Leonard didn’t, their efforts would have been in vain.
Eustace glanced at her and chuckled helplessly, “Do you have so little confidence in me?
Do you think I can’t handle him?”
Although Leonard had an unyielding personality and was not easily manipulated by others, Eustace understood men to a certain extent.
In terms of interests, Eustace offered something Leonard would find hard to refuse. In terms of romance, Stephanie was there, giving him less reason to refuse Eustace’s invitation.
Just then, Leonard appeared at the entrance of the restaurant. To Danika’s surprise,
Stephanie arrived with him. The sight of them made Danika smile instantly, wondering if it was fate that they came at the same time.
Danika waved at the two of them, gesturing for them to come over and sit down.
Stephanie sat next to Danika, while Leonard naturally sat next to Eustace.
The two men didn’t say much, just nodded at each other in greeting.
“Did you come together?” Danika asked. She was curious as Leonard didn’t need to drive past the Zelliot family’s place if he had come from the police station.
Stephanie glanced at Leonard, who said, “I went to pick Stephanie up.”
Danika was surprised. She had intended to matchmake these two, but looking at the situation, it seemed there was no need for her to do that.
“Mr. Sullivan, you really care about Stephanie,” Danika commented with a grin, and her words could not be more direct.
Stephanie hurriedly waved her hand and explained, “You are thinking too much.
Leonard just wanted to catch up with me regarding our other classmates, so he came to pick me up.”
Leonard smiled faintly and kept quiet. He said to Danika,” Just call me Leonard. You are Stephanie’s friend, and any friend of Stephanie’s is a friend of mine.”
Danika grinned. Did Stephanie think that Danika was thinking too much? Perhaps
Stephanie was the one thinking too little.
After placing their order, the four of them began to chat. Danika asked Leonard many questions as she wanted to understand what kind of person he was and whether he was worth Stephanie’s affection. The more she got to know him, the more satisfied she was with Leonard, and it showed through the stupid grin on her face.
Seeing through her, Stephanie blushed in embarrassment.
Pulling Danika up, she announced, “You guys carry on. Danika and I will go to the restroom.”
Without waiting for Danika to speak, she pulled her toward the restroom.
After the two of them left, the table suddenly fell silent.
Leonard and Eustace were not familiar with each other, and there was not much to say between the two men.
However, Eustace had come to meet Leonard today for a reason. “Mr. Sullivan, have you ever thought about your future?”
Leonard looked at him and said, “Of course. If I hadn’t thought about it, I wouldn’t have agreed when you invited me, Mr. Quincey.” Eustace had been looking for him, and he had some guesses as to why.
“That’s not necessarily true. Since you knew that Stephanie would be here, wouldn’t you come even if I didn’t?”
Before that, it had only been a hunch. However, from their interactions over dinner, it was clear that Leonard was interested in Stephanie. Truth be told, it had nothing to do with Eustace, and he was even happy for them.
However, at the thought of his friend Paul, he decided he should stand by him.
Do You Still Like Him?
Leonard smiled as he took a sip from his glass.
“Do you really need to ask that, Mr. Quincey?” Eustace returned his smile. If it wasn’t for
Paul, he would think that Leonard and Stephanie were quite suitable for each other.
He sighed inwardly and worried about Paul. How could he deal with such a strong competitor?
“Mr. Quincey, why don’t we talk about our cooperation?” He was unfamiliar with Eustace and didn’t want to talk to him about Stephanie. Eustace regained his composure and began explaining the cooperation he had in mind.
Meanwhile, in the restroom, Stephanie was annoyed with Danika.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Danika asked, a little puzzled.
“What are you trying to do? Why did you ask Leonard so many questions?” Stephanie pretended to be displeased. Although she knew that Danika meant no harm, asking so many questions on their first meeting was inappropriate. Although they had met at the police station before, this was their first proper meeting.
Danika’s grin grew wider, and she replied, “I just want to get to know Leonard better.”
“What do you want to know about him? And are you planning to dump Eustace for him?”
Stephanie gave her a look that showed that she thought Danika was making a fuss about nothing.
