Evan was somewhat annoyed, but he kept a smile on his face, trying not to show too much emotion in front of Eustace.
Eustace chuckled, not answering the question. ‘Let’s discuss how to proceed then.”
“Killing Xavier is doable, but Luke should be dealt with too. I really can’t stand him.’
After all, he was always pestering Danika, which was annoying to watch.
You Stalker
Unexpectedly, Eustace shook his head, his expression solemn. “If Xavier is dead, Luke won’t be able to cause much trouble. And if two people from the Quincey family die at once, you won’t be able to withstand Zeke’s wrath.”
The head of the Quincey family wasn’t to be trifled with. It wouldn’t matter if Evan’s men were brought in from abroad; if Zeke got serious, not a single one of them would be spared, and Evan himself might even end up in trouble too.
“That’s true.” Evan understood the reasoning as well. He just wanted to see if Eustace was intentionally trying to get him killed. However, the result surprised him.
“Don’t worry. We’re working with each other now. I won’t knowingly send you to your death.’ Eustace glanced at him, once again able to tell what he was thinking.
Evan sneered coldly and said, “I find it more desirable to work with Xavier to kill you rather than help you kill him.” Eustace was even more detestable than Luke, and the threat he posed was even greater.
“Is that so? Are you really going to do that?” Eustace remained calm, smiling as he looked at Evan, showing no signs of panic.
Evan felt a little uneasy seeing the way he behaved. He couldn’t help but think Eustace was hiding something and hadn’t revealed all his cards yet.
His gaze fell on the restaurant entrance. Noticing Danika and Luke were coming out,
Evan immediately wound up his car window and said, “Send me the details.” He then started the car engine and left swiftly.
By the time Eustace realized what was going on, Danika and Luke had already reached the entrance of the restaurant and naturally spotted him standing there.
They both frowned, especially Luke, who was extremely peeved at seeing him.
‘What’re you doing here, Eustace.”
“Just passing by,” Eustace responded.
“Passing by? Don’t tell me you’re stalking Danika,” Luke sneered, finding it hard to believe such a coincidence.
Sure enough, the moment he suggested that, Danika was visibly displeased. She’d been suspecting Eustace was stalking her, and the constant feeling of being watched made her feel very uncomfortable. She felt she was deprived of the freedom to do anything without falling under his gaze.
However, she held back her anger in Luke’s presence. Instead, she told him, “Mr. Luke, you should head back. I hope we can work well with each other in the future.”
“I’ll drive you back.” Luke didn’t want Danika and Eustace to be alone together. He’d finally made some progress with Danika and didn’t want Eustace to interfere.
Unfortunately for Luke, Danika had no interest in him at all. If it hadn’t been for the sake of their future collaboration, she wouldn’t have agreed to have a meal with him in the first place. “There’s no need. I want to stroll around some more,” Danika said.
Luke nodded and left, knowing that Danika was just placating him, but he didn’t want to offend her either. After all, he’d barely made any progress, so it didn’t make sense to piss her off right away.
As he walked past Eustace, he whispered, “Danika is mine!’
After saying that, he left, not caring about Eustace’s reaction. He was determined to win Danika over.
Eustace couldn’t help but smile when he heard his words, showing no signs of anger at all. He was pretty darn sure Danika wouldn’t like him anyway.
When he came back to his senses, Danika was standing right in front of him. “Have you been stalking me?”
“No.” Eustace shook his head. Fearing she wouldn’t believe him, he quickly explained, “I was keeping an eye on Luke. I heard that he was having dinner with you, and I was worried, so I came to check.’
“Really?” Danika was skeptical but also thought it was reasonable for Eustace to have someone watching Luke, considering the chaos within the Quinceys.
Eustace nodded. “Yes, I know you don’t like being followed. I wouldn’t deliberately provoke you.”
Admit It
Danika felt a bit embarrassed at his words. “Sorry, I-‘
“It’s okay.” Eustace stopped her; he didn’t need Danika’s apology. “Do you have time to go for a walk together?”
“Sure.” This time, Danika didn’t refuse.
These days, she didn’t have her meals with Evan or Eustace. In fact, she was kind of avoiding them. She knew how both of them felt toward her, but the more she was aware of it, the less she wanted to think about it.
She could give a clear answer to Evan, but the same couldn’t be said for Eustace. Danika didn’t have an answer in her heart.
Eustace didn’t drive, so he walked with Danika along the roadside. They walked side by side, but neither spoke, yet the atmosphere wasn’t awkward.
There weren’t many people on the street at night, especially on the small path near the river where they were walking. Only a few sporadic night runners were around, making it particularly quiet.
