I approached Nicole’s body. Her eyes, which always looked at me contemptuously, widened in despair. She was bleeding from the corner of her mouth, her limbs stiff as a skinned snake, impaled on the wall by an arrow without moving.

“Your Highness,” Alen said, examining the silver arrow. He drew out the weapon that had been thrust into the flesh and looked at it carefully, “It should be made of silver. The throat is not the fatal part of a werewolf. The heart is the most vulnerable place. But with a tool made of pure silver, it would be enough to kill any werewolf in a split second and make sure she never spoke again.”

Callum stared at the arrow in silence. A moment later, Bud returns. He got down on one knee, bowed his head and said to Callum, “Your Highness, I’m sorry, I. . . I didn’t catch the man who shot the arrow.”

“I see,” Callum said, patting Bud on the shoulder. “Never mind. I guess a fox can’t hide its tail.”

He looked into the darkness. The candles on the wall were burning quietly, and the shadows on the ground were shaking feebly in the heavy darkness. The corners of Callum’s mouth curled up, his sharp eyes staring off into nowhere, and his low laugh came from the darkness.

“Things are getting interesting. Someone can’t wait.”

Nicole’s POV

The first memory of my life was when I asked my mother where my father was.

“Why don’t I have a father?” I don’t know why I said that, but I asked the question anyway.

At that time, my beautiful mother was lying naked on a strange man. She held a cigarette between her slender fingers. Her red lips parted slightly, and she let out a beautiful ring of smoke.

Her moist eyes brushed across my face, as if caught in a memory, and then she smiled and said. “Your father was a coward.”

“What’s a coward?”

“A coward is someone who does something and is afraid to admit it.”

“What do you mean?” I was too young to know what my mother meant.

“You’ll see.”

My mother’s face faded into the smoke. Her body stretched out on the bed like a flower in full bloom.

The next memory is that I was sent to a castle by my mother. It was a beautiful place, and I wasn’t surprised when my mother walked out the door with another strange man on her arm. She was always going to be around men, but this time she forgot to bring me.

I was held in the arms of a man who claimed to be my father. His face was not handsome, but his eyes were powerful. He put me in a room with a servant watching over me.

Father doesn’t come often. He often looks at my face with a frown. I proudly lifted my face to show him. Many people had said that I looked exactly like my mother.

The attitude of the people around me depends entirely on my father. When he came to visit me, all the servants were kind and friendly to me, but as soon as he left, they treated me like a stray animal. I’ve heard them call me a b.astard in private.

A b.astard? I knew it was a bad word, of course, but I didn’t mind. My mother had told me to ignore the thoughts of people as powerless as ants. In my eyes, a servant is an ant.

But as my father came to see me less and less, the servants treated me worse and worse. I was alone in my little house, watching the sky through the narrow windows. I stood on my feet and looked at the sky. I learned to divide a meal into three meals and pretend I was full. I learned to measure the length and width of a small room with my feet. The room is 32 steps long and 19 steps wide. I learned to step on a stool and watch the little girl running in the courtyard rush into the arms of a beautiful and pale woman. She looks about my age. She smiled happily, and then she was lifted on my father’s shoulder with a smile.

I tasted anger for the first time.

“What a fool Alpha is. He trusted that woman.”

“You’re right. I don’t think the b.astard is Alpha’s child at all. Luna’s child is Alpha’s blood.”

“She’s so sullen all day. Her eyes are so uncomfortable!”

“Look at that bastard. She’s staring at us by the door.”

“What are you looking at? Go back to your kennel.”

I have forgotten the look of the maid who scolded me. She is just a lowly Omega. She doesn’t deserve to be remembered. But I chewed my anger, and I said to myself, if I’m already stuck in ants, I’m going to have to step on those ants that are in my way.

It was a cloudy afternoon and my father didn’t show up. The girl and her mother reappeared on the lawn, and while the girl played, I avoided the servants who were watching me, and pretended to bump into the beautiful pale woman.

“Who are you?” She took me in her arms and asked softly, like a gentle wind.

I lifted my face so she could see my face. I looked at her weak and shocked expression with satisfaction. I pushed her with all my strength. Perhaps not expecting my actions, she was even pushed to the ground by me. Her gentle eyes were like broken glass. She looked at me, then shed a line of crystal tears.

“Mom!” A child’s voice came from far away.

I ran back to my room before the little girl could see me. I stood in the corner and saw the little girl crying and looking at the woman on the floor.

After that day, the woman disappeared. I watched the girl’s every move. I used to sneak up on her, befriend her, know all her secrets. On the day I turned 10, I shifted successfully. My father was so surprised that he took me home. I finally live in the same big house as that girl called Jane. I started taking away things she liked, and the love of our father, and her rights as an Alpha daughter.

The Moon Goddess is fair. I shifted ahead of time, and she was a waste that was weaker than a human being.

I was loved by everyone. I was well known in social circles as Alpha’s only daughter.

That Jane, she has her mother’s eyes. They were so naive and fragile that I wanted to destroy them.

After knowing that she could not transform, she lost her last hope completely. In those days I felt a satisfaction in looking at her pain. Everyone was driven to isolate her by my suggestion. Only I know her pure soul, beautiful eyes and noble blood.

But so what?

Taste the pain, Jane! I think about it every day. I need your tears to soothe my anger, my shame and my unwillingness.

Although my mother was only a mistress and abandoned me, I am the daughter of Alpha now. I want to enjoy the best jewelry, marry the most noble man, let all kneel in front of me.

I almost succeeded, if it wasn’t for that man.

I’ve met a lot of men who are obsessed with my beauty, but Callum is different. I can smell a special nobility in him. He was born with all the things a man could ask for his whole life. As the only prince, his name represents power, money and status.

Who wouldn’t want to marry a prince like him?

I need him and only he can satisfy my desire. I fell madly in love with him, but all he could see was Jane. Why? Is her cowardly character and shallow knowledge worthy of a prince? I’m the only one who’s right for Callum.

Why? Didn’t Callum say he was gonna marry me? Why is he walking towards Jane? Jealousy burns like a fire in my heart, and it hurts like hell.

The wine-soaked dress at the party made me lose my mind. But that’s okay. I told myself I could always get whatever I wanted, just like I did when I was a kid. I swear I’m gonna get Callum back. But I failed.

His Highness Callum’s gaze was like a clear river, but beneath it lay countless swords, gleaming with a threatening cold light.

S.hit! Even if I don’t get the Prince, I can’t let Jane become Queen in the future.

God d.amn it!

Jane’s POV

The steam was rising around me. The bathroom window was open, and the white moon hung in the dark blue sky, shining like pearls on velvet cloth.

I stared at the sky, lying in the bathroom tub, thinking about the day’s events.

What elder William said about royal discipline, about loyalty to mate, reminded me of His Royal Highness Callum. He was so noble and cold. I remembered how he interrogated Nicole this afternoon. Had it not been for the sharp arrow, everything would have been under his control. Nicole was supposed to be able to tell the secret under Callum’s guidance.

Nothing seems to escape Callum’s grasp. He is always in control of the development and outcome of everything. He tortured Nicole’s body for a week, then used the witch’s potion to break her, and finally used her weakness to drive her to her death.

He laughed in the dark. Even now in the warm tub, it still gives me chills.

I shook my head, trying to shake off my memory of him. I hugged my shoulders and sank into the water. The warm water waves came towards me and enveloped me completely. There was a layer of water pressure on my eardrums, and the whole world was shut off by the water. It was so quiet.
