“Let’s go,” Lukas grumbled and stood up.

…..

“Wait!” Rhea said and reached out, grabbing his hand.

Lukas looked down at the hand that she was holding and Rhea noticed that as well, a blush coating her cheeks. She tried to withdraw her grip but Lukas surprisingly tightened it causing her eyes to widen.

Rhea glanced up at him with a questioning look but Lukas didn’t say anything and simply tugged up to her feet gently. She watched as Lukas then properly intertwined their fingers together and lead her in the direction of the door.

All the while they walked, Rhea’s gaze never left their intertwined hands. What is going on here? Why was her heart pounding so hard? Blood was rushing to her head and it was making her almost dizzy. This was probably nothing. Lukas probably just felt like holding hands with her, right?

Rhea didn’t dare to conclude. Or maybe, she was just afraid of admitting it.

Their car was packed outside and Lukas first helped her get in and she was expecting him to come in but he didn’t.

Rhea saw him gesture to the soldier from earlier who went to him and watched in curiosity as Lukas tipped his head in direction of the surveillance camera at the entrance of the café and whispered something in his ear before the soldier nodded in understanding and went in.

Lukas joined her and Luca started the car? The soldier wasn’t joining them? Something was going on.

“Is something wrong?” Rhea asked him. She just has this feeling that Lukas was up to something again. Nothing he ever does is small, he was not telling her something.

“Huh? Is something wrong?” He pretended not to know what she was talking about. Here, that attitude was going to be a problem for them in the future.

What future by the way? She must be thinking nonsense.

Rhea pointed to the empty seat at the front,” He’s not joining us?”

“Oh, him?” Lukas smiled at her innocently, “I asked him to get us more of that delicious cake you ate earlier,”.

Nice excuse but Rhea was not buying that. There was no way that she was mistaken, she had really seen him signal to that surveillance camera.

“Really Lukas?” Rhea’s tone was deep and her brows were arched in such a way that demanded he doesn’t play her for a fool.

“Fine,” Lukas breathed, unable to keep the truth from her anymore.

Rhea wrapped her arms across her chest and readjusted in her seat. She wanted all of the truth right now.

“He’s there to erase evidence of our time together,”

“What?!” Rhea couldn’t understand the need for that and Lukas was quick to explain.

“I have many enemies, Rhea. They can’t find you else you might never have that freedom you desire when you get it at last.” He said.

Rhea’s eyes widened, those words playing in a loop in her mind. She might never have that freedom she desires when she gets it at last? Does that mean that there were chances he might release her in the future? Rhea was elevated inside.

But then, Lukas was quite considerate. He was thinking of her safety.

She grinned at him, “Does that mean that he’s still getting the cake?”

“Definitely,” Lukas grinned back at her and he looked incredibly handsome at that moment.

Damn it, Rhea drew her gaze away immediately. At this rate, she might really die from a heart attack because her heart wouldn’t stop beating fast. Thankfully, Lukas was not close enough to hear it.

They drove in silence, the air incredibly tense. With what happened today, it was obvious that there was a great shift in their relationship. They might have fought but their reconciliation this time brought them a whole lot closer than before.

When they reached the base, Rhea was the first to step out and wanted to leave for her prison, no, room – just today, she’d think of it as that – when she turned to Lukas, saying, “Thank you for today,”

“It was nothing but you’re welcome,” He said to her.

Rhea knew she had the right to be outside but right now, she was a captive and yet he let her out. She had to be content with that. For now.

She turned, about to leave, when Lukas suddenly said, “You said you can take up that mission,”

Rhea halted in her steps, her mind trying to sink in what she just heard.

Oh, definitely.

She turned to him, saying confidently, “I can do it,”

“I’ll let you do it then,”

Rhea was about to rejoice when he added, “Only on one condition,”

Her face changed, “What is it?” Rhea had a feeling that it wasn’t going to be as easy as she thought.

“You fight me,”

“What?!”

Let The Fight Begin

“What?!” Rhea gave Lukas a stupid look. Was he kidding her right now? She couldn’t possibly fight against him and win? He was five times stronger than her and knew all those fighting skills and stuff like that. It was a losing battle, only a fool would agree to it. Rhea might be headstrong but she knew how to give up.

“I can’t do it,” She confessed, “I can’t possibly win against you. That is it, you must be taunting me right now,” Rhea glared at him for making a fool of her.

“You don’t have to fight me that way and all I would do is to play the defensive. In one word, if you can hit me thrice in five minutes, you win. How does that sound? Interesting, right?” Lukas threw the bait.

Rhea tipped her head to the side contemplatively. This was a good deal. She wasn’t confident at defeating Lukas in a face-to-face confrontation, however, stealing punches? She can do that.

“You have to think about it as well?” Lukas goaded her, “It seems you were not prepared in the first place,”

“No, I’ll do it!” Rhea gave in immediately, “I’m going to fight you and I will win!”

“Good,” Lukas smiled at her, “I like your confidence because it would fall the hardest when I defeat you woefully. Our fight begins in an hour, get yourself prepared,” He announced out of nowhere.

“What?!” Rhea shouted. It was so sudden. She hasn’t even gotten herself prepared, “Don’t you think you’re going too quick? One moment you’re telling me about the fight, and the next we’re fighting in an hour. I’m still trying to digest the information, Lukas,” She hoped he had a change of heart.

But instead, Lukas walked over to her till he was standing directly in front of her and said, “A good soldier is prepared at all times. If you’re going to break into my father’s place, you have to be quick in thinking in case there are changes to the plans. And now, I’m running out of time, so we start immediately. Get your ass ready, Rhea. ” was all Lukas said and left her standing there as he went in.