“Is your work at the hospital going well?” Eustace asked as they walked. He asked it in a way as if they were old friends catching up; there wasn’t much emotion in those words.
Danika nodded and smiled. “It’s going well. I feel more suited to working in the hospital than taking over the company anyway.”
She didn’t have the ability or the interest to handle business matters.
“Well, that’s good. Zellweger Inc has professional managers overseeing everything.
Nothing untoward will happen.’ Eustace wanted to say that even if something did crop up, he would be there. But in the end, he didn’t say it out loud.
Danika murmured in agreement, and the two fell into silence again.
As they walked, an untimely sound suddenly came from the quiet path, which was lined with trees. They instinctively looked toward the source of the sound and froze instantly. In the distance, two lovers were kissing.
They were seemingly unaware of anyone approaching as they were still passionately kissing.
Danika’s cheeks turned uncontrollably red, and she walked forward quickly, feeling that the scene was too awkward.
Eustace, on the other hand, remained expressionless. However, upon seeing Danika blush, the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curve upward slightly. He looked amused at the sight. He caught up with Danika quickly and deliberately teased, “Are you shy?”
Danika stopped and glared at him. ‘I’m not. It’s just kissing. Everyone has done it before.”
At her age, if she admitted to being shy, she would definitely be mocked by Eustace, and she didn’t want that.
“Have you done it? With whom?” Eustace didn’t look pleased, and the thought of Danika kissing other men made him insanely jealous.
Danika looked at him with wide eyes, full of disbelief.
Was he serious? Did he just ask her, “With whom?” Who else could it be besides him?
Eustace seemed to quickly realize that as well, and the angry expression on his face disappeared instantly, replaced by a smile. “Have you only done it with me?”
“Eustace!” Danika exclaimed angrily, raising her hand to hit him.
However, her hand was ultimately unable to land on Eustace’s body. He grabbed it and pulled her into his embrace, whispering softly in her ear, “Do you want to try it again?”
Danika didn’t know how to reply. She was completely baffled, and before she could react, Eustace’s warm lips were already upon hers. Danika didn’t dare to move. She froze with her eyes open wide, seemingly unable to comprehend the situation.
“Weren’t we just having a stroll? How did we end up like this?” Danika thought. Eustace just pressed his lips on Danika’s for a very brief moment, not delving too deep.
But even so, he was already very delighted.
“Your heart is racing, Danika. Admit it. You still like me.”
Jerk!
If she didn’t like it, she would have pushed him away at the first instance, feeling repulsed by him or maybe even slapped him.
All that should have happened instead of what went on now-she neither pushed him away nor raised her hand against him, and her heartbeat was faster than usual.
Danika’s originally flushed cheeks were even redder now. Her cheeks were practically scarlet, looking like a ripe, delicious apple meant to be devoured.
When she regained her senses and wanted to slap Eustace, he didn’t give her a chance to do so. He lowered his head and planted another kiss on her lips. The unique scent of his breath came between their lips, and Danika was so dazed by the kiss that she lost all sense of her surroundings and couldn’t tell where she was for a moment.
“I told you this is a good place for kissing. Look at them. They’re even bolder than us.” A voice came behind them, presumably from the young couple they had seen earlier.
Danika’s face turned even redder at that, and she forcefully pushed Eustace away. She then walked briskly ahead, feeling too embarrassed to face anyone.
Eustace turned to nod at the young couple not far away. If it hadn’t been for them, he and
Danika might not have gotten closer tonight. He quickly caught up with Danika on the side of the street. The surroundings were now brightly lit- it was obviously inappropriate for him to attempt his earlier stunt again.
Eustace cleared his throat and walked up to Danika. “It’s late. Let me take you home.”
“Okay,” Danika replied softly, following Eustace.
They walked in the direction of the restaurant. Both of them acted as if nothing had happened just now. From Danika’s viewpoint, Eustace looked serious now, showing no signs of the wild passion he exhibited earlier.
She was a little disgruntled. “What’s this? He kissed me and acted like nothing had happened. What a jerk!” Danika cursed in her heart.
Eustace didn’t know what she was thinking. He thought that if he brought up what happened earlier, it would only make her more embarrassed. So, he pretended as if nothing had happened, assuming it would be better this way.
Soon, they arrived at the restaurant entrance where Eustace’s car was parked. He opened the passenger door for Danika. “Get in.”
Danika didn’t say anything and silently got in the car.
The car started quickly, and Eustace drove Danika right to her doorstep. Just as Danika’s figure was about to disappear from his sight, Eustace suddenly shouted in her direction,
“Danika! I’m serious!”
Danika didn’t turn back as she exclaimed internally, “Who cares if you’re being serious? At least I don’t!”
