Filed to story: That Campus Prince Is a Girl
Cameron said, “But I’m a girl.”
Bradley replied, “That’s even better.”
Cameron was even more shocked.
Seeing how stunned she looked, Bradley said, “Cameron, I like you for who you are. Gender doesn’t matter to me.”
Cameron was speechless. Just two months ago, Elijah had confessed his feelings to her. And now Brad did it too.
Even after Elijah told her how he felt, nothing really changed between them.
‘But what about Brad? Cameron wondered. ‘Will things be different this time?’
Seeing Cameron go quiet, Bradley came right out and asked, “So, Cameron, what do you really feel about me?”
Cameron stayed silent. After a moment, she said, “Brad, my mind’s kind of a mess right now. I can’t give you an answer.”
Bradley put another piece of food on her plate, a smile on his lips. But behind those gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes had a determined, almost domineering glint. “It’s okay. I’ll give you time.”
Cameron stayed quiet.
Bradley leaned in a little, his tone gentle but insistent. “Is three days enough for you?”
Cameron just sat there in stunned silence, not knowing what to say.
Bradley said, “Cameron, I want your answer in three days.”
Cameron blinked, finally asking, “Answer to what exactly?”
Bradley looked her in the eyes and said, “Will you be my girlfriend?”
Cameron couldn’t help but sigh.
Bradley quickly switched the topic to her company.
By the time the meal was over, Cameron finally spoke up, “Brad, could you send me your bank account number? I want to pay you back three million dollars first.”
Bradley just shook his head. “Keep the money for now. Honestly, from now on, every cent I make can stay with you.”
Cameron really didn’t know what to say.
Bradley got up to pay the bill. He turned back to Cameron and asked, “Do you want me to drive you back to school?”
Cameron shook her head. “No, I drove here myself. I’ll just head straight home.”
“Where do you live?” Bradley asked.
“On an island,” Cameron said.
“An island?” Bradley raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised.
Cameron nodded.
They exchanged a few more words before heading off in different directions.
Bradley watched Cameron’s back as she walked away, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
‘Now that Cameron’s a girl, my family won’t have any reason to object,’ Bradley thought.
By the time Bradley got back to Noble Vista, it was already past ten at night.
He sank onto the sofa, pulled out his phone, and thought about calling his mom, Beth, to tell her the news.
But at this hour, Beth was probably busy tucking Nell in.
Even though Nell was already fourteen, Beth still insisted on putting her to bed every night.
After all, Nell was the only girl in the Saunders family. Everyone doted on her, showering her with all their love.
Even if she had once made an unforgivable mistake, she was still the center of everyone’s world.
Instead of calling, Bradley sent his mom a WhatsApp message. [Mom, looks like I got it wrong. Turns out I actually like girls, not boys. So you really don’t have to worry about me anymore.]
When Beth got the message, she was indeed with Nell. As soon as she read it, she broke into a huge smile.
The weight that had been hanging over her for the past two months finally lifted.
“Mom, what’s got you so happy?” Nell asked, tilting her head in her pink pajamas.
Beth handed her the phone.
After reading the message, Nell pouted, “Mom, when did Brad learn how to lie?”
“Lie?” Beth was taken aback.
Nell looked surprised. “Mom, don’t tell me you actually fell for Bradley’s lie?”
Beth frowned. “Nell, why do you say that?”
Nell said, “Mom, just think about it. Brad was about to cut us off before. Everyone’s been putting so much pressure on him these past two months. He probably just couldn’t handle it anymore, sonow he’s saying he likes girls.”
Beth replied, “I’ll ask him myself.”
Nell shook her head. “Mom, there’s no need to ask. Bradley’s probably already got an excuse ready.”
Beth was speechless.
Nell’s words were like a bucket of cold water poured right over Beth. The joy she’d just felt disappeared in an instant-all that was left was a heavy weight in her chest.
Nell added, “Mom, so we still have to go ahead with the plan.”
Heaving a heavy sigh, Beth let out a deep breath.
Nell hugged Beth’s arm. “Mom, I know you can’t bear to do this, but we’re really doing it for Brad’s own good.”
After sending the message to Beth, Bradley immediately called Eddie.
Eddie was in class, so it took him a while to pick up. “Brad, what’s up? Don’t tell me you’re cracking under the pressure,” Eddie said.
Even though Eddie was all the way in Montelira, he knew how much pressure Bradley had been under these past two months.
“Eddie, guess what? I’ve got some awesome news for you,” Bradley said.
“Oh? What’s the good news?” Eddie asked.
“It’s about Cameron,” Bradley replied.
“Did you finally confess to him?” Eddie teased.
“Not yet,” Bradley replied.
“Then what’s the news?” Eddie asked.
“Turns out Cameron’s a girl,” Bradley said.
“What did you just say?” Eddie exclaimed.
‘Wait? Cameron’s a girl? Did I really hear that right?’ Eddie thought.
Bradley chuckled, “Yes, Cameron’s actually a girl. Shocking, right? I couldn’t believe it either.”
“Wait? Brad, what do you mean Cameron’s a girl? You’re not messing with me, are you?” Eddie asked.
Bradley laughed, “No joke, Eddie, she told me herself-straight from her own mouth.”
“So she was actually disguising herself as a boy this whole time?” Eddie asked, curiosity piqued. “But why would she do that?”
“Oh man, I totally forgot to ask,” Bradley admitted.
He’d been so stunned by the revelation that Cameron was actually a girl, the question of why she’d pretended to be a guy had completely slipped his mind.
Eddie asked, “Could it be that Cam lied to you just to be with you?”
Bradley replied, “Eddie, Cameron would never lie to me.”
Eddie was speechless. ‘Such blind trust,’ Eddie thought.’ Bradley’s fallen for her, and fallen hard!
Eddie grinned and said, “Brad, if Cameron really is a girl, I’m honestly happy for you. You don’t have to fight the family over her anymore.”
