Lucy still couldn’t figure it out. “Then what does he want to talk to Quinn about?”
Veronica smiled. “Maybe they’re just… chatting.”
“What? Julian? Chatting with someone?”
“Not with most people,” Veronica said. “But maybe with Quinn.”
“Why?”
Veronica tugged lightly on her hair. “Silly girl. You’ll understand someday.”
Lucy was almost losing her mind. “Veronica, just tell me already!”
“Some things are easier to understand than explain,” Veronica said. “Just remember this. Julian doesn’t bully women.”
“Fine.”
If you won’t tell me, I’ll just ask Quinn later.
After waiting a while, Veronica finally led Lucy into the room. Julian had just finished adding Quinn and was putting his phone away.
Lucy sat down immediately. “So what were you two talking about?”
Julian said calmly, “I asked her for a thank-you gift.”
Lucy’s eyes widened. “What kind of gift?”
Julian glanced at Quinn.
Quinn quickly explained, “Mr. Sterling helped me out earlier. To thank him, I’m designing and making him a custom outfit.”
“Oh!” Lucy finally relaxed. “I’m telling you, Quinn designs amazing clothes!”
Veronica spoke up from the side. “Quinn, we’re all friends now. Calling him Mr. Sterling sounds way too formal.”
“Yeah,” Lucy said. “Quinn, what should you call him then?”
Julian narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze lingering on Quinn’s face for a few seconds.
His voice was calm, cool as always. “That depends on whether her memory has improved.”
Lucy frowned. “What does that mean?”
Veronica looked confused too. But Quinn understood immediately.
The last time they ran into each other on the yacht, she had called him Mr. Sterling. He had told her she had a terrible memory and that next time she should remember to call him Seven.
But after everything that had happened since then, how could she possibly say that name out loud so easily?
Still, after their conversation just now, Quinn felt much lighter.
Julian asking for a thank-you gift actually felt like a relief.
She truly was grateful to him.
But when she thought about everything Julian had done, something about it still made her feel awkward.
If giving him a gift meant they no longer owed each other anything, Quinn was more than willing to do it.
As for what she called him, it was just a name. Saying it wouldn’t cost her anything.
She spoke quickly, “Seven.”
Lucy laughed. “So you two already had that figured out. I call him Seven sometimes too. Quinn copying me works perfectly.”
Now the contact had been added, the thank-you gift settled, and the guard Quinn had been carrying seemed to finally come down.
Julian stood up, picked up the coat beside him, and said, “You two enjoy dinner. I’ve got something to take care of.”
He put on his coat and walked out.
His tall figure was straight and steady. Quinn watched him leave before pulling her gaze away.
If he ever wore one of my designs, it would probably suit him really well…
With that build, he would make the perfect model.
“Quinn?”
Lucy’s voice snapped her back to reality.
Quinn felt her face heat up. “What’s wrong?”
Lucy stared at her with concern. “Be honest with me. Seven didn’t bully you, right? If he did, I swear I’ll go after him.”
“No, of course not.” Quinn shook her head quickly. “Mr. Ster… Seven is a very decent person. He would never bully a woman.”
Veronica spoke up. “Quinn, after today’s dinner, can we put everything from before behind us? From now on, if you ever need help, you can come to me. And I hope you’ll trust me the same way you trust Lucy.”
Quinn looked embarrassed. “Veronica, I never meant to doubt you. I was just angry at the time, and since you’re family with them, I figured you had to stay neutral.”
“I understand.” Veronica lifted her cup. “Come on. Let’s just put the past behind us. We’re friends now.”
After dinner, Lucy dragged Quinn out shopping.
While they were looking at throw pillows, a sudden image flashed through Quinn’s mind.
Seeing her stare blankly, Lucy asked, “What’s wrong? You don’t like this one?”
In her hands was a fluffy white lamb pillow, square-shaped with two tiny horns on top and little dangling legs underneath.
It is adorable.
Suddenly Quinn remembered something.
The last time Julian had come to Lucy’s place, she had thrown something at him.
It had been a lamb pillow. Afterward Lucy said the pillow had gone missing.
Could it be… But that was impossible.
Someone like Julian wouldn’t quietly take a random pillow from Lucy’s apartment.
Shaking off the strange thought, Quinn smiled. “It’s cute. Let’s get this one.”
After they returned home, Lucy still had work to finish. Quinn lay across the coffee table, already thinking about designing Julian’s outfit.
Her phone rang.
She glanced at the screen. Chase.
She didn’t want to answer, but their divorce still wasn’t finalized. She picked up the call and turned on speaker.
“Unless it’s about the divorce, I don’t want to talk.”
Chase said, “That’s exactly what I want to talk about.”
“Fine. Go ahead.”
“It’s not something we can sort out over the phone,” he said. “Come home. Let’s talk face to face.”
Quinn didn’t think much about it. The fact that he was finally willing to discuss divorce was already surprising.
After telling Lucy where she was going, she headed back. What she didn’t know was just how shameless Chase was about to be.
Since marrying Chase, they had always slept in separate rooms.
The apartment had been bought by the Sterling family.
The place was over two thousand square feet, with three bedrooms, a home office, and a study. Quinn had lived there for three years, yet it had never felt like home.
She had wasted three years of her youth on Chase.
Thinking about it now, the whole thing felt pathetic and ridiculous.
All she wanted was to finalize the divorce as soon as possible, leave this terrible man behind, and start a new life.
When she arrived, Quinn didn’t open the door herself.
Ever since she saw Chase for who he really was, she no longer considered this place her home.
She knocked.
A moment later, the door opened.
Chase frowned when he saw her. “You haven’t been back in days. What happened? Forget the passcode? Your fingerprint suddenly stop working?”
Quinn said calmly, “This place belongs to you. After the divorce, it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to walk in like I still live here.”
Chase frowned even deeper and stepped aside. “Just come in.”
Once inside, Quinn got straight to the point.
“Have you made up your mind about the divorce? When are we going to file the paperwork?”
Chase grabbed a drink from the fridge and set it in front of her.
“Why the rush?” he said. “We’ve been married three years. You’re really that eager to get rid of me?”
As he spoke, he moved to sit beside her.
