaarder had never encountered something like this before.
However, he was not angry.
He’d seen many things in his old age, and he could tell what was happening between the three of them with just a glance. He said nothing, merely looking at Eustace next to him.He was the one who brought him there, after all.
Eustace looked displeased.
He roared, “Is it because you don’t dare to be examined, Evan?”
“Why wouldn’t I know what you’re doing, Eustace?”
Evan met his gaze with no remorse at all.
Eustace was incensed.
“What would I be doing? What could I be doing? “First, you moved next door. And now you’re pretending to care about me by hiring a doctor.Who knows if you’re trying to kill me? ” Evan said coldly.
He did not conceal his animosity at all.
“Don’t be so petty, Evan!”
Eustace was so angry he could punch him.
But Danika was there.
Evan glanced at him and then beckoned for Howard to push him into his room.
“You know if I’m being petty or not.I just don’t think that you want me to recover.Hence, I will not receive any treatments from the doctors you bring.”
These words would cut off any chances of Eustace bringing him any other doctors.
Eustace was about to lose control of himself.
Danika held him back, shaking his head.
“Take Dr.Gaarder back.I’ll talk some sense into Evan.”
“Hmph! The question you should be asking, Danika, is whether or not he’s really hurt!”
Eustace seriously doubted the authenticity of Evan’s injuries.
Who wouldn’t want to be cured immediately and be freed of a lifetime spent in a wheelchair? “Don’t you dare say that, Eustace!”
Danika glared at him.
“Who would lie about a thing like this? Your words are making me angry.”
It was then that Eustace came back to his senses.
“I’m sorry.I wasn’t slandering him on purpose.I just don’t think that his refusal is normal.Even if he doesn’t like me and distrusts anyone I bring, he should at least trust you.You know Dr.Gaarder.Could I bribe him?”
A bigshot like Dr.Gaarder could be paid to treat someone.
But he could never, ever be paid to hurt someone.
“I know. His bias toward you runs deep.I’ll talk some sense into him.”
Danika would not pass up this opportunity. She had to let Dr.Gaarder examine him.
What if there was a way to cure him? Eustace brought Dr.Gaarder away.
“I’ll leave now.Let me know if he agrees, and I’ll bring Dr.Gaarder over.”
“Okay.” Danika nodded.
Are You Saying He Could Be Acting?
Eustace’s expression shifted when he walked out of Evan’s villa.
Eustace didn’t expect Evan to be so unwilling to let Dr.Gaarder check his injuries. He turned and said to the doctor, “I’m sorry.I’m making you stay in Bardoff City for a few more days.”
“It’s fine. It’s been a while since I’ve been in the country.I could walk around the city for a bit.”
Dr.Gaarder didn’t mind.
He looked at Eustace and said, “That gentleman seemed very resistant to my treatment.”
“Yes.But it has nothing to do with you. It’s a personal strife between us,” Eustace said.
Dr.Gaarder smiled.
He considered Evan’s condition based on what he saw and said, “Although I have not performed a check-up on him, I think it’s odd.”
“Really? What is?”
Eustace halted his footsteps and looked at him.
“From the records you showed me, Mr.Clarke’s injuries should be very serious.Even if he could sit in a wheelchair, he would not have been as animated as he was today,” Dr.Gaarder said.
That instantly made Eustace realize that there was more to this situation.
When he told Danika that Evan was afraid of being examined, he was only venting his anger.
But now that Dr.Gaarder said it, Eustace began to doubt Evan as well.
Could Evan be putting on an act? He asked, “Are you saying that he’s not really seriously injured?”
“I can’t make assumptions.It’s just a possibility.I must perform a check-up on him before I can conclude anything.”
What if Evan was the one-in-a-million lucky survivor? If Dr.Gaarder said it was a possibility, Eustace thought it was definite.
Oh, Evan.
He was just pretending, after all.
Eustace began to suspect that Evan actually orchestrated Danika’s kidnapping.
What would his motives be? Eustace thought of Danika moving in with Evan.
If he kept up the wheelchair pretense, Danika would be by his side forever.
That was probably his motive.
