I only nodded silently, hoping it was enough.

After Peter left, I tiptoed into the living room and paused beside the sofa.

My gaze landed on the divorce agreement I’d taken to Crawford Group yesterday.

The one that got me nowhere.

They’d told me Declan wasn’t in the office.

But moments later, Peter was summoned back, only to get slapped with a breach of contract notice.

My fingers curled into fists, my nails biting into my skin. My wolf growled low in my chest, the sound vibrating through me.

Declan… what exactly are you trying to do to me?

Declan’s POV

The top floor of Crawford Group was quiet for anyone who wasn’t me. I sat behind my desk, flipping through documents without absorbing a single word. My wolf paced beneath my skin, restless, irritated.

Every page I turned felt like sandpaper against my patience.

Collins, my beta and assistant, stood beside me, his voice low and overly cautious.”Alpha Declan, Mr. Peter Clinton is the firm’s star attorney, right up there with Ms. Sophia Darvin…”

My eyes didn’t so much as twitch. It was cold and bored.

Of course he was talking about Peter Clinton.

I let out a dry laugh, finally cutting him a glance sharp enough to make him flinch.”Oh? So now that Peter is gone, the entire Crawford Group is going to collapse?”

The way Collins stiffened told me enough.

My wolf smirked at the scent of his fear.

Peter wasn’t the problem. He’d been valuable, but replaceable.

The real issue was that he’d taken Evelyn in.

He’d stepped into territory that didn’t belong to him.

Collins kept his head bowed, pretending to meditate on the floor, probably praying to every deity he knew.

He was probably thinking about the plan I’d laid out. About how far I was willing to go.

He had no idea.

Peter might have been a rising star, brilliant and respected. A wolf among sheep in the courtroom.

And now?

He’d just clawed himself right into my bad side.

My wolf growled low in satisfaction. You don’t touch what’s mine.

A knock at the door snapped the air. The secretary peeked in like she expected to be burned alive.”Alpha Declan, Mr. Clinton is here.”

I rested my elbows on the desk. Speak of the devil…A cold pulse flickered through my eyes.

Then I smiled, a curve of my lips with no warmth or humanity.

“Let him in.”

Moments later, Peter and I sat across from each other with only a coffee table separating us.

I narrowed my eyes, studying him. Really looking at him for the first time.

This man who dared hide my mate from me. This man who thought he could tangle with an Alpha’s luna.

After a long silence, I finally spoke, my voice curling with disdain.

“Thirty million dollars. You raised it that fast?”

Declan’s POV

He held my gaze. Was he trying to be brave? Or stupid?

My wolf leaned forward, testing him.

Peter sneered.”You came after me so aggressively, Alpha Declan. Was it just to force Evelyn back to your side?”

He didn’t dodge, he didn’t cower.

He called her by her name like he had any right to do so.

The room froze.

The temperature dropped with my mood. Even the air tasted sharp and metallic.

A chilling aura seeped from me, but Peter didn’t flinch.

Collins, though, looked like he might pass out on the spot.

He must probably be having some panick thoughts:

Wondering if Peter had a death wish.

I thought he came here to plead with me.

Instead, the idiot was challenging me head-on.

I let the silence stretch until even the walls seemed to tremble under it.

Then my voice sliced through the air, cold and lethal.

“Peter, Evelyn is my wife and to you, she is Luna Evelyn, don’t you ever fail to address her as that next time. What exactly are your intentions, hiding her away?”

The slight lift at the end of the sentence wasn’t an accident. It was a threat.

But Peter still didn’t back down.

“Luna Evelyn should’ve already delivered the divorce papers. To the best of my knowledge, she doesn’t want to stay married to you anymore”

And with that, the room didn’t just turn cold, It became a frozen wasteland.

My wolf bared his teeth, and deep inside my chest, something dark and possessive uncoiled.

My eyes narrowed on Peter, sharp as a predator locking onto prey. My wolf prowled beneath my skin, hackles lifting, scenting his confidence like it was a challenge.

“So what?” I said, my voice low and cold.”She wants a divorce, and that makes you happy? You have feelings for her?”

He didn’t answer, he didn’t need to.

His silence stank of truth.

A bitter laugh tore from my throat. I leaned back, staring him down with all the disdain I felt burning in my chest.

“I’m not signing that agreement,” I said flatly.”And as long as I don’t, she’s still my wife.”

My wolf snarled possessively at the word wife.

“I can’t believe Evelyn-of all people-” I scoffed,”a convict who stole someone else’s work-can still attract men like you.”

Sarcasm dripped from my tongue like poison.

“And to think, I gave you a job. Turns out I was feeding a snake.”

Whatever expression had been on my face before vanished.

What remained was ice. Pure, hard fury.

Peter’s brows pulled together. He clenched his fists, but his voice stayed maddeningly calm.”Luna Evelyn is someone worth admiring.”

My palm slammed onto the desk with a crack, vibrating through the room.

My wolf surged forward, its teeth bared.

“‘Worth admiring,’ huh? Evelyn?” I growled.”Peter, you really have the nerve to fall for my wife.”

My palm stayed pressed to the table as my body tensed, every instinct screaming to leap across and tear his throat out.

He lowered his lashes, silent again.