Danika couldn’t stop smiling. “Why did I ask him those questions? What do you think?”
Stephanie happened to meet Danika’s gaze, so it was too late for her to back out. “I don’t know.”
“Really? Then why is your face turning red?” Danika asked.
Stephanie reached out and touched her face, feeling a little hot. Even if she didn’t look in the mirror, she could imagine how red her cheeks were. “Well, it’s pretty cold in here.”
Danika gave her a look.
“Okay, Stephanie, quit playing pretend with me. Leonard is interested in you. Can’t you see that?” Danika asked.
Stephanie fell silent.
“I think he’s a good person, so I just want to ask you, what do you think of him?”
Danika continued to speak.
Although Stephanie knew what Danika was trying to do, she still found it hard to digest when Danika confronted her about it.
“Danika, since when did you start playing matchmaker?
You’re not Cupid. Why do you care so much?”
“Well, I can choose not to care about other people’s business, but I’m afraid that doesn’t apply to you.” Danika rolled her eyes. As a friend, she couldn’t just stand by and watch Stephanie waste her time with Paul, especially since she had always felt that Stephanie and Paul were not very suitable for each other.
Stephanie grew up pampered by her family and was a carefree little princess. She needed a man who could take care of her for the rest of her life so that she could continue living an ordinary, carefree life.
Obviously, Paul couldn’t give her that because his life was too complicated. Before
Stephanie officially got together with him, there were already so many problems. Who knew what might happen in the future if they were really together?
Stephanie felt a bit anxious, not because of Danika’s confrontation, but because of the turmoil she felt inside.
“Danika, I know that Leonard is an excellent man, but I really don’t feel that way about him right now.” Stephanie sighed, feeling a little frustrated.
Danika didn’t press the topic further. Instead, she said, “We didn’t call for dinner today only to set you two up. In fact, Eustace has something to discuss with him, so don’t think too much about it. The most important thing is, what kind of feelings do you have towards Paul? Do you still like him?”
Aren’t You Busy?
Danika and Stephanie returned to the dining table to see Leonard and Eustace chatting happily. It seemed that their cooperation was going well.
Danika turned to look at Stephanie. She didn’t get an answer to her question when she asked Stephanie whether she still liked Paul. Stephanie said she didn’t know.
Although she had rejected that man many times, she would occasionally think of him and couldn’t let go of their past as easily as she had imagined. It didn’t seem right if she said she didn’t have any feelings for him.
“Stephanie,” Leonard called. He was sitting opposite her, looking at her. “What are you thinking about?”
He noticed that Stephanie’s gaze drifted off, and she didn’t react when he helped her with the food.
“Huh? Nothing,” Stephanie said, feeling a bit embarrassed. There was no way she could admit that she had been thinking about Paul.
“If there’s anything I can help with, let me know. Don’t be shy, ” Leonard said. They weren’t close to each other, even though they were old classmates who hadn’t seen each other for many years. In fact, their relationship was not much different from that of strangers. Therefore, he wasn’t in a rush, as any relationship needed time to grow.
Stephanie nodded, although she did not quite understand what Leonard meant. Did she need any help? She didn’t know.
Seeing the two of them fall into silence, Danika felt frustrated. “Leonard, are you alone in Bardoff City now? Are you married?”
“Yes, I’m alone in Bardoff City, and I’m not married,” Leonard replied.
Danika had guessed he wasn’t married, but she still wanted to make sure. “Then you should be rather bored after work, right?”
“I’m alright. I work overtime a lot,” Leonard answered. There was a lot of work at the police station, and he worked late into the night every day, so he wasn’t that bored.
Danika smiled and said, “We can all hang out if we’re free. Stephanie and I are usually not that busy.”
Well, it was mainly Stephanie who wasn’t busy.
“Alright,” Leonard agreed. He could see that Danika was trying to set him up with
Stephanie, which was fine with him. It seemed that his chances of success had increased a little.
“Aren’t you busy?” Eustace asked her with a hint of annoyance in his voice.
Danika grinned and nodded. “Not really, actually. Well, I’m not as busy as you, that’s for sure.”
