At that thought, she called Melissa to ask her to investigate the matter. Melissa was already succeeding at managing the bar. The intel gathered was growing. Danika trusted her. However, she was so anxious that she drove toward Quincey Manor. She had to know what it all was.

But when she arrived, she realized a herd of reporters surrounded the place. Several bodyguards were standing at the gates. No one could go in.

Danika’s heart was beating hard. Thankfully, Melissa called. Although she had not yet made sense of what had happened, she had found out the place where Eustace had fallen. Danika wasted no time rushing over.

When she knew that it had happened at a turf club newly opened by Luke, Danika could guess what had happened. She couldn’t help feeling angry. Eustace had not taken his safety into account at all.

Luke definitely did not have good intentions of inviting him over. Why did he go? Danika rushed over to the club with those thoughts in mind. She could not calm herself down at all. It was now that she realized how much she cared for Eustace.

But what a pity it was that she only figured it out now. It seemed too late. All she could do now was pray that nothing had happened to Eustace.

When she got to the club, it was fenced up by the security guards. No one could go in.

They said that they were still looking for him and that things were still chaotic.

Danika didn’t believe a word they said. These were Luke’s henchmen. Even if they did find Eustace, Luke would not let him go.

When they weren’t paying attention, she snuck into the club and ran toward the cliff.

There were plenty of people still searching. When Danika wondered if Luke had a heart after all, she heard the security guards murmuring, “Where did he go? He can’t be alive, falling from such a high place.” “Stop chatting. Find him! If he runs, the boss will have our heads!” They began searching more fervently, failing to notice Danika not far off.

A Solid Reason

Danika was feeling a whirlwind of emotions. She was glad that they hadn’t found him.

Yet, she worried about him.

She still had no clue what had happened. However, based on what they said, Eustace was dead in their eyes, which meant he was in bad shape.

She began looking as well, but the reality of it was grim. She had to focus on finding him on top of keeping herself hidden. It was slow progress. The only silver lining was that they had not found him either, so he could have survived.

She was about to keep searching, but then her phone rang. She was stunned.

On the quiet cliff, a single word uttered would have been loud. And this was a ringtone. Danika was instantly discovered.

“Someone’s there!”

“Look over there!”

A swarm of security guards moved toward her. Danika ran while talking on the phone.

She felt even worse listening to Melissa’s description of everything that had happened. Eustace had even been shot before falling down the cliff!

Her worry was boundless, but she didn’t have the time to think. She had to lose the security guards coming after her. Otherwise, she’d be killed before even getting to find Eustace.

“Follow me!”

A silhouette appeared before her. Before she could react, he pulled her in another direction.

“Paul? Why are you here?” Danika was bewildered. Even if news of Eustace’s incident had mspread, Paul couldn’t be there so early.

Paul didn’t answer her question. If it weren’t for the fact that Danika meant so much to Eustace, he wouldn’t have cared whether she lived.

Quickly, Danika was stunned once more.

There was a helicopter on the mountain!

Paul pushed Danika in. There were already quite a few people in it. There were even two doctors tending to Eustace’s wounds.

The helicopter rose in the air. The security guards rushed over, but it was pointless.

They had seen the helicopter ages ago, but they thought it belonged to the Quinceys, which was why they didn’t bother checking it. They didn’t think that it belonged to someone else. If they did, they wouldn’t have watched them escape right before their eyes!

In the helicopter, Danika looked at Eustace, who was still unconscious. She was slowly figuring things out. She looked at Paul and asked, ‘Did you know early on that something would happen to him?”

“It wasn’t me. It was him.’ Before Eustace went to the club, he had arranged everything.

“Why did he go if he knew that something was going to happen? Wasn’t he afraid of an accident?” Danika was a little angry. Despite his seemingly perfect plan, anything could have gone wrong.

Paul looked at her and said, “Since he chose to go, there had to be a solid reason.”

“You…” Danika didn’t know what to say.”

Paul was Eustace’s friend, yet when he knew of something like this, he agreed instead of pulling Eustace back.

Paul was exasperated, too. When Eustace told him his plan, he opposed it. However, they both knew of Eustace’s personality. When he had made up his mind, no one could do anything to change it.

