On the other side, the director’s team gathered the materials needed for the symbolic talisman. Rebecca sat down with the child on her lap, and the live stream camera focused on her. Zac and the others came over to take a look.
She skillfully drew a warding-off evil spirits talisman with cinnabar on a piece of paper, then folded it into a triangle. Next, she used a red string to string it and hung it around the child’s neck. Then, she took a few more pieces of paper and folded them into small frogs, bunnies, pigs, and cats. She handed them to the child to play with and swapped out the lucky coin he was holding.
With the talisman, he no longer needed to use the lucky coin. The child’s attention was quickly captivated by the paper animals. He played with them happily, giggling.
‘Rebecca can actually make paper animals.’
‘After folding them, she even drew on them, giving them life.’
‘Rebecca, you’re so skilled. I want to touch your hand.’
‘Rebecca, is there anything you can’t do?’
‘Rebecca, your hands are so dexterous. I want to caress them.’
A bunch of fans praised Rebecca’s dexterity.
Soon, some dissenting voices emerged.
‘Rebecca may be skilled in some things, but her character is questionable.’
‘Exactly. I can’t believe she’s Aaron’s cousin, yet she’s so ungrateful.’
‘If Aaron doesn’t give her resources, she teams up with other top-tier stars in the livestream to cause a scene. She’s even confrontational with Aaron. She’s so disrespectful and ungrateful.’
‘This is a classic case of biting the hand that feeds you. Rebecca is a classic ungrateful woman who can’t be satisfied.’
‘I used to like her, but now I just want to block her. She has really poor character.’
Among those leading the negative comments were the followers that Titus had hired, and they were joined by Aaron’s fans and Rosie’s fans.
Upon seeing these comments, Rebecca’s fans were speechless.
‘How do you know that they’re cousins?’
‘Just because it’s said online, it must be true? Where are your brains?’
‘Stop spreading rumors. As long as Rebecca doesn’t personally admit that they’re cousins, I won’t believe it.’
I find it hard to believe that Rebecca would ask Aaron for resources, and when he refused, she would cause a commotion during a live stream.
Exactly; based on the latest live stream, it seems quite evident that Aaron and Jojo are hiding something.
Those individuals making these comments are intentionally trying to tarnish Rebecca’s reputation.
Previously, these same people claimed that children could easily distinguish between good and bad.
Now, they are seeking attention once again. Do they want to continue embarrassing themselves?
Apart from a few skeptics, the majority of Rebecca’s fans didn’t believe it. Many of Zac’s fans also joined in to refute the claims.
Regardless, they all shared the same attitude: they would only believe what Rebecca herself stated. This surprised Titus. Clearly, he hadn’t expected Rebecca’s fans, whom she had gained through this variety show, to be so loyal.
However, now that the narrative was established, he didn’t pay much attention to Rebecca’s fans’ opinions. As long as the general public believed it, it was fine.
After some time, Ross came to invite Rebecca and the others for dinner. Before leaving, Rebecca went to the restroom, and the live stream camera naturally didn’t follow her.
When she emerged, Jonah waved at her. Rebecca noticed him and walked over to the corner where he was standing.
Jonah had already spoken to the cameraman beforehand, so when Rebecca appeared, the cameraman continued to focus on Zac and the others without turning the camera towards her.
As Rebecca approached Jonah, he asked in a low voice, “Are you Aaron’s cousin?”
Rebecca immediately realized that the online rumors had been fueled by the despicable efforts of Sc*mbag No. 2 and the hired trolls.
Shaking her head, she replied, “No.”
Jonah understood that someone had paid internet trolls to slander Rebecca. He informed her about the trending topics circulating online, cautioning her, “The trending topics online are solidifying the false narrative against you. It’s not in your favor. You should think of a way to address this. Once the show ends tomorrow and you’re back, we’ll find a way to clear things up.”
He added, “If necessary, I can help you take down the trending topics.”
Seeing the worry in Jonah’s eyes, Rebecca felt touched. Not everyone was like the Collins Family or Leon.
“Thank you, Jonah, for your concern, but there’s no need to take down the trending topics,” Rebecca assured him. “Let the rumors spread; the more they talk, the better.”
Rebecca didn’t explicitly confirm anything on the livestream, and she even let Rosie change the subject. She was sure that Titus wouldn’t sit idly by and would try to stir up trouble, which he did. She deliberately allowed them to continue spreading rumors. Relying solely on the popularity of the variety show wouldn’t be enough.
The trending topics from the past two days had caused quite a stir, making things known throughout the entire internet.
When the truth was revealed, that’s when things would get even more interesting.
Seeing Rebecca in this state, Jonah realized he was worrying too much.
He chuckled. “It seems like you planned this intentionally.”
Since Rebecca wanted the situation to escalate, he decided to let it be for now. He lowered his voice and asked, “Can you reveal your relationship with Aaron? It will help me prepare for the next episode. Of course, I won’t tell anyone until you’re ready to reveal it yourself.”
Jonah had always been curious about the true relationship between Rebecca and the siblings. He wanted to get a taste of this juicy piece of gossip.
Rebecca didn’t hold back and replied, “We’re biological siblings.”
Jonah’s eyes widened in shock. “Biological siblings? So, you and Rosie are also biological sisters?”
Upon closer reflection, Rebecca did bear a resemblance to Aaron, but not so much to Rosie. If they were real sisters, with such a public spat on the live broadcast, their private relationship must be very strained.
Rebecca shook her head. “She’s adopted while
I’m biological. My ex-family favors her more than me, though. They hate me.”
Jonah was once again taken aback. The revelation was even juicier than expected.
“Your family prefers your adopted sister over you, their biological daughter?” He couldn’t fathom it. “What do you mean by ‘ex-family?'”
There seemed to be more to the story.
Rebecca didn’t mince words when it came to the Collins Family and Aaron. She briefly explained her background, “When I was a child, Aaron lost me, and then, before coming on the show, I had already cut ties with them.”
Jonah listened, processed the information, and nearly let out a curse. “Aaron is truly something else.”
It wasn’t hard to see why Rebecca, with her normally good-natured demeanor, treated Aaron so poorly. Losing a biological sister, only to favor an adopted one upon her return – what kind of logic was that? Doesn’t he feel any guilt in his heart? Doesn’t he want to make amends for his mistakes?
“You did well to cut ties with them,” Jonah commented, clearly frustrated with Aaron and the Collins Family’s behavior. The Collins Family’s members were no better. They found their biological daughter, only to intentionally let their adopted daughter trample all over her. Something’s seriously wrong with them.
Rebecca observed Jonah’s reaction and felt reassured. Most people would probably react like him and be unable to fathom such a situation. She was looking forward to what Aaron and Rosie would face when the truth came out.
“So, since they showed no mercy, they can’t blame me for being ruthless later,” Rebecca stated matter-of-factly. She was mentally preparing Jonah, making it clear that she wouldn’t back down.
