“Is that such a trivial concern? You’ve never been this busy,” Alicia retorted.

Caden gently stroked her cheeks, peering into her eyes.

“I know Mrs. Moss came by recently. What did you discuss?”

A sudden sadness gripped Alicia, leaving her feeling vulnerable.

She didn’t conceal her feelings.

“She told me about the problems at your company. She thinks I should leave you to help save your reputation.”

Caden’s touch faltered, causing a momentary sting.

“And what’s your take on that?”

Alicia’s voice was steady, yet laden with emotion.

“Caden, do you see me as a burden?”

“If I believed that, I wouldn’t have defied Dorian for us,” Caden responded firmly.

Alicia managed a weak smile and wrapped her arms around his neck.

With a soft yet resolved tone, she replied, “I’m staying by your side, no matter the challenges, Caden.”

Caden cradled her head in his hands, their unspoken words dissolving into a kiss that sealed their bond.

His hand wandered under her shirt, softly tracing her waist.

Alicia flinched at his touch on her needle marks but masked the pain by deepening their kiss.

Caden, caught in her embrace, gasped for air.

“Why have you become so loving all of a sudden? Your kiss has gotten better. You’ve really improved your technique,” he said breathlessly.

Seizing the closeness of the moment, Alicia expressed a bold wish, saying, “Caden, I want us to have a child together.”

Caden responded by gently brushing her lips.

“Our engagement party is coming up soon, followed by the wedding after Christmas. Then, let’s start a family right away, shall we?”

Alicia gave a nod in agreement.

“I hope for a daughter.”

Caden smiled and replied, “Luck has always been on my side. I bet it’ll be a girl.”

Observing his assured expression, Alicia dreaded the devastation that bankruptcy would bring him.

Throughout her pregnancy, Alicia didn’t slow down.

She worked as hard as ever, showing no signs of fatigue.

The complications at the gallery were largely sorted out by Blake, who, after consulting with Alicia, planned to leave soon since his own business demanded his attention.

Alicia gave a distracted nod.

“Mr. Langstaff, manage it however you think best. My approval isn’t necessary.”

Blake could see her exhaustion and knew that she was preoccupied with Caden’s predicaments.

Caden had once been a leader, now heavily scrutinized, and any issue would not remain hidden for long.

Blake was already aware of some whispers.

He placed a bottle of herbal calming tonic on Alicia’s desk.

“Alicia, you’re the pillar behind Caden. It’s crucial you look after yourself.”

Alicia’s eyes welled up with tears, and she nodded her understanding.

Blake earnestly continued, “Avoid rash decisions. I suspect the Moss family might approach you. Any misstep could undermine all of Caden’s hard work.”

Alicia was surprised by Blake’s insight but managed a weak smile.

“Thank you, Mr. Langstaff. I’ll handle it.”

Once Blake departed, Alicia steeled herself and dove into her tasks.

As evening approached, Alicia called Caden.

“You promised we’d have dinner together tonight,” she reminded him gently.

“Are you wrapping up soon?”

Caden remembered his promise and had already adjusted his plans.

“I’ll go pick you up soon.”

Alicia responded with a soft acknowledgment and ended the call.

Caden was shutting his files, preparing to depart, when Hank rushed in.

“Mr. Ward, Gareth has just reached Warrington.”

He paused, catching his breath.

“He’s asking to meet with you right away.

Caden’s brow creased in thought.

He looked at his phone, its screen now dark, and said, “He’s just landed. He might be exhausted. Have him check into the hotel first. I’ll meet him in an hour.”

Hank queried, “Mr. Ward, is there an urgent matter?”

Caden responded, “Yes, there is.”.

Hank, wary of overstepping, nodded.

“I’ll go see Gareth first and update you if there are any changes.”

“Good.”

Gareth’s arrival in Warrington was critical enough to necessitate immediate confinement. Given his knowledge of sensitive information from the international offices and his eagerness for a meeting, it was clear that he had significant matters to discuss.

However, Caden prioritized his dinner with Alicia over this pressing business. He had booked their usual table at their favorite restaurant.

What was meant to be an hour was cut to forty minutes because of continuous phone calls.

Alicia was thoughtful.

“You should head out. We’re done eating anyway.”

Caden inhaled deeply.

“Stay here for a bit. I’ll arrange for the driver to come get you.”

Alicia stood to bid him farewell in silence.

The air had turned colder. The rain had been falling for days, prompting Alicia to fasten Caden’s coat tightly around him.

Caden perceived her hesitancy and concern. He caressed her hand gently, asking, “Do you miss me?”

With a laugh, Alicia looked up at him.

“We’re together all the time. Is there something to miss?”

Though she spoke lightly, their eyes locked intensely, neither willing to be the first to look away. Each moment seemed laden with significance, as though they wished to fuse together and remain so forever.

“I do miss you, Caden. How much longer will this last? When will we be out of this chaos?” Alicia asked inwardly.

With a sense of reluctance, Caden pressed her delicate hand, saying, “My uncle knew about the situation and made it to Joy Mansion last night. His support will help me relax a bit.”

Alicia inquired, “How can I support you?”

“Just keep yourself well and healthy,” Caden responded with a carefree, charming smile.

“After this is all over, I plan to spoil you rotten, keeping you in bed for days.”

Alicia playfully punched him.

“You’re not just hoping for a daughter; you’re clearly following your own desires.”

Caden didn’t argue.

“I often think back to our time in the car. It seems getting ready for a baby will need about six months if I’m to be fully ready.”

In the car, when he reached his climax, he felt he was in paradise. Such a feeling lasted for several minutes.

Alicia’s cheeks turned pink.

“You dream big.”
