Jade couldn’t deny her feelings of gratitude for him.
“Is that all I get?” Max huffed.
“Huh? What else do you want?” Jade blinked. She didn’t know how else to thank him. It’s not like he was in need of anything.
Max rolled his eyes. How dense could this woman be? Before Jade could say anything more, she was cradled into his arms in the next second.
“You don’t need to act tough in front of me, you know. It’s okay if you want to cry.”
For some reason, Jade’s eyes welled up with tears. It had been so long since someone was so gentle and sincere with her.
Still, she held back her tears, only lying motionlessly in Max’s arms.
Meanwhile, Danika had gone back downstairs with Alfred, walking right up to the receptionist. She knocked on the front desk, jerking the woman back to her senses.
The receptionist quivered just the slightest, asking, “What…what do you want?”
“Come with me to the police station.”
“What—why?! I told you everything I knew!”
The receptionist shrieked, stepping back, fearing that Danika might drag her there.
Here’s Some Advice
Danika snorted aloud, finding the receptionist ridiculous.She wasn’t this concerned about the police when helping Hayden attempt to rape Jade earlier.
Did she never imagine herself getting caught one day?
“Don’t worry.You just need to make a statement, that’s all.” Danika replied.
To Danika, people like this receptionist, who knew exactly what Hayden had planned to do yet did nothing to stop him, were no more than accessories to the crime.
What was most important was making sure Hayden was punished, though.
As long as the woman made her statement honestly, there was nowhere Hayden could run to.
The receptionist heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing she only needed to make a statement.She still asked hesitantly, Are you sure that’s it?”
“Of course.You didn’t actually commit a crime, did you?” Danika sneered.
“N-no, of course not!”
The receptionist hurriedly shook her head.
Danika said nothing else, only leaving the hotel with Alfred behind her.
The man wasn’t in a hurry to leave.He ended up driving both Danika and the receptionist to the police station.
The instant Danika entered the station, loud, annoying screeches grated on her ears.
“No! No way in hell! My husband would never do that! He must’ve been set up by Jade Weston.He must have! That bitch has had a grudge against my husband for who-knows- how-long, so she’d definitely be up to something like this.Please, you have to help my husband, sir!”
Oh, nearly perfect, Danika thought.If only Hayden was the victim here, then the woman’s cries would be 100% convincing.
The woman overheard Danika’s snort of laughter as she approached them.
“You know just how evil Hayden Lowe is.Do you really think playing the victim on his behalf is going to help his case right now? ” Danika asked.
Though she’d never met the woman, figuring out who she was didn’t take much.
After all, who else would be defending Hayden right now save for his mistress? Maria glanced at Danika, looking upset.
“Who are you to butt in, huh?” Danika ignored her, turning to the cop she’d been speaking to.
“This is the receptionist from the site of the crime.She can attest to Hayden Lowe’s attempted rape crime.”
“Really?”
The officer looked at the receptionist, who briefly wanted to run away, but still decided to nod.She was then brought away to make her statement.
No way in hell would Hayden escape the law now, Danika thought.
Maria was left stunned.
There was even a witness to the crime?! Her shock was then colored with anger.
That jackass Hayden still had feelings for fucking Jade Weston!
“I take it you’re Hayden Lowe’s wife?”Danika asked.
“Who are you? A friend of Jade’s?” Maria asked cautiously.
Danika neither answered nor denied it.
Instead, she said, “Hayden will likely be imprisoned for this.If I were you, I’d start thinking about how to step out of the situation without bearing losses.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re not a shareholder in Hayden’s company, are you? Ever wondered what that means for you if he’s imprisoned?” Danika said with a menacing grin.
Maria blinked in surprise, then in fear, suddenly understanding what she was implying.She’d been living off of Hayden for the past few years, never getting a job or saving much money.
If Hayden went to jail, his company would collapse too.
At that point, no one would be there to support Maria anymore.
Shit.
“Here’s some friendly advice, find a way to get the majority shares from Hayden.Once you have them, I can buy them out of your hands and handle the company from there.You won’t bear any losses, I promise.”
As for how this woman would get those shares, Danika didn’t give a damn.All she knew was the woman wouldn’t just sit by and watch her only pillar of support crumble away.
Did Danika Send You?
“Really?” Maria asked, still cautious about Danika’s intentions.
“I don’t stand to gain from lying to you. You can choose not to believe me, but it’s your loss.” Danika shrugged.
Her plan was to liquidate Hayden’s company, ensuring he never had a chance to rise again once he fulfilled his sentence. Not having Maria sell her those shares would only be a small bump in her journey to destroy the company—she could just employ other ways.”
“I..I’ll do it!”
No way would Maria go down with Hayden Lowe! Danika snorted, then gave Maria her number before leaving the station.She needn’t concern herself with what Maria chose to do next.
After leaving and seeing that Alfred was still outside waiting for her, Danika nodded gently, “Thank you for waiting on me.”
“I’m happy to help.Jade is my colleague, after all.”
Danika had Alfred drive her back, then he returned to Jeneration Group to work.
Meanwhile, Yvonne was getting annoyed lying in her ward.
Brandon had entirely abandoned her, while things only seemed to be improving for Danika and not for her.
How could she possibly cope with that? Just then, the door to her ward opened.
Assuming it was Brandon, Yvonne cooed, “You’re finally here, Mr.Britt~ I knew you still cared about me.I know you’re getting married soon…I’m not fit to be your wife, this I know, but I truly do love you.I did some thinking these past few days, and I’d still want to be by your side even though we’re not official!”
However, her efforts to move Brandon went to waste when it turned out to be Evan Clarke.
The man slowly walked up to Yvonne, startling her.She tried to hide but to no avail, frightened by his menacing appearance.
“W- who are you?”
Before Evan could answer, Yvonne seemed to remember him.
“Did Danika send you? Stay away from me—“
“Hmph.Vain little bitch.Danika has no time to deal with the likes of you.I’m here on my own behalf.” Evan’s voice was cold as ice.
Yvonne’s scalp prickled; this man wasn’t here for any good reason.
“What? Why? I don’t know you.”
All she recalled was that he somehow knew Danika, though exactly who he was remained a mystery to her.
“True.We don’t know one another, nor do I have a reason to come see you.” Yvonne gulped fearfully.
“But if memory serves me right, you were the one responsible for almost killing Danika when that damn suicide bomber Randy showed up at her event, yes?” Evan hissed.
Six feet apart, Yvonne could still feel the hostility wafting off him.She was sure he could feel how terrified she was now too.
“You…what do you want from me?” Yvonne stammered out weakly.
Evan sneered.
“Luckily for you, I’m not in the mood to get any more blood on my hands for the time being.” Yvonne began to quiver under her bed covers.
