After her release from prison, Venessa was covered in wounds, both visible and hidden. She silently endured them all by herself.

He was truly heartbroken.

He, along with every member of the Pierce family, intended to make it up to her.

However, why was her attitude so unyielding?

She was like a rock, tough and unyielding, impervious to any attack.

Gabe was both heartbroken and infuriated. He stomped harshly on the grass beneath him before turning around to head back inside the house.

Upon returning to Pierce Manor, Venessa tactfully avoided discussing the events of the evening.

Vera assumed she had a grand time, which, in turn, lifted her spirits.

“Vena, can I share another piece of happy news with you?”

“Go ahead, Grandma.”

“Your mom has chosen a promising partner for you, and I must say… I find him quite impressive. So, I’d like you to meet him tomorrow.”

Venessa frowned. Harriet chose a partner for me?

Recalling the warning that day at the hospital, she reckoned this so-called mother of hers couldn’t wait for her to get married off immediately.

That way, she wouldn’t be competing with Madison for a man, right?

Observing her grandmother’s elated demeanor, Venessa didn’t have the heart to refuse.

“All right. I agree to go on this blind date. Tell me the location tomorrow, and I’ll be there.”

“Let me introduce you to this man…”

Venessa was feeling unwell and just wanted to rest, so she interrupted, saying, “As long as you think he’s good, then he must be excellent, Grandma. I trust your judgment completely.”

“All right. All right. You look really tired. So, get some rest early. Tomorrow, you need to be fully energized for the blind date.”

“Goodnight, Grandma.”

The following day, the driver dropped off Venessa at the location for her blind date.

It was a Corvainan restaurant.

Upon reaching the designated location, Venessa caught sight of a familiar face.

She expressed her surprise. “Layla… why are you here?”

Indeed, it was Layla, the second daughter of the Lorimer family, whom she had met just a couple of days ago.

“Didn’t your mom and grandma tell you? The person you were set up with today is my older brother!”

Layla pointed to the seat across from her with a smile. “Go ahead and sit down. Have a look at what you’d like to eat, and then we can order.”

Only then did Venessa shift her gaze to the man standing next to Layla.

Layla’s brother was strikingly handsome, seemingly in his early thirties. He was clad in a loose, lightweight sweater, his eyes sharp and charming. His features were perfectly sculpted, making him appear as if he had just stepped out of a fantasy novel.

Venessa wasn’t one to be swayed by looks, but the striking attractiveness of the individual before her indeed caught her attention, causing her to take a few more glances before she finally took a seat.

“Hello, Ms. Pierce. My name is Jeremiah Lorimer,” the man introduced himself, politely extending his hand.

His thick eyebrows lifted upward, his handsome face was frosty, and his expression carried an untamed defiance.

Unlike Cole’s gentle and somewhat subdued demeanor, Jeremiah exuded an air of superiority, reminiscent of a high and mighty scion.

Venessa looked at his hand and slender fingers. Feeling somewhat humble, she extended her gloved hand toward his, forming a gentle handshake.

“Hello.”

“The heater in here is on. You can take off your gloves,” Jeremiah suggested, a mischievous smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he looked at her.

“It’s not very convenient.” Venessa changed the subject. “You guys go ahead and order. I don’t have any dietary restrictions.”

“Let me order, then. You guys carry on with your chat,” Layla said, taking the menu with a smile.

Venessa lifted her gaze, meeting Jeremiah’s dark eyes.

He was looking at her with a half-smile, giving her the sensation of being electrified.

The atmosphere became somewhat awkward for a moment.

In a rush, Venessa averted her gaze, taking a sip of her coffee before turning her gaze toward the window.

Last night, she wasn’t feeling well, so she didn’t listen to her grandmother’s introduction of a potential match for her.

She would have never imagined that the man she was set up with for a blind date turned out to be Layla’s brother, Jeremiah.

In reality, she had met Jeremiah when they were children. However, their encounters were not frequent.

As the illegitimate son of the Lorimer family, Jeremiah, who was also Layla’s biological brother, had lived in obscurity since his childhood.

In her memory, he was always scrawny, seeming malnourished. People always say that girls change a lot when they grow up, but boys do too. Now, he has transformed into such a strikingly handsome figure!

By now, he must have been accepted by the Lorimer family, especially considering his sister, Layla, married an oil tycoon. As per the tradition, a wife shares her husband’s status. Hence, he’d officially move into Lorimer Estate.

Truth be told, no matter his illegitimate status, Jeremiah is, after all, a scion bearing the Lorimer family’s bloodline.

Given the Lorimer family’s status as the most prestigious family in Jexburgh, Jeremiah holds a position of significant influence and authority.

I initially thought that Harriet would carelessly pair me off with just anyone. Why, then, is she introducing me to the esteemed son of the Lorimer family?

Venessa was well aware of her own circumstances.

In the past, she was nothing more than a fake heiress of the Pierce family, and she had even spent four years in prison.

She was just an ordinary ex-convict with a criminal record.

It was unimaginable for her to be having a meal with the son of the Lorimer family, let alone having a blind date with him.