All that he could do was ensure that nothing happened to Eustace. He arranged for a helicopter to stay at the club early on so that if anything happened, they could leave in the fastest way possible. However, he didn’t expect Eustace to be wounded so badly.

Just like Danika said, a perfect plan could not guarantee that accidents wouldn’t happen.

Who Would Have Thought

When Luke heard that there was a helicopter on the premises, he nearly fainted. How could no one have told him about the helicopter? Wouldn’t he have detected something amiss if he had known?

Anger surged in his heart. But then, he looked at the emergency room not far off. He suppressed the anger. He couldn’t rush over now. He could only pray that Eustace was already dead. If he were alive, and his father was the one who died, Luke would faint from anger.

Soon, the lights above the emergency room went off. The doctor walked out. ‘I’m sorry. We have tried our best.”

“What did you say? You fucking piece of trash!” Luke wanted to rush forward to hit him.

With a loud bang, Zeke brought his cane down on the floor. Luke had no choice but to control himself.

Zeke sighed, seeming older. “Make the arrangements.”

“Alright.” The butler nodded. He couldn’t imagine how something like this could have happened.

Wasn’t this the day of Eustace’s death? How could Xavier be the one who died instead?

Zeke turned and left the hospital. Luke didn’t know which way to go for a moment. He stayed in his spot.

“Come here!” Thankfully, Zeke ordered him to go over.

Luke sighed in relief. His father was dead, but Zeke had not forgotten his grandson.

As long as Zeke did not give up on him, Luke had a chance.

As for the dead Xavier, Luke did not feel too aggrieved about it. He was merely angry.

Being murdered in his own house was a great humiliation to the Quinceys.

Zeke walked to the entrance and sighed, feeling better. “How are things on Eustace’s side?”

“What are you talking about, Grandpa?’ Luke acted dumb. He knew that Zeke did not like internal politics, so he kept this a secret.

Zeke looked at him, exasperated. “Did you think your father would dare to bring out the guns without my permission?”

It was then that realization dawned on Luke. A mixture of emotions stirred in his heart.

Amongst them was a grumble. “Grandpa, why did you bring him over to Bardoff City to fight us for the position if you wanted him dead as well?”

If not for this abrupt gesture, Xavier would have become the new head of the Quincey family, and Luke would be the next heir. Nothing like this would have happened.

The old man sighed. “I wanted to train you both. But who would have thought…’

Who would have thought that his heirs would be so incapable. On the other hand, Eustace was too capable. That was what had caused the tragedy tonight.

For a moment, Luke didn’t know what to say. He pursed his lips, remaining silent.

“I take it that the plan did not work with Eustace?” Zeke sighed once more. He had agreed to it in secret. They thought it would be perfect. However, they had underestimated Eustace.

Luke nodded but then shook his head. “He should have died under those circumstances. But then, we couldn’t find his corpse. And now they say that a helicopter has left the turf club. It’s probably…” he trailed off, too embarrassed to say any more.

“A helicopter?” Zeke frowned. “So it seems like Eustace was prepared.”

Who Knows

Luke didn’t retort. It was obvious now that Eustace, indeed, had prepared himself.

“Grandpa, why did he come even though he knew we would attack him? Isn’t that just asking for trouble?”

He couldn’t figure out why Eustace would do something like that. What was the point?

“He is clever. He would not do something to endanger his life on purpose unless he had a reason.” Zeke understood that about Eustace.

Luke only understood half of it. “What reason?”

“I don’t know yet.” Zeke frowned. He hadn’t figured it out.

Luke changed the topic. “Who killed my father? The surviving bodyguards said a group of people rushed in and started firing. They were chaotic.”

“Yes. It was chaos.” Even the Quinceys had chosen to assassinate Eustace in the mountains. They were not as arrogant as Xavier’s killers, who seemed to disregard consequences.

Zeke stared into the distance, deep in thought. Luke was upset. “Are we going to take this lying down? We have to avenge my father, don’t we?”

“Lying down?” Zeke smiled coldly. “They killed my son. Do they think the Quinceys are going to just let it go?”

Luke felt better when Zeke said that. They were going to turn Bardoff City inside out. By hook or by crook, they would find that group of killers.
